From A list to D list. Can she ever come back?
|by Anonymous||reply 133||20 hours ago|
Her upper lip bothers me.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||Last Tuesday at 6:24 PM|
Was she in Christmas Chronicles 1? Sad
|by Anonymous||reply 2||Last Tuesday at 6:26 PM|
I love Kurt Russell’s wig
|by Anonymous||reply 3||Last Tuesday at 6:27 PM|
What’s a Goldie Hawn?
|by Anonymous||reply 4||Last Tuesday at 6:28 PM|
She is a Hollywood legend, OP. TCM recently did a whole 24 hour marathon of her.
Goldie's reputation will be forever secure.
Also, she is in her mid seventies. Leave her alone.
She has nothing to prove at this point.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||Last Tuesday at 6:28 PM|
Here's a better question. What idiot would ask this question about a 74 yr actor who has had a 50 yr career? Is this supposed to be amusing?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||Last Tuesday at 6:28 PM|
She had a pretty good run. Better than most have had.
I doubt she wants to put as much work into her career now in her 70s like she did when she was in her 20s, 30s, and 40s. She was scarcely seen for a while before making a comeback.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||Last Tuesday at 6:29 PM|
|by Anonymous||reply 8||Last Tuesday at 6:30 PM|
I can't stand her particular brand of toxic femininity.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||Last Tuesday at 6:30 PM|
Oh yeah, R5 is correct. She's Hollywood royalty and will stay that way forever.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||Last Tuesday at 6:31 PM|
She peaked with First Wives Club.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||Last Tuesday at 6:34 PM|
I’d really like to see her in a dramatic role. She’s made her career in comedy, but I think she could turn in an excellent performance in a drama.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||Last Tuesday at 6:35 PM|
I love Private Benjamin and Protocol.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||Last Tuesday at 6:39 PM|
Care to elaborate R9? I agree with you just curious why you feel the same. Personally she strikes me as cold and two faced and not the warm woman she's known to be
|by Anonymous||reply 14||Last Tuesday at 6:40 PM|
I love Goldie but she turned exactly into her First Wives Club character, right down to the lip injections.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||Last Tuesday at 6:41 PM|
My favorites are Death Becomes Her and Private Benjamin. I could see her in a good supporting role but this film looks typically awful for Netflix. That movie Snatched with Amy Schumer was a bust.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||Last Tuesday at 6:42 PM|
She isn't "D-List," she's a legend!
|by Anonymous||reply 17||Last Tuesday at 6:42 PM|
Did they show The Girl from Petrovka?
|by Anonymous||reply 18||Last Tuesday at 6:45 PM|
She was great in Cactus Flower, Butterflies Are Free, The Sugarland Express, Shampoo, Foul Play, Private Benjamin, Protocol, Wildcats, Overboard, Deceived, HouseSitter, Death Becomes Her, and The First Wives Club.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||Last Tuesday at 6:46 PM|
And in Everyone Says I Love You
|by Anonymous||reply 20||Last Tuesday at 6:47 PM|
I love her. In all her various incarnations. Always something charming. Also, she produced a TV Movie "The Matthew Shepard Story" about you-know-what with DL fave Stockard Channng as his mother. Forever we love you.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||Last Tuesday at 6:48 PM|
And I loved her in "Foul Play" alongside Chevy Chase. Hilarious film.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||Last Tuesday at 6:49 PM|
She's always a pleasure to watch, even in bad movies.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||Last Tuesday at 6:50 PM|
Yu all forgot my favorite! Seems Like Old Times!
|by Anonymous||reply 24||Last Tuesday at 6:52 PM|
She was/is a gifted comedian, but how may parts are there for 74 year-old actresses?
|by Anonymous||reply 25||Last Tuesday at 6:53 PM|
|by Anonymous||reply 26||Last Tuesday at 6:54 PM|
Agreed that Goldie is very far from D-list. She’s up there with Shirley MacLaine and other living actors who had big success in the 60s and 70s. She was never going to be the next Katharine Hepburn, but she achieved a very admirable station in Hollywood. Her career never went “down the shitter”, as we say here. She’s a deserved Oscar winner, and she continued her success as a mostly comedic actress well into the 2000s. She’s allowed a degree of retirement without being called a failure.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||Last Tuesday at 6:54 PM|
I can't UNSEE that face - AHHHHHHHHHHH
|by Anonymous||reply 28||Last Tuesday at 6:55 PM|
I like Goldie but shame on her for unleashing her talent-free, whiny, bitchy daughter Kate Hudson on the world and the Silver Screen. Never mind about Goldie, it's Kate Hudson whose career is over at only age 41. She's jinxed every movie she's been in about the last 5 years and isn't even remotely box office anymore. She would have had a long list of audition rejections if she hadn't been Goldie Hawn's daughter.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||Last Tuesday at 6:55 PM|
I don’t think she wants a TV series. Her face is also a little scary now
|by Anonymous||reply 30||Last Tuesday at 6:55 PM|
We'll always have Helen. ALWAYS.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||Last Tuesday at 6:56 PM|
|by Anonymous||reply 32||Last Tuesday at 6:57 PM|
I loved her dance scene in Everyone Says I Love You.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||Last Tuesday at 7:02 PM|
She was an ingenue 50 years ago. The only thing she's coming back from is afternoon cookies and juice in the kitchen in the Snowmass Senior Day Care Center.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||Last Tuesday at 7:02 PM|
She's had a great life, and some prime Kurt.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||Last Tuesday at 7:04 PM|
r12 She's done some drama. Sugarland Express. CrissCross. Deceived (great guilty pleasure thriller). Ironically, she plays the most dramatic role in Shampoo.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||Last Tuesday at 7:06 PM|
La Goldie! Yasssss Queen!!!!!!!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 37||Last Tuesday at 7:07 PM|
I wish we could see the original work print of Swing Shift. She really did Jonathan Demme dirty.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||Last Tuesday at 7:09 PM|
R38 What happened?
|by Anonymous||reply 39||Last Tuesday at 7:11 PM|
Why does she have a dog turd on her head in OP's photo?
|by Anonymous||reply 40||Last Tuesday at 7:16 PM|
Walt Disney's last words were "Kurt Russell".
|by Anonymous||reply 41||Last Tuesday at 7:19 PM|
Her career has been remarkably scandal free. I think she really was hoping Snatched would be her comeback. Lesson: Never work with Amy Schumer!
|by Anonymous||reply 42||Last Tuesday at 7:19 PM|
R32: her MOUTH!
|by Anonymous||reply 43||Last Tuesday at 7:21 PM|
She was producer on Swing Shift r39. She didn't like Demme's original cut. She had everyone come back and reshoot scenes. The rumour is she didn't like how Christine Lahti's character and performance were stealing the film. She also didn't like how her character came across. It was an ego trip.
All the reshoots didn't help. The film flopped. The director's cut has never been officially released.
And Lahti STILL got the Oscar nomination.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||Last Tuesday at 7:25 PM|
[quote] She is a Hollywood legend, OP. TCM recently did a whole 24 hour marathon of her.
They did a different celeb every day for the whole month. Let's not act like it was a singular honor.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||Last Tuesday at 7:26 PM|
Goldie is charming. For about an hour of a movie. And until 1996.
Toxic femininity is the perfect description for her affect. A type of gushing girliness that never grows up. Leslie Ann Warren has it too. Yuck. A woman should at some point become a woman.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||Last Tuesday at 7:26 PM|
R44 Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell met on the set of Swing Shift and fell in love. As a result she kept on making Kurt's part bigger and Christine's part smaller. Christine was VERY pissed but there was nothing she could do, and unfortunately she never went on to become a top actress and eventually faded away.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||Last Tuesday at 7:32 PM|
She's 80. She's been a star for over 50 years.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||Last Tuesday at 7:36 PM|
OMG she is 74 not 80
|by Anonymous||reply 49||Last Tuesday at 7:38 PM|
She has good taste, however.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||Last Tuesday at 7:43 PM|
R32, sadly now she looks like this Helen.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||Last Tuesday at 7:53 PM|
She looks like DLers?
|by Anonymous||reply 52||Last Tuesday at 8:06 PM|
What she could pull off in her comedic prime is arguably more impressive than most dramatic actresses today could attempt. She's earned every penny and accolade she has.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||Last Tuesday at 8:30 PM|
Christmas Chronicles 2? Emmy for Goldie Hawn!
|by Anonymous||reply 54||Last Tuesday at 8:33 PM|
At least she can still be in a film as a named star. Faye Dunaway, Meg Ryan, Melanie Griffith are way below her in stature.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||Last Tuesday at 8:36 PM|
[quote]She was producer on Swing Shift All the reshoots didn't help. The film flopped. The director's cut has never been officially released. And Lahti STILL got the Oscar nomination.
None of that matters. All that matters is that we got to see Ed Harris' penis.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||Last Tuesday at 8:54 PM|
The only way Goldie is coming back is through Kate Hudson.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||Last Tuesday at 10:09 PM|
She's like 82 years old. She has money and kids and grandkids. Kurt has stopped with the Asian hookers, mostly. That means a lot less STDs for Goldie. She's famously unclean and smells of weed and patchouli. How can she come back if she doesn't remember where she is? Nothing like a raspy giggler. That's what Kurt calls it. Inside of Goldie is like a cat's tongue.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||Last Tuesday at 10:15 PM|
She had like 5 lines in a final scene cameo in CC 1.
Yeah I have Netflix and perused the film...

