Goldie Hawn

From A list to D list. Can she ever come back?

by Anonymousreply 149June 20, 2021 5:15 AM

Her upper lip bothers me.

by Anonymousreply 1September 16, 2020 2:24 AM

Was she in Christmas Chronicles 1? Sad

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2020 2:26 AM

I love Kurt Russell’s wig

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2020 2:27 AM

What’s a Goldie Hawn?

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2020 2:28 AM

She is a Hollywood legend, OP. TCM recently did a whole 24 hour marathon of her.

Goldie's reputation will be forever secure.

Also, she is in her mid seventies. Leave her alone.

She has nothing to prove at this point.

by Anonymousreply 5September 16, 2020 2:28 AM

Here's a better question. What idiot would ask this question about a 74 yr actor who has had a 50 yr career? Is this supposed to be amusing?

by Anonymousreply 6September 16, 2020 2:28 AM

She had a pretty good run. Better than most have had.

I doubt she wants to put as much work into her career now in her 70s like she did when she was in her 20s, 30s, and 40s. She was scarcely seen for a while before making a comeback.

by Anonymousreply 7September 16, 2020 2:29 AM

Over

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2020 2:30 AM

I can't stand her particular brand of toxic femininity.

by Anonymousreply 9September 16, 2020 2:30 AM

Oh yeah, R5 is correct. She's Hollywood royalty and will stay that way forever.

by Anonymousreply 10September 16, 2020 2:31 AM

She peaked with First Wives Club.

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2020 2:34 AM

I’d really like to see her in a dramatic role. She’s made her career in comedy, but I think she could turn in an excellent performance in a drama.

by Anonymousreply 12September 16, 2020 2:35 AM

I love Private Benjamin and Protocol.

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2020 2:39 AM

Care to elaborate R9? I agree with you just curious why you feel the same. Personally she strikes me as cold and two faced and not the warm woman she's known to be

by Anonymousreply 14September 16, 2020 2:40 AM

I love Goldie but she turned exactly into her First Wives Club character, right down to the lip injections.

Sad.

by Anonymousreply 15September 16, 2020 2:41 AM

My favorites are Death Becomes Her and Private Benjamin. I could see her in a good supporting role but this film looks typically awful for Netflix. That movie Snatched with Amy Schumer was a bust.

by Anonymousreply 16September 16, 2020 2:42 AM

She isn't "D-List," she's a legend!

by Anonymousreply 17September 16, 2020 2:42 AM

Did they show The Girl from Petrovka?

Nyet.

by Anonymousreply 18September 16, 2020 2:45 AM

She was great in Cactus Flower, Butterflies Are Free, The Sugarland Express, Shampoo, Foul Play, Private Benjamin, Protocol, Wildcats, Overboard, Deceived, HouseSitter, Death Becomes Her, and The First Wives Club.

by Anonymousreply 19September 16, 2020 2:46 AM

And in Everyone Says I Love You

by Anonymousreply 20September 16, 2020 2:47 AM

I love her. In all her various incarnations. Always something charming. Also, she produced a TV Movie "The Matthew Shepard Story" about you-know-what with DL fave Stockard Channng as his mother. Forever we love you.

by Anonymousreply 21September 16, 2020 2:48 AM

And I loved her in "Foul Play" alongside Chevy Chase. Hilarious film.

by Anonymousreply 22September 16, 2020 2:49 AM

She's always a pleasure to watch, even in bad movies.

by Anonymousreply 23September 16, 2020 2:50 AM

Yu all forgot my favorite! Seems Like Old Times!

by Anonymousreply 24September 16, 2020 2:52 AM

She was/is a gifted comedian, but how may parts are there for 74 year-old actresses?

by Anonymousreply 25September 16, 2020 2:53 AM

You. Yu??

by Anonymousreply 26September 16, 2020 2:54 AM

Agreed that Goldie is very far from D-list. She’s up there with Shirley MacLaine and other living actors who had big success in the 60s and 70s. She was never going to be the next Katharine Hepburn, but she achieved a very admirable station in Hollywood. Her career never went “down the shitter”, as we say here. She’s a deserved Oscar winner, and she continued her success as a mostly comedic actress well into the 2000s. She’s allowed a degree of retirement without being called a failure.

