The incestuous connections within the British Royal Family family tree

Even though I understood that Charles chose (or was encouraged to choose) Diana because she had some connections within upper class circles, I had no idea that Diana's father had been the Queen's equerry, and that I believe the Queen and Margaret knew her grandfather personally, etc. Diana's parents were married in Westminster Abbey as a result.

Everyone really did know or was related to everyone else, I guess!

(Yes, I know threads about the current BRF get trolled heavily, and I have zero interest in that discussion topic, but anyone who wishes to discuss historical aspects - 20th century or earlier - is welcome to respond)

You might want to look up the definition of ‘incestuous’.

Those people are all inbred.

I do understand it R1. Meant it more metaphorically, that everyone was swimming in the same pool, so to speak.

Diana grew up on the Queen’s estate. Fergie played with the Queen’s children. Their circles are pretty tight. It’s not really surprising they didn’t hang out down the local youth club.

I just remember hearing when I was a teenager - and Charles and Di were getting married - that she was a breath of fresh air, outsider, etc.

But that doesn't seem like it was ever really true. Charles may have skipped marrying his sister or a cousin but it's not like he went and found some girl down the chip shop, either.

R6 Diana was different in that she was English and a ‘commoner’. Traditionally, heirs to the throne would marry another Royal. Until relatively recently, that was always the case. Outside of the Royal Family, they couldn’t have found a more high-born than Diana. It’s odd how she’s spoken about like it was some kind of fairytale.

Johnny Spencer was the Queen's equierry.

Ronnie Ferguson was the polo manager for both Prince Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Diana's sister, Sarah, is married to a cousin of Raine, Countess Spencer, formerly married to Johnny Spencer and stepmum to Diana.

Lady Fermoy, grandmother of Diana and mother of Frances Shand Kydd, Johnny Spencer's first wife, was Lady in Waiting to the Queen Mum.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was married to Andrew Parker Bowles, love interest and close friend of the Princess Royal and Silver Stick in Waiting to QEII.

Cressida Bonas, Prince Harry's love interest, and Isabella Calthorpe, Prince William's love interest, are half-sisters. Cressida went on to marry the son of a cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Every square inch of England is inbred. Look at their faces. Every person in England who is native born has a family tree that's a straight line.

Fact.

I concur that Fergie and Andrew knew each other for years before the fact as children.

QEII and Prince Phillip are cousins twice over; once through Queen Victoria and once through King Christian IX of Denmark.

All members of almost all Royal House are cousins through John William Friso, Prince of Orange.

How is this news to anyone? Everyone knows the royal houses of Europe are related.

by Anonymousreply 12September 14, 2020 2:26 PM

oh, Johnnie Friso!

World War I was fought by three crowned heads of state who were all cousins. the romanovs, hohenzollerns and saxe-coburg families of russian, germany and england were all close enough to write each other cheery letters at holidays and such

by Anonymousreply 14September 14, 2020 2:30 PM

At the time Diana married Chuck, one of her sisters was already married to the Queens private secretary.

by Anonymousreply 15September 14, 2020 2:34 PM

R12 - I wanted an excuse to bring up John William Friso.

Remember the 30 Rock episode where Pee Wee Herman makes an appearance as the European Prince literally falling apart and damn near death because of his incestuous genetic makeup? Haha