|by Anonymous||reply 62||Last Wednesday at 5:27 AM|
she's four hundred years old
|by Anonymous||reply 63||Last Wednesday at 5:30 AM|
LOVE ME SOME KURT! even in that black and pepper wig and beard for santa he's a sexy daddy/granddaddy! whew!..
decades ago, used to have a neighbor down the street who looked just like him in the face and hair during kurt's prime! but unlike kurt, this neighbor had a great body and would regularly ride his motorcycle down the road shirtless and in 80's style short shorts! what a vision, what a sight of eye candy he was!.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||Last Wednesday at 5:38 AM|
I liked Goldie in her films from decades ago like The House Sitter, Private Benjamin and Death Becomes Her.
The issue she has now is that she decided not to age gracefully. That's fine - but at her age, she can't really play the age-appropriate grandma roles because she doesn't look like a grandma, but nor can she play the leading lady so there are just not very many roles out there for her. However, I doubt she's really that bothered as she has the luxury of being able to enjoy retirement. And she's had years of being railed by Kurt Russell who was hot as hell in his youth and is still a handsome man even at his age now.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||Last Wednesday at 5:41 AM|
Was she and Kurt paid over a million?
|by Anonymous||reply 66||Last Wednesday at 6:10 AM|
r29, but she also gave us Oliver Hudson, so they kind of cancel each other out:
|by Anonymous||reply 67||Last Wednesday at 6:52 AM|
What about rumors that she and Jessica Lange were escorts when they needed easy cash. You end up with the face you earn.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||Last Wednesday at 7:12 AM|
Why one earth would GH and JL need easy cash? GH has been working steadily forever and I believe taught in a ballet school before going on to Laugh In. I love how people claim every actress was an escort.
Tara Reid and Lindsay Lohan I can see but the above? No.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||Last Wednesday at 7:16 AM|
In the late 70’s this former A list (YA) mostly movie actress who got her start in television and has offspring galore in the business, had her movie career crash. She was always a free spirit and judging by what I saw, she got paid almost as much for one night as she did on most of her movies in the 70’s. If you were ever going to think of an actress (YB) back then who would be into this type of thing it would be this A lister at the time from a huge franchise who never had any other luck. For a few years she was someone everyone wanted and apparently many enjoyed. One I was shocked to see was someone who has won an Academy Award (YC). Back in the 70’s everyone loved her acting and by the time the last year of the decade arrived she was one of the biggest stars on the planet. The year before that though she struggled to earn money and this actress who is now an A list mostly television actress was a favorite of a lot of people. Probably the most requested of the decade.
Goldie Hawn, Carrie Fisher, Jessica Lange
|by Anonymous||reply 70||Last Wednesday at 8:27 AM|
OP - Hawn is 74 years old. Which is about your IQ.
You are a COMPLETE AND TOTAL ASSWIPE, not amusing, and your set up doesn't fit Hawn at all.
Die in a grease fire.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||Last Wednesday at 8:30 AM|

