However, the tribunal made clear that “gender is a spectrum” and that it is is “beyond any doubt” the protections apply to people with diverse gender identity or expression.
Non-binary and gender fluid people protected under the Equality Act after landmark ruling against Jaguar Land Rover

However people "identify" and express themselves, they should have workplace protections. That doesn't mean they can impose their gender ideology on the rest of us. Biological sex is real.
I haven't read this ruling, but I always take anything published in the Pink News with a huge pinch of salt.

Gender is literally not on a spectrum. But someone’s sense of it can be.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 17, 2020 2:17 PM |
Gender non-conforming is a far more sensible, logical label (for those who need labels) than the "non-binary, gender fluid" nonsense.

Sure they can. You sound like homophobes who say, “Don’t shove you’re lifestyle down our throats.”
These people now have protection and saying differently comes with a jail sentence under the law. Hate speech is not prohibited in Europe.

Immutable benign traits and behavior are very different things. A company can have bona fide reasons to control behavior, grooming, or clothing for its employees when they are on the clock. It may not be suitable for a customer facing employee to come to work in full drag, for example.

"These people now have protection and saying differently comes with a jail sentence under the law."
So, if a woman says that she believes women's oppression is based on sex-- not "gender"-- you would be fine with her being sentenced to jail time for that? Really? Because these are the type of statements that are now considered "transphobic," according to idiots like George Takei, who recently compared J.K. Rowling to-- yes-- Donald Trump, and was ratio-ed to hell for it.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 17, 2020 2:40 PM |
No r7 - they cannot impose their gender theories on us, demand we define ourselves as cis or call us transphobic for being attracted to our own sex, not our "gender identity". They cannot impose their denial of biological sex on us.
Gay people don't tell straights that they have to be gay. Demanding we adopt their gender identity ideology is the equivalent of gays demanding that straights are gay. Biological sex is real.
Stop trying to equate the belief that gender identity theory is just a theory with firing people from their jobs for being trans or "gender fluid". Unfortunately, we are in a world where saying biological sex is real can get you fired - and you no doubt agree with that.

Of course that would never happen here in the USA because you can’t be jailed for merely holding and expressing a contrary opinion. Yes, everyone is entitled to a workplace free from discrimination, but aside from that setting, a person may freely express their opinion without facing the prospect of jail time.

R12, 99% of British society believes that biological sex is real, that transwomen are not actually women and that only women menstruate. There is practically zero support for gender self-id, bio men in women's sports or people with penises in women's loos. Lol at you thinking we're social pariahs for saying those things.
The psych trans cultist hasn't won anything, r14. The Forstater ruling will eventually be challenged. I can't wait until the trans cult starts trying to dictate to straight men that they have to be open to dating transwomen otherwise they're transphobic.

The BBC have reported it.
Looks like a standard bullying and workplace harassment case, muddied by the employee being what most people consider to be trans but not thinking of themselves as trans, despite being a Ms and referring to her as she/her.
Having worked there for 20 years I can understand if women would feel uncomfortable sharing toilet facilities with someone they’ve known as Graham for 17 years who is now called Susan-Claire.
Interestingly the trans woman who was suspended from the National Union of Students for taking photos of her penis at her office desk and sharing them online has not taken her employees to a tribunal yet. Can’t think why.

Yes r18, it's basic workplace harassment for gender reassignment brought under the Equality Act. Despite the Pink News' claims about the tribunal recognising a "gender spectrum", the ruling itself simply says "The claimant has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment" and there is no use of the words "spectrum", "non-binary" or "gender fluid" in the ruling. The tribunal also referred to the claimant (a bio male) as "Ms" and "she". Seems like they ignored all the "gender fluid" stuff and regarded the claimant as having undergone gender reassignment.

The more such cases arise, the more the issues of how women are suddenly supposed to start considering Graham as one of them is going to arise.

And sex remains a protected characteristic under the Equality Act, which is why so many trans rights activists and misogynists want it removed and replaced with gender identity.

It essentially says they have the same protections that any other human being has. It doesn't say anyone has to honor their personal belief of what they are or aren't. There are men, and there are women. Simple.

