From another thread on Jane Fonda. How would you rate Barbra’s looks as a movie star?

She's always had a certain amount of beauty.

In r1's pic she looks like Jennifer Lawrence.

by Anonymousreply 6September 21, 2020 8:39 PM

Her face is prettier and more interesting than brittle-looking Jane Fonda. There is nothing interesting about Fonda's looks.

by Anonymousreply 7September 21, 2020 8:59 PM

Fonda is much more charismatic.

by Anonymousreply 8September 21, 2020 9:11 PM

Jane was really pretty and a sex symbol. Good luck casting Barbara in Barbarella, unless it was a complete joke.

Streisand has always been fug and then gussied it up with costumes and makeup. Without her singing voice, she would never have made it.

Streisand was a sex symbol in the 1970's. Nude stills of outtakes from Owl and the Pussycat were supposed to be published in High Society magazine, but Streisand put a stop to them. Rumors surfaced that she had done a porno at the start of her career, which proved to be false. Playboy had her pose for the cover based on the sensational reaction that her Superman poster had received (It was a pin up favorite). Larry Flynt asked her to pose for Hustler magazine.

Occasionally the Jews who run Hollywood and love wasp beauty try and see if they can slip one of their less attractive own in the mix.

R11 = the Streisand was a sex symbol troll. NO, she was never remotely a sex symbol, you nitwit. There were topless pics from Owl and the Pussycat outtakes published in High Society, I got a copy at a newsstand in Times Square out of curiosity. Streisand filed a lawsuit and the vendors were required to rip out the pages from the remaining copies (there were plenty) and cross her name off the cover. The reason it was a big deal was because Babs was still a hot star in 1978 - NOT because she was hot.

I'll say that Streisand always photographed well. Pretty, no. A "sex symbol," NO.

by Anonymousreply 15September 21, 2020 10:01 PM

As a little English girl I thought she was absolutely beautiful. I also adored Elizabeth Taylor, so I just think I hadn't been brainwashed by what should or shouldn't be considered beautiful yet.

She had (and has) very striking Jewish features that just don't fit the Hollywood stereotype. That doesn't make her ugly.

"Playboy had her pose for the cover based on the sensational reaction that her Superman poster had received (It was a pin up favorite)"

What planet are you living on? There was no Superman poster, there was a Superman album. And if there was a poster, only gay men would have bought it. There was so "sensational reaction" to Streisand dressed in a Superman T-shit. She was on the cover of Playboy because she'd done one of their 100 pg Q&A interviews. Streisand could have posed in a bunny outfit with her B-cups pushed up, but SHE chose the T-shirt because it kept inline with her feminist attitude at the time (1977), she said. . Larry Flynt would have asked Lassie to pose for Hustler.

Why make up this bullshit? Barbra Streisand was highly successful, considered one of the greatest pop singers and came up with two or three pretty good acting roles. She's nice looking in her own way on screen. There's no reason to make up stuff to fulfill your other fantasies.

by Anonymousreply 19September 21, 2020 10:13 PM

Oy veh!

by Anonymousreply 20September 21, 2020 10:13 PM

In those Superman photos she looks like a scrawny Big Bird. Barbara wins for the most deluded and vainglorious star EVER

I can't find that Jane Fonda - Streisand thread. Can someone please post the link? Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 22September 21, 2020 11:15 PM

Sexy: at times, yes.

Appealing: Yes.

Pretty: never.

by Anonymousreply 23September 21, 2020 11:19 PM

Avigdor! WAIT!

by Anonymousreply 24September 21, 2020 11:39 PM

Jane Fonda is pretty in a generic way. No outstanding or unique facial features that qualify her as a beauty in her prime. She was beautiful when made up and dressed up in the styles of that time. But makeup free there were truer beauties of her generation. Jacqueline Bisset and Ali MacGraw comes to mind.

Barbra was never considered pretty nor a sex symbol for the masses. But she did have her fans who did lust after her, including a young Prince Charles. Barbra’s appeal wasn’t in looks but in her talent, her talent being so big that it made her look beautiful. Kind of like that so-so looking guy who’s funny and has a great personality, he goes from a 6 to an 8. Barbra was like that.

by Anonymousreply 25September 21, 2020 11:40 PM

She's ugly and nasty inside and out!

by Anonymousreply 26September 21, 2020 11:54 PM

My father-in-law thought she was the sexist woman ever. She is kind of sexy. Not pretty though

by Anonymousreply 27September 22, 2020 12:12 AM

A photograph of her altered as if she'd had a nose job. The difference is stunning.

Not really a beauty, but she has a very interesting face that can be very striking. Unfortunately her personal style is really pretty awful and she sabotages her looks,

by Anonymousreply 29September 22, 2020 1:55 AM

She has a certain... [italic]unrestricted[/italic] beauty.

by Anonymousreply 30September 22, 2020 2:16 AM

"But she did have her fans who did lust after her"

99% of those fans were gay men

"Barbra’s appeal wasn’t in looks but in her talent, her talent being so big that it made her look beautiful"

Only to the blind, or to her mother

by Anonymousreply 31September 22, 2020 1:13 PM

Lainie Kazan is posting all over this thread.

Give it up dear. Barbra is a beloved, sexy star.

by Anonymousreply 32September 22, 2020 10:09 PM

Big difference: Lainie Kazan is a nice person

by Anonymousreply 33September 23, 2020 1:22 PM

R5, I always thought Jennifer Lawrence looked like a dead-eyed, trashy version of Barbra Streisand.

by Anonymousreply 34September 23, 2020 1:26 PM

Why don’t all of you post your pictures and we’ll rate all of you?

by Anonymousreply 35September 23, 2020 1:27 PM

Hi Barbra/r35! What’s new in your mall?

by Anonymousreply 36September 23, 2020 2:03 PM

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was prettier

Streisand was encouraged to get a nose job but refused because she thought it might affect her singing voice. Marlon Brando admired her because she didn't change her name or try to alter her looks through plastic surgery but rather kept her unique Jewish look and name.

She was one of the most photogenic human beings who ever lived. And I always find it hilarious when a woman who managed to snare Omar Sharif, Ryan O'Neal, Kris Kristofferson, Don Johnson, and Andre Agassi is claimed to be neither "pretty" nor "sexy."

by Anonymousreply 39September 23, 2020 3:06 PM

If she was so photogenic, r39, she wouldn't have a "good" side and a "bad" side.

by Anonymousreply 40September 23, 2020 3:15 PM

Oh puhleeze, r38, she dropped an A and Streisand doesn't exactly sound like Manischewitz.

by Anonymousreply 41September 23, 2020 3:17 PM

'"And I always find it hilarious when a woman who managed to snare Omar Sharif, Ryan O'Neal, Kris Kristofferson, Don Johnson, and Andre Agassi is claimed to be neither "pretty" nor "sexy."'

SNARE, R39? Ha ha. Streisand could "snare" those guys - very briefly - because she was a big star and had big money. People are attracted to money and fame. If Barbra stayed in Brooklyn as a typist named Barbara, none of those men would have given her the time of day. She's be stuck with a Jewish schlub like Elliott Gould for life.

by Anonymousreply 42September 23, 2020 10:54 PM

You missed striking. And that's a crappy photo, OP.
