I just bought Prizzi’s honor and just started watching. Not sure what to think yet! I miss her!
Kathleen Turner’s best movie

It’s a toss up of War of The Roses and Serial Mom for me!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 13, 2020 1:34 AM |
I agree, R1. That clip from Serial Mom on some other thread was hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 13, 2020 1:38 AM |
She was also electrifying on stage as Jude Law's mother in Indiscretions. Her face was so small, I could cover it with just a palm of my hand. She was so petite!!! Besides Jude Law presented his intact dong in that play too.

You know how I hate the brown word!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 13, 2020 1:41 AM |
Am I the only one who liked Crimes of Passion?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 13, 2020 1:43 AM |
R5, I really liked it too. It should be an option in OP's poll.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 13, 2020 1:44 AM |
Where is Prizzi's Honor or House of Cards
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 13, 2020 1:45 AM |
I just watched Serial Mom today. She's excellent in that.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 13, 2020 1:46 AM |
Only so many options allowed, r7. One of them should have replaced These Old Bones though! Bad OP!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 13, 2020 1:49 AM |
Turner is excellent in everything.
She was deservedly nominated for Peggy Sue Got Married. But also should have been nominated for Romancing the Stone or Crimes of Passion. She was brilliant in both.
Also, she should have been nominated for The War of the Roses. She really nailed the neglected and resentful housewife.
I watched V.I. Warshawski again. It's not bad. It looks like a '90s cable movie but Turner is good.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 13, 2020 1:50 AM |
R10 She really is the only reason the dreadful script for These Old Bones worked! She needs to be cast more despite what prednisone did to her appearance!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 13, 2020 1:57 AM |
Switching Channels was a damn mess, but she made it watchable
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 13, 2020 2:01 AM |
No love for Body Heat? It's one of my all-time-favorite movies.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 13, 2020 2:03 AM |
Leave it to DL to vote more for Serial Mom, even though she was painfully miscast in that film.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 13, 2020 2:07 AM |
I think a Serial Grandma film in with her current voice and appearance is a no brainer!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 13, 2020 2:08 AM |
She was perfect r14!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 13, 2020 2:09 AM |
Nah, R16. I agree with Roger Ebert when he said that she played the role with too much realism and was not in sync with the rest of the cast who played their roles as camp.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 13, 2020 2:12 AM |
Her realism played beautifully off the camp. Otherwise, it would have been a camp shitfest. Not the fun kind
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 13, 2020 2:15 AM |
I like a few of these films. However, I absolutely adore Peggy Sue. It’s my favourite time-travel film. Coppola and Turner captured a heartbreaking nostalgia and melancholy with such simple sweetness and subtle humour. Some of the details were so effortless, yet poignant, like the soft soothing of Barbara Harris’ voice, or the monotones of Sofia Coppola. I haven’t watched it in years, but it sends me adrift in tears whenever I do. She deserved the Oscar that year. A shame she didn’t win.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 13, 2020 2:16 AM |
I voted for Romancing the Stone, but KT’s reaction in Peggy Sue Got Married to talking with her grandparents again ruins me. I miss my grandparents so much!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 13, 2020 2:19 AM |
She was a huge box office star and then gained weight, got bloated with disease, and became an alcoholic in the blink of an eye.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 13, 2020 2:20 AM |
She was hysterically funny as the duplicitous wife in The Man With Two Brains.
She was only getting femme fatale offers after Body Heat, so she decided to send up the genre and be done with it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 13, 2020 2:26 AM |
She was absolutely perfect in Serial Mom. The scene of her driving to a murder while singing Barry Manilow is one of the greatest things ever captured on film.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 13, 2020 2:29 AM |
Thanks for the pointless update r22
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 13, 2020 2:31 AM |
This post makes me want to watch Peggy Sue again. Nick Cage was sultry when he was young.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 13, 2020 2:32 AM |
Not with the voice he used in that film, r27. Haha
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 13, 2020 2:34 AM |
I agree with r20 and r21. Those two posts capture what is so good about the film. That scene where Peggy hears her grandmother on the phone is, indeed, heartbreaking. That is exactly how someone would react in such a situation if they time-traveled. How many of us would love to hear the voice of our grandparents again?
I think the film is seen as one of Coppola's did-it-for-the-money films but I think it's one of his most affecting films. And I think it's far superior to Back to the Future.
I wish they would issue it again on Blu-Ray again since it's out of print. Criterion should reissue it.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 13, 2020 2:36 AM |
R28 the scene where they fuck...he sort of whispers in the dark. It’s very sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 13, 2020 2:36 AM |
Crimes of Passion. Great movie and she is great in it.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 13, 2020 2:38 AM |
R30 Honey, that voice was a CHOICE! It didn’t ruin the film, but it was an interesting choice nonetheless
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 13, 2020 2:38 AM |
Wasn't it Peggy Sue Got Married the reason Cher wanted him to co-star with her in Moonstruck? I think she liked that he was so off-beat.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 13, 2020 2:44 AM |
PSGM always makes e cry. I dont know if its her best but it always hits a raw spot in my heart
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 13, 2020 2:45 AM |
Hands down she was the greatest female movie star of the 80s. I absolutely adored her.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 13, 2020 2:50 AM |
Her My Country ‘Tis of Thee in Peggy Sue is like a hug from Jesus
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 13, 2020 2:54 AM |
Agreed r35. And every performance is as good as ever. Even something like Julia and Julia which I wish would get released on Blu-Ray.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 13, 2020 2:54 AM |
In terms of best KT performances, I would go with Body Heat and The Man With Two Brains.
But my favorite film from OP’s list is The Accidental Tourist which leaves me a blubbering mess each time I watch it. Kathleen is fine in it but isn’t the standout in that one.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 13, 2020 2:56 AM |
The first movie of hers I think I saw was Romancing the Stone and she dazzled.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 13, 2020 2:57 AM |
I haven’t seen The Man With Two Brains. It’s on my list for tomorrow
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 13, 2020 3:00 AM |
R40, it’s a lot of fun.
“Into the mud, scum queen!”
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 13, 2020 3:03 AM |
I’m on a Kathleen Turner comfort binge!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 13, 2020 3:08 AM |
That's a movie star baby. Turner should still be getting some delicious parts. Who cares if she's old and fat? Meryl and Patricia Clarkson can't play everything. Think how great she would have been in Sharp Objects or Big Little Lies. Or something better. Why isn't Ryan Ass Murphy writing parts for Kathleen Turner? I'll tell you why. Because she is too much woman for him. Not enough of a hag. I love her. I want her to have a starring role in a feature film. I might have to write it myself.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 13, 2020 3:17 AM |
Can we stream Peggy Sue or Accidental Tourist anywhere? I’ve ever seen AT and from these comments I need to!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 13, 2020 3:27 AM |
I chose Body Heat because it's a great movie and she's great in it, but would also state that The Accidental Tourist may be the best overall movie. It is SO touching; the book is even better. She's talented and has been very good in everything I've seen.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 13, 2020 3:47 AM |
Another Peggy Sue fan here. Turner plays the entire movie as if on the verge of tears, scared, uncertain, but forging ahead, schoolbooks clutched tightly to her ample bosom. Her raspy voice served her so well here in a vulnerable sense. And the last scene/shot that mirrors the first scene/shot is just brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 13, 2020 4:33 AM |
R43 the problem with her now is that she has not had consistent work and so she hasn’t adapted her style, I also think Serial Mom fucked up her image & acting style along with doing theatre, she plays to the rafters too much.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 13, 2020 12:11 PM |
Her Vanity Fair interview SPILLED. THE. TEA!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 13, 2020 4:04 PM |
Turner did, however, get specific again when describing her time opposite Nicolas Cage in Peggy Sue Got Married (directed by Cage’s uncle, Francis Ford Coppola). When she found out Cage was going to speak with a strange, nasally voice throughout the shoot, she went up to Coppola and bluntly asked, “You approved this choice?”
“[Cage] was very difficult on set,” she continued. “But the director allowed what Nicolas wanted to do with his role, so I wasn’t in a position to do much except play with what I’d been given. If anything, it [Cage’s portrayal] only further illustrated my character’s disillusionment with the past. The way I saw it was, yeah, he was that asshole.”
When asked to clarify whether she meant the actor or the character, Turner replied, “Listen, I made it work, honey.”

