She is a Hollywood legend, OP. TCM recently did a whole 24 hour marathon of her.
Goldie's reputation will be forever secure.
Also, she is in her mid seventies. Leave her alone.
She has nothing to prove at this point.

Here's a better question. What idiot would ask this question about a 74 yr actor who has had a 50 yr career? Is this supposed to be amusing?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 16, 2020 2:28 AM |
She had a pretty good run. Better than most have had.
I doubt she wants to put as much work into her career now in her 70s like she did when she was in her 20s, 30s, and 40s. She was scarcely seen for a while before making a comeback.

Agreed that Goldie is very far from D-list. She’s up there with Shirley MacLaine and other living actors who had big success in the 60s and 70s. She was never going to be the next Katharine Hepburn, but she achieved a very admirable station in Hollywood. Her career never went “down the shitter”, as we say here. She’s a deserved Oscar winner, and she continued her success as a mostly comedic actress well into the 2000s. She’s allowed a degree of retirement without being called a failure.

I like Goldie but shame on her for unleashing her talent-free, whiny, bitchy daughter Kate Hudson on the world and the Silver Screen. Never mind about Goldie, it's Kate Hudson whose career is over at only age 41. She's jinxed every movie she's been in about the last 5 years and isn't even remotely box office anymore. She would have had a long list of audition rejections if she hadn't been Goldie Hawn's daughter.

R44 Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell met on the set of Swing Shift and fell in love. As a result she kept on making Kurt's part bigger and Christine's part smaller. Christine was VERY pissed but there was nothing she could do, and unfortunately she never went on to become a top actress and eventually faded away.

She's famously unclean and smells of weed and patchouli. How can she come back if she doesn't remember where she is? Nothing like a raspy giggler. That's what Kurt calls it. Inside of Goldie is like a cat's tongue.

by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 16, 2020 1:38 PM |
I liked Goldie in her films from decades ago like The House Sitter, Private Benjamin and Death Becomes Her.
The issue she has now is that she decided not to age gracefully. That's fine - but at her age, she can't really play the age-appropriate grandma roles because she doesn't look like a grandma, but nor can she play the leading lady so there are just not very many roles out there for her. However, I doubt she's really that bothered as she has the luxury of being able to enjoy retirement. And she's had years of being railed by Kurt Russell who was hot as hell in his youth and is still a handsome man even at his age now.

In the late 70’s this former A list (YA) mostly movie actress who got her start in television and has offspring galore in the business, had her movie career crash. She was always a free spirit and judging by what I saw, she got paid almost as much for one night as she did on most of her movies in the 70’s. If you were ever going to think of an actress (YB) back then who would be into this type of thing it would be this A lister at the time from a huge franchise who never had any other luck. For a few years she was someone everyone wanted and apparently many enjoyed. One I was shocked to see was someone who has won an Academy Award (YC). Back in the 70’s everyone loved her acting and by the time the last year of the decade arrived she was one of the biggest stars on the planet. The year before that though she struggled to earn money and this actress who is now an A list mostly television actress was a favorite of a lot of people. Probably the most requested of the decade.
Goldie Hawn, Carrie Fisher, Jessica Lange

Well, the second part of that sentence is true.
They met on the set of a Disney movie in 1966 when she was 21 (and a featured chorus dancer) and he was 16. She thought he was a cutie but too young. Then they met again in Swing Shift and proceeded to fall in live.

The career troll annoys me. Hawn was courted into coming back for SNATCHED. It didn't work as a movie (and is not worth watching).
She doesn't need money, fame, or critical praise. Or for people to try to consider her capacity for a "Comeback" at 75.
If she wants to do a series or get some grandma roles in movies, there will be a line out the door. If she wanted that, she'd already have done it though.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | September 16, 2020 11:00 PM |
She also has a little of that Barbra Streisand thing where she decides to stop working for awhile at a time. If you stop working for 10-20 years and come back with something like Snatched or The Guilt Trip, it's a little underwhelming. Maybe she's too picky or doesn't want to play grandmothers. Then again, wouldn't it be a little ghoulish to see eternally girlish Goldie Hawn fumbling around the kitchen making cookies for her 8 year old grandson at her age? I don't see her toning down the cutesy thing much. Even in Snatched, she was playing a bit of a ditz.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | September 16, 2020 11:07 PM |
Some of these ancient eldergays overestimate the demand for Goldie Hawn and Barbaric Streizand!! Goldie didn't "decide" to take time off from being in films. She wasn't pleased with what little was offered to her. The Banger Sisters is not a good movie, but Goldie was terrible. And trashed for not getting that she wasn't a cute old groupie - she was a hag. She thinks she's cute. Yuck.
BUT, because Schumer was hot a few years ago and had a hit with Trainwreck - Miss Goldie Hawn decided to make a "return" to film. Hoping for a hit. She did the circuit for that project. On every platform. Giggling. With the incongruent hairstyle and smokers cough. The movie failed for reasons I don't know. I didn't bother to see it.
Goldie Hawn was enjoyable. Time decides who is important. She's not. She made only a few good movies. The first half of Private Benjamin is comic bliss - then she gets very much like Barbara Streusel and had to switch the channel and mood of the film, that makes her suddenly irresistible with a fake female empowerment l o n g boring predictable end. Goldie had charm and some sex appeal. And she's a really good comedic actress. She doesn't only work occasionally. She is not invited. And nobody under 50 knows who she is. And she looks like Ellie May Clampett crossed with Baby Jane Hudson.

Goldie has been honest that aging is difficult for 99.9% of actresses. There’s only a handful that are older and have clout. She gave it a final go with Snatched hoping that it would be a big hit. Ditto with Barbra and The Guilt Trip.
She seems happy with her family and probably picked up a few extra million (?) for this holiday film. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Even before she got all haggard and old, she was no beauty and relied on tics and mannerisms to sell her films. The only films of her I can tolerate are WILDCATS and DECEIVED. The latter was better than I expected. The former had me screaming with the cheerleaders and at "U-G-L-Y, you ain't go no alibis - you UGLAY, you UGLAY, yo' momma say you UGLAY!" Good times.

She doesnt need to come back...shes an Oscar winning actress with a string of hits along with the fame and wealth. Shes an old lady, let her do her thing.

She used to be young and beautiful and weird. Now she’s old and fat and weird. So, no.

[quote] I don't think it's lavender. Goldie is 86 and Kirk is 80 now.
He’s 69 and she’s 74.

[quote] Pretty sure it's a lavender marriage. How many 21 yr old females fall in love with 16 yr old boys?
They didn’t actually get together until they were in their 30s. And can you really provide even one good reason to think their marriage is lavender?

I only hired her because she's your friend. I hardly know her.

Kennedy Center should Honors her by now.

It’s hard to get an honor like that unless you have done something more current. I love Goldie but her career ended around the 1990’s.

I'm going to give it to you straight - this could happen...but she's going to have to really commit
If Goldie could be revealed to be a serial killer, maybe the Zodiac Killer?
Goldie, call me darling...I can walk you through this

She and kurt just had a new house built. So she probably doesn't need the money. What type of salaries did she collect for the Movies she Starred in?

She's Hollywood royalty. Her mark has already been made and I hope she enjoys a long retirement. I loved her giggly sunny silliness.

Does she want to? She's seems pretty content.