We don’t stop loving our favorite people because they developed. wrinkles.

Good grief: it’s not meant to be a serious thread. My apologies if you were triggered.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||Last Wednesday at 8:52 AM|
She couldn't age gracefully because she turned into a leather face when she got old, hence the severe plastic surgery. After all her years of sunbathing and smoking she was stuck between a rock and a hard place with regards to her looks. She had a good run while she could though
|by Anonymous||reply 74||Last Wednesday at 9:20 AM|
Goldie is forever a star.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||Last Wednesday at 12:17 PM|
Oliver has his mother’s chins.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||Last Wednesday at 12:24 PM|
She seems fairly healthy. She’s had a long relationship with a man who was very, very hot for a very, very long time. She had a wonderful career. She made plenty of money. She’s overdone the face surgery, but she seems healthy. And she still gets to make the odd movie if she wants to.
How many of us are at the pinnacle of our career in our mid-70s? I doubt she needs our pity!
|by Anonymous||reply 77||Last Wednesday at 12:34 PM|
She was the producer of Private Benjamin. I think one of the first women to do so.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||Last Wednesday at 12:41 PM|
It was so odd that she came out of retirement to do that crappy Amy Schumer comedy. Her heyday was the late 60s up until the late 90s.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||Last Wednesday at 12:45 PM|
I know I’ve seen that upper lip and those cheeks somewhere

|by Anonymous||reply 86||Last Wednesday at 1:49 PM|
I'm contractually obligated to watch "Overboard" whenever it comes on, so I definitely enjoy Goldie's work over the years. However, as much as I was looking forward to her appearance in "Snatched," it was clear her best work is behind her.