R10 in fairness your comment really exposes the holes in your own logic:
“ No [R7] - they cannot impose their gender theories on us, demand we define ourselves as cis or call us transphobic for being attracted to our own sex, not our "gender identity". They cannot impose their denial of biological sex on us.
Gay people don't tell straights that they have to be gay. Demanding we adopt their gender identity ideology is the equivalent of gays demanding that straights are gay. Biological sex is real.”
Gay people demanded that straight people accept that different sexualities or sexual expressions existed. Demanded that they accept this as a self evident truth, but didn’t demand that straight people become gay. Also on the cis “I hate the word cis it’s a slur” troll point, there was similar historical hysterics around “heterosexual”. Trans people are similarly demanding that cis people recognize that trans exists as a gender - also as self evident truth. Also I don’t think anyone is denying that biological sex exists but every scientist will tell you that it is not binary in that many variations on your standard XX / XY binary exist in real life. And there is a distinction drawn between gender and sex - how many times must we go through this lol.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 2, 2020 6:18 PM |
[quote]Also I don’t think anyone is denying that biological sex exists
Oh come on.
Loads of trans activists are saying that biological sex can be changed. Mara Wilson thinks changing your hair colour is proof you can change biological sex. Margaret Attwood cites a certain type of fish that can change sex. Campaigners to abolish women's sports categories say there's no physical difference between sexes.
One Scottish Nationalist Party MP (not the one who took a 500 mile train journey knowing she had Coronavirus) tweeted that transwomen are biologically female.

You just made that up and that's not what the YouGov poll from last year found. My figures are in the link. Where did you get the 99% figure from?

R29 I’m confused by the train journey comment significance? Are you trying to cast doubt on the veracity of SNP members comments, therefore removing the force of your own comment? How heavy handed. Without sources or quotes your other comments are not to be taken seriously sorry.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 2, 2020 6:34 PM |
What that poll also shows is
46% think trans women should be allowed to use women's toilets, with 30% saying they should not be allowed
32% think trans women WHO HAVE NOT HAD BOTTOM SURGERY should be allowed to use women's toilets with 41% opposed.
So there's a sizeable chunk of people who change their mind when the hypothetical trans woman has hypothetical penis

I was making a quip about current affairs. The SNP MP who took the train journey knowing she had Covid was Margaret Ferrier. A party official was quoted as saying "there was no malice to it.... Margaret is just really hard of thinking."
The SNP MP who in her own words thinks "trans women are also adult human females." is Kirsty Blackman. When she was questioned about biological sex she replied "My son and I both have brown hair. That’s a biological similarity. We also both have hay fever. We share lots of biological similarities. I share biological similarities with lots of people, some of them have vaginas and some of them don’t."
The tweets are in the link below if you'd like to peruse.

Being gay is not an "expression"-- it's an innate orientation.
"Also I don’t think anyone is denying that biological sex exists..."
They sure as fuck are, plenty of them, some of them in powerful positions. Google "Chase Strangio." Go to their Twitter account.
"...but every scientist will tell you that it is not binary..."
Um, the scientist who is my spouse and has a degree in biology and works at EPA says you're full of shit. Human beings are a binary species because males and females reproduce together. That's it. That's all. Every single human being on earth is the result of the coupling of a male and a female.
"...in that many variations on your standard XX / XY binary exist in real life."
What don't you understand about this statement: "All intersex human beings are either male or female." You don't want it to be true-- I get that. It's still TRUE.

R37 I believe being gay does have a dimension of expression. There are homosexual people that are closeted and don’t express their homosexuality outward and then there are gay people that are open and proud of expressing their sexuality. Your repression is your problem.
“ They sure as fuck are, plenty of them, some of them in powerful positions. Google "Chase Strangio." Go to their Twitter account.”
Petition to stop having to act as if Twitter is a verifiable source?
Your imaginary husband is all well and good. But you do understand that just because all humans are born from a male and female of the species - that this doesn’t deny the existence of intersex people that don’t necessarily take part in reproduction? That would be like saying infertile people don’t exist because babies are born. Oh god there’s more.
Intersex people are not necessarily male or female. I won’t argue with you on this but take it up with the UN if you’re really bothered.
