I think perfectly cast roles mean those performances were so fantastic and unique that you can’t think of any actor past or present doing justice. It shouldn’t just be a wonderful performance, it’s something beyond that.
So in that regard, I’d have to say John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever comes to mind. He gave that character depth beyond what was written in the script and of course the charisma, the look, the dancing. Can’t think of any actor then or now who could have made the role work without Tony coming off as an unsympathetic moron.
Another one that comes to mind is Angelina Jolie in Gia.

Surprisingly, Brando was first choice only of the novel's author, Mario Puzo. Coppola and Paramount also seriously considered Ernest Borgnine, Edward G. Robinson, Orson Welles, Danny Thomas (!), Richard Conte, Laurence Olivier, Anthony Quinn, and George C. Scott. Burt Lancaster wanted the part badly but was never in the running. In the end, it was between Borgnine and Brando.

It might interest you to know, OP, that Brando was a very unpopular choice for The Godfather no natter what Mario Puzo supposedly said (it was based on his best selling book). Brando was a has been, an impossible to work with box office poison drunk. Lee J Cobb was a name I read thrown around at the time. The movie briefly revived Brando's career. And it was brief. It did, however, reinvent the idea that Brando was one of the greats, which he had previously squandered with self indulgence in the prior decade.

Audrey Hepburn is charming in the film, but she wasn't plausibly whorish enough to be perfect as Holly Golightly. Ca[pote was right: the perfect woman for the role would have been Marilyn (had she been up to it).

R226, the Holly of the novella was soigné, not whorish, asking men for powder room change and knowing all about horses and golf. People were shocked that she had made herself over from a backwoods orphan, which she began by studying Vogue. Doesn't sound like MM at all.

To focus more narrowly on actors whose work doesn't on whole impress me...
Tobey Maguire and Katie Holmes in two fairly perfect films, The Ice Storm and Wonder Boys. And I'll add that Michael Douglas, usually somewhere between okay and perfectly adequate, was perfect in Wonder Boys.

Patricia Neal in The Fountainhead. If anybody could bring to something approaching life the cardboard characters of Ayn Rand, it was her.