[quote] Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell met on the set of Swing Shift and fell in love.
Well, the second part of that sentence is true.
They met on the set of a Disney movie in 1966 when she was 21 (and a featured chorus dancer) and he was 16. She thought he was a cutie but too young. Then they met again in Swing Shift and proceeded to fall in live.

|by Anonymous||reply 91||Last Wednesday at 2:54 PM|
Kinda strange looking boy but I bet he was charming.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||Last Wednesday at 2:56 PM|
The career troll annoys me. Hawn was courted into coming back for SNATCHED. It didn't work as a movie (and is not worth watching).
She doesn't need money, fame, or critical praise. Or for people to try to consider her capacity for a "Comeback" at 75.
If she wants to do a series or get some grandma roles in movies, there will be a line out the door. If she wanted that, she'd already have done it though.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||Last Wednesday at 3:00 PM|
She also has a little of that Barbra Streisand thing where she decides to stop working for awhile at a time. If you stop working for 10-20 years and come back with something like Snatched or The Guilt Trip, it's a little underwhelming. Maybe she's too picky or doesn't want to play grandmothers. Then again, wouldn't it be a little ghoulish to see eternally girlish Goldie Hawn fumbling around the kitchen making cookies for her 8 year old grandson at her age? I don't see her toning down the cutesy thing much. Even in Snatched, she was playing a bit of a ditz.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||Last Wednesday at 3:07 PM|
Some of these ancient eldergays overestimate the demand for Goldie Hawn and Barbaric Streizand!! Goldie didn't "decide" to take time off from being in films. She wasn't pleased with what little was offered to her. The Banger Sisters is not a good movie, but Goldie was terrible. And trashed for not getting that she wasn't a cute old groupie - she was a hag. She thinks she's cute. Yuck.
BUT, because Schumer was hot a few years ago and had a hit with Trainwreck - Miss Goldie Hawn decided to make a "return" to film. Hoping for a hit. She did the circuit for that project. On every platform. Giggling. With the incongruent hairstyle and smokers cough. The movie failed for reasons I don't know. I didn't bother to see it.
Goldie Hawn was enjoyable. Time decides who is important. She's not. She made only a few good movies. The first half of Private Benjamin is comic bliss - then she gets very much like Barbara Streusel and had to switch the channel and mood of the film, that makes her suddenly irresistible with a fake female empowerment l o n g boring predictable end. Goldie had charm and some sex appeal. And she's a really good comedic actress. She doesn't only work occasionally. She is not invited. And nobody under 50 knows who she is. And she looks like Ellie May Clampett crossed with Baby Jane Hudson.
|by Anonymous||reply 95||Last Wednesday at 3:38 PM|
She looks terrifying in that picture.
|by Anonymous||reply 96||Last Wednesday at 3:47 PM|
Who's Barbara Streusel?
|by Anonymous||reply 97||Last Wednesday at 3:47 PM|
Goldie has been honest that aging is difficult for 99.9% of actresses. There’s only a handful that are older and have clout. She gave it a final go with Snatched hoping that it would be a big hit. Ditto with Barbra and The Guilt Trip.
She seems happy with her family and probably picked up a few extra million (?) for this holiday film. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Goldie really should have tried to get Blythe's role in The Focker franchise. She must have a crap agent.
|by Anonymous||reply 103||Last Wednesday at 6:13 PM|
I wonder if Amy Schumer has any remorse that she pushed Goldie into a crap project.
|by Anonymous||reply 104||Last Wednesday at 6:29 PM|
Goldie should have realized that all of Amy Schumer's projects are crap.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||Last Wednesday at 6:31 PM|
I think her career is fine. So, where's the "I don't care" option?
|by Anonymous||reply 106||Last Wednesday at 6:32 PM|
[quote]R39 What happened?
Goldie was pissed SWING SHIFT costar Christine Lahti came across so well in the original cut. So as producer she took the film away from director Jonathan Demme and re-edited it to emphasize her own character.
The result was boring, a bomb, and not the film Demme (not to say Lahti!) envisioned.

R132 I thought she was truly very pretty around that period (Private Benjamin/Foul play). I’m not quite sure what tweaks she had after her early years (I guess a nose job and the widening of her jaw) but it really did make a world of difference.