by Anonymousreply 27September 16, 2020 2:54 AM

I can't UNSEE that face - AHHHHHHHHHHH

by Anonymousreply 28September 16, 2020 2:55 AM

I like Goldie but shame on her for unleashing her talent-free, whiny, bitchy daughter Kate Hudson on the world and the Silver Screen. Never mind about Goldie, it's Kate Hudson whose career is over at only age 41. She's jinxed every movie she's been in about the last 5 years and isn't even remotely box office anymore. She would have had a long list of audition rejections if she hadn't been Goldie Hawn's daughter.

by Anonymousreply 42September 16, 2020 3:19 AM

R32: her MOUTH!

by Anonymousreply 43September 16, 2020 3:21 AM

She was producer on Swing Shift r39. She didn't like Demme's original cut. She had everyone come back and reshoot scenes. The rumour is she didn't like how Christine Lahti's character and performance were stealing the film. She also didn't like how her character came across. It was an ego trip.

All the reshoots didn't help. The film flopped. The director's cut has never been officially released.

And Lahti STILL got the Oscar nomination.

by Anonymousreply 44September 16, 2020 3:25 AM

[quote] She is a Hollywood legend, OP. TCM recently did a whole 24 hour marathon of her.

They did a different celeb every day for the whole month. Let's not act like it was a singular honor.

by Anonymousreply 45September 16, 2020 3:26 AM

Goldie is charming. For about an hour of a movie. And until 1996.

Toxic femininity is the perfect description for her affect. A type of gushing girliness that never grows up. Leslie Ann Warren has it too. Yuck. A woman should at some point become a woman.

by Anonymousreply 46September 16, 2020 3:26 AM

R44 Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell met on the set of Swing Shift and fell in love. As a result she kept on making Kurt's part bigger and Christine's part smaller. Christine was VERY pissed but there was nothing she could do, and unfortunately she never went on to become a top actress and eventually faded away.

by Anonymousreply 47September 16, 2020 3:32 AM

She's 80. She's been a star for over 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 48September 16, 2020 3:36 AM

OMG she is 74 not 80

by Anonymousreply 49September 16, 2020 3:38 AM

She has good taste, however.

by Anonymousreply 52September 16, 2020 4:06 AM

What she could pull off in her comedic prime is arguably more impressive than most dramatic actresses today could attempt. She's earned every penny and accolade she has.

by Anonymousreply 53September 16, 2020 4:30 AM

Christmas Chronicles 2? Emmy for Goldie Hawn!

by Anonymousreply 54September 16, 2020 4:33 AM

At least she can still be in a film as a named star. Faye Dunaway, Meg Ryan, Melanie Griffith are way below her in stature.

by Anonymousreply 55September 16, 2020 4:36 AM

[quote]She was producer on Swing Shift All the reshoots didn't help. The film flopped. The director's cut has never been officially released. And Lahti STILL got the Oscar nomination.

None of that matters. All that matters is that we got to see Ed Harris' penis.

by Anonymousreply 56September 16, 2020 4:54 AM

The only way Goldie is coming back is through Kate Hudson.

by Anonymousreply 57September 16, 2020 6:09 AM

She's like 82 years old. She has money and kids and grandkids. Kurt has stopped with the Asian hookers, mostly. That means a lot less STDs for Goldie. She's famously unclean and smells of weed and patchouli. How can she come back if she doesn't remember where she is? Nothing like a raspy giggler. That's what Kurt calls it. Inside of Goldie is like a cat's tongue.

by Anonymousreply 58September 16, 2020 6:15 AM

She had like 5 lines in a final scene cameo in CC 1.

Yeah I have Netflix and perused the film...

by Anonymousreply 63September 16, 2020 1:30 PM

LOVE ME SOME KURT! even in that black and pepper wig and beard for santa he's a sexy daddy/granddaddy! whew!..

decades ago, used to have a neighbor down the street who looked just like him in the face and hair during kurt's prime! but unlike kurt, this neighbor had a great body and would regularly ride his motorcycle down the road shirtless and in 80's style short shorts! what a vision, what a sight of eye candy he was!.

by Anonymousreply 64September 16, 2020 1:38 PM

I liked Goldie in her films from decades ago like The House Sitter, Private Benjamin and Death Becomes Her.