I always thought the actress who always “looks the same” was Reese, Julia or Anniston.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 13, 2020 4:24 PM |
I think this was her last lead movie role. I haven’t seen it but it’s free to stream on Tubi (available through Roku).
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 13, 2020 4:33 PM |
Sandra Bullock also “always looks the same”
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 13, 2020 4:36 PM |
And finally, she also recalled her time on the Friends set (she played Chandler Bing’s father in several episodes), saying she “didn’t feel very welcomed by the cast,” mostly because they were such a tight-knit crew. When asked what she thought of their acting skills, she chose, for once, to take an understated approach: “I won’t comment on that.”
😂
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 13, 2020 9:00 PM |
I think it’s definitely Julia r50
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 13, 2020 9:05 PM |
Her performance in Serial Mom is masterful. So funny!
However, Peggy Sue makes me cry every time. Not every actor can make you laugh and cry that hard.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 13, 2020 9:40 PM |
This was very entertaining when it aired on HBO a few years ago. I wish the entire episode was up.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 14, 2020 6:21 AM |
R13 Perhaps not her best movie or performance, (although it was great!), but definitely the hottest she ever looked!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 14, 2020 6:26 AM |
That interview may give some insight about why she hasn't been cast much on screen since gaining weight etc.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 14, 2020 6:55 AM |
For anyone interested, Peggy Sue Got Married was originally supposed to be Debra Winger..... and John Waters first choice for Serial Mom was Susan Sarandon.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 14, 2020 7:06 AM |
Body Heat will always be my favorite of her movies simply because she was such a revelation.
Also loved her in Peggy Sue Got Married. Such an underrated movie. Her performance is superb.
Also loved Romancing the Stone.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 14, 2020 7:08 AM |
Fun Fact: It was so cold in Florida when they shot Body Heat that she and William Hurt had to suck on ice cubes so their breath wouldn't freeze during their steamy outdoor seduction and makeout scene.
See nipples.

I remember Jason Biggs recounting how she ordered Evian (or some such water) with a comically OTT "Euro" accent - because she's the daughter of a diplomat, don't ya know.
