Sacha Baron Cohen is just wrong, physically, for Abby Hoffman. Yeah, he's dark, but he's also tall, slim, and rangy. Nothing like the stocky, compact, sprite-like Hoffman. I don't buy it.

I can’t stand Sacha Baron Cohen.

They're guilty!

R1, Aaron Sorkin said he wasn’t casting “a museum piece production,” he didn’t seek exact physical matches for the real life counterparts. He was more interested in casting actors who could convey the emotional essence of who they’d be portraying. Next to none of those who watch this will know Abbie Hoffman was way shorter than SBC, anyway.

Rave reactions from the virtual screening last night:

A film about a quintessentially American event and quintessentially American characters - and Brits in three of the principal roles.
There aren't any American Jews who can play Abbie Hoffman - especially ones that don't come with the baggage of Borat or Brüno?
Why does Eddie Redmayne have to play Tom Hayden? (Will they get some English rose to play Jane Fonda?)
Admittedly, though, Rylance as Kunstler - who was like a character out of a Shakespearean comedy - might be pretty good.

Abbie Hoffman was 32 at the time depicted. Sacha Baron Cohen is 48. What's wrong with this picture?

I think Seth Rogen would have made a good Abbie Hoffman (who was essentially a clown). Of course, he's not American either.

Well, it’s out today. Thoughts?

I'd watch just to hear Sacha Baron Cohen attempt a Boston accent. R9, welcome to Hollywood.

Sasha Baron Cohen was a terrible choice. The public is used to him playing dead pan sarcastic parody characters- how will it be to differentiate that from a dramatic performance?

He's an actor, he acted 32.

Hard pass. Cohen is unwatchable.

Love SBC. I’m watching it this evening.

R16, I shall join you.

Cohen was good in that Israeli spy thing.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 16, 2020 2:17 PM |
R18 yes he was. I think as an actor he's more than Borat and Bruno. I guess that's why he's an actor.

Cody Saintgnue from Teen Wolf is an executive producer on the film.

Self congratulatory Boomer jerk-off porn. Pass.

Why all the hate? "Bruno" got under your skin?