The issue she has now is that she decided not to age gracefully. That's fine - but at her age, she can't really play the age-appropriate grandma roles because she doesn't look like a grandma, but nor can she play the leading lady so there are just not very many roles out there for her. However, I doubt she's really that bothered as she has the luxury of being able to enjoy retirement. And she's had years of being railed by Kurt Russell who was hot as hell in his youth and is still a handsome man even at his age now.

by Anonymousreply 65September 16, 2020 1:41 PM

Was she and Kurt paid over a million?

What about rumors that she and Jessica Lange were escorts when they needed easy cash. You end up with the face you earn.

by Anonymousreply 68September 16, 2020 3:12 PM

Why one earth would GH and JL need easy cash? GH has been working steadily forever and I believe taught in a ballet school before going on to Laugh In. I love how people claim every actress was an escort.

Tara Reid and Lindsay Lohan I can see but the above? No.

by Anonymousreply 69September 16, 2020 3:16 PM

In the late 70’s this former A list (YA) mostly movie actress who got her start in television and has offspring galore in the business, had her movie career crash. She was always a free spirit and judging by what I saw, she got paid almost as much for one night as she did on most of her movies in the 70’s. If you were ever going to think of an actress (YB) back then who would be into this type of thing it would be this A lister at the time from a huge franchise who never had any other luck. For a few years she was someone everyone wanted and apparently many enjoyed. One I was shocked to see was someone who has won an Academy Award (YC). Back in the 70’s everyone loved her acting and by the time the last year of the decade arrived she was one of the biggest stars on the planet. The year before that though she struggled to earn money and this actress who is now an A list mostly television actress was a favorite of a lot of people. Probably the most requested of the decade.

Goldie Hawn, Carrie Fisher, Jessica Lange

by Anonymousreply 70September 16, 2020 4:27 PM

OP - Hawn is 74 years old. Which is about your IQ.

You are a COMPLETE AND TOTAL ASSWIPE, not amusing, and your set up doesn't fit Hawn at all.

Die in a grease fire.

Good grief: it’s not meant to be a serious thread. My apologies if you were triggered.

by Anonymousreply 73September 16, 2020 4:52 PM

She couldn't age gracefully because she turned into a leather face when she got old, hence the severe plastic surgery. After all her years of sunbathing and smoking she was stuck between a rock and a hard place with regards to her looks. She had a good run while she could though

by Anonymousreply 74September 16, 2020 5:20 PM

She seems fairly healthy. She’s had a long relationship with a man who was very, very hot for a very, very long time. She had a wonderful career. She made plenty of money. She’s overdone the face surgery, but she seems healthy. And she still gets to make the odd movie if she wants to.

How many of us are at the pinnacle of our career in our mid-70s? I doubt she needs our pity!

by Anonymousreply 77September 16, 2020 8:34 PM

She was the producer of Private Benjamin. I think one of the first women to do so.

by Anonymousreply 78September 16, 2020 8:41 PM

They met on the set of a Disney movie in 1966 when she was 21 (and a featured chorus dancer) and he was 16. She thought he was a cutie but too young. Then they met again in Swing Shift and proceeded to fall in live.

The career troll annoys me. Hawn was courted into coming back for SNATCHED. It didn't work as a movie (and is not worth watching).

She doesn't need money, fame, or critical praise. Or for people to try to consider her capacity for a "Comeback" at 75.

If she wants to do a series or get some grandma roles in movies, there will be a line out the door. If she wanted that, she'd already have done it though.

by Anonymousreply 93September 16, 2020 11:00 PM

She also has a little of that Barbra Streisand thing where she decides to stop working for awhile at a time. If you stop working for 10-20 years and come back with something like Snatched or The Guilt Trip, it's a little underwhelming. Maybe she's too picky or doesn't want to play grandmothers. Then again, wouldn't it be a little ghoulish to see eternally girlish Goldie Hawn fumbling around the kitchen making cookies for her 8 year old grandson at her age? I don't see her toning down the cutesy thing much. Even in Snatched, she was playing a bit of a ditz.

by Anonymousreply 94September 16, 2020 11:07 PM

Some of these ancient eldergays overestimate the demand for Goldie Hawn and Barbaric Streizand!! Goldie didn't "decide" to take time off from being in films. She wasn't pleased with what little was offered to her. The Banger Sisters is not a good movie, but Goldie was terrible. And trashed for not getting that she wasn't a cute old groupie - she was a hag. She thinks she's cute. Yuck.

BUT, because Schumer was hot a few years ago and had a hit with Trainwreck - Miss Goldie Hawn decided to make a "return" to film. Hoping for a hit. She did the circuit for that project. On every platform. Giggling. With the incongruent hairstyle and smokers cough. The movie failed for reasons I don't know. I didn't bother to see it.

Goldie Hawn was enjoyable. Time decides who is important. She's not. She made only a few good movies. The first half of Private Benjamin is comic bliss - then she gets very much like Barbara Streusel and had to switch the channel and mood of the film, that makes her suddenly irresistible with a fake female empowerment l o n g boring predictable end. Goldie had charm and some sex appeal. And she's a really good comedic actress. She doesn't only work occasionally. She is not invited. And nobody under 50 knows who she is. And she looks like Ellie May Clampett crossed with Baby Jane Hudson.

by Anonymousreply 95September 16, 2020 11:38 PM

She looks terrifying in that picture.

by Anonymousreply 96September 16, 2020 11:47 PM

Who's Barbara Streusel?

by Anonymousreply 97September 16, 2020 11:47 PM

Goldie has been honest that aging is difficult for 99.9% of actresses. There’s only a handful that are older and have clout. She gave it a final go with Snatched hoping that it would be a big hit. Ditto with Barbra and The Guilt Trip.

She seems happy with her family and probably picked up a few extra million (?) for this holiday film. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

[quote]R39 What happened?

Goldie was pissed SWING SHIFT costar Christine Lahti came across so well in the original cut. So as producer she took the film away from director Jonathan Demme and re-edited it to emphasize her own character.

Her modern day equivalent is Emma Stone (who also looks like she'll age horribly).

R132 I thought she was truly very pretty around that period (Private Benjamin/Foul play). I’m not quite sure what tweaks she had after her early years (I guess a nose job and the widening of her jaw) but it really did make a world of difference.

Are we over Goldie yet? Good!

by Anonymousreply 134September 23, 2020 11:38 PM

I've been over her since the 60's.

by Anonymousreply 135September 23, 2020 11:40 PM

Even before she got all haggard and old, she was no beauty and relied on tics and mannerisms to sell her films. The only films of her I can tolerate are WILDCATS and DECEIVED. The latter was better than I expected. The former had me screaming with the cheerleaders and at "U-G-L-Y, you ain't go no alibis - you UGLAY, you UGLAY, yo' momma say you UGLAY!" Good times.

She doesnt need to come back...shes an Oscar winning actress with a string of hits along with the fame and wealth. Shes an old lady, let her do her thing.

She used to be young and beautiful and weird. Now she’s old and fat and weird. So, no.

So young.

[quote] I don't think it's lavender. Goldie is 86 and Kirk is 80 now.

He’s 69 and she’s 74.

[quote] Pretty sure it's a lavender marriage. How many 21 yr old females fall in love with 16 yr old boys?

They didn’t actually get together until they were in their 30s. And can you really provide even one good reason to think their marriage is lavender?

by Anonymousreply 142September 24, 2020 1:25 AM

I only hired her because she's your friend. I hardly know her.

by Anonymousreply 143September 24, 2020 1:33 AM

Kennedy Center should Honors her by now.

by Anonymousreply 144September 27, 2020 1:01 AM

It’s hard to get an honor like that unless you have done something more current. I love Goldie but her career ended around the 1990’s.

I'm going to give it to you straight - this could happen...but she's going to have to really commit

If Goldie could be revealed to be a serial killer, maybe the Zodiac Killer?

Goldie, call me darling...I can walk you through this

She and kurt just had a new house built. So she probably doesn't need the money. What type of salaries did she collect for the Movies she Starred in?

by Anonymousreply 147September 27, 2020 12:44 PM

She's Hollywood royalty. Her mark has already been made and I hope she enjoys a long retirement. I loved her giggly sunny silliness.

Does she want to? She's seems pretty content.
