She was also electrifying on stage as Jude Law's mother in Indiscretions. Her face was so small, I could cover it with just a palm of my hand. She was so petite!!! Besides Jude Law presented his intact dong in that play too.

I just watched Serial Mom today. She's excellent in that.

Turner is excellent in everything.

She was deservedly nominated for Peggy Sue Got Married. But also should have been nominated for Romancing the Stone or Crimes of Passion. She was brilliant in both.

Also, she should have been nominated for The War of the Roses. She really nailed the neglected and resentful housewife.

I watched V.I. Warshawski again. It's not bad. It looks like a '90s cable movie but Turner is good.

R10 She really is the only reason the dreadful script for These Old Bones worked! She needs to be cast more despite what prednisone did to her appearance!

Switching Channels was a damn mess, but she made it watchable

Nah, R16. I agree with Roger Ebert when he said that she played the role with too much realism and was not in sync with the rest of the cast who played their roles as camp.

Her realism played beautifully off the camp. Otherwise, it would have been a camp shitfest. Not the fun kind

I like a few of these films. However, I absolutely adore Peggy Sue. It’s my favourite time-travel film. Coppola and Turner captured a heartbreaking nostalgia and melancholy with such simple sweetness and subtle humour. Some of the details were so effortless, yet poignant, like the soft soothing of Barbara Harris’ voice, or the monotones of Sofia Coppola. I haven’t watched it in years, but it sends me adrift in tears whenever I do. She deserved the Oscar that year. A shame she didn’t win.

I voted for Romancing the Stone, but KT’s reaction in Peggy Sue Got Married to talking with her grandparents again ruins me. I miss my grandparents so much!

She was a huge box office star and then gained weight, got bloated with disease, and became an alcoholic in the blink of an eye.

She was hysterically funny as the duplicitous wife in The Man With Two Brains.

She was only getting femme fatale offers after Body Heat, so she decided to send up the genre and be done with it.

She was absolutely perfect in Serial Mom. The scene of her driving to a murder while singing Barry Manilow is one of the greatest things ever captured on film.

I agree with r20 and r21. Those two posts capture what is so good about the film. That scene where Peggy hears her grandmother on the phone is, indeed, heartbreaking. That is exactly how someone would react in such a situation if they time-traveled. How many of us would love to hear the voice of our grandparents again?

I think the film is seen as one of Coppola's did-it-for-the-money films but I think it's one of his most affecting films. And I think it's far superior to Back to the Future.

I wish they would issue it again on Blu-Ray again since it's out of print. Criterion should reissue it.

In terms of best KT performances, I would go with Body Heat and The Man With Two Brains.

But my favorite film from OP’s list is The Accidental Tourist which leaves me a blubbering mess each time I watch it. Kathleen is fine in it but isn’t the standout in that one.

The first movie of hers I think I saw was Romancing the Stone and she dazzled.

That's a movie star baby. Turner should still be getting some delicious parts. Who cares if she's old and fat? Meryl and Patricia Clarkson can't play everything. Think how great she would have been in Sharp Objects or Big Little Lies. Or something better. Why isn't Ryan Ass Murphy writing parts for Kathleen Turner? I'll tell you why. Because she is too much woman for him. Not enough of a hag. I love her. I want her to have a starring role in a feature film. I might have to write it myself.

I chose Body Heat because it's a great movie and she's great in it, but would also state that The Accidental Tourist may be the best overall movie. It is SO touching; the book is even better. She's talented and has been very good in everything I've seen.

Another Peggy Sue fan here. Turner plays the entire movie as if on the verge of tears, scared, uncertain, but forging ahead, schoolbooks clutched tightly to her ample bosom. Her raspy voice served her so well here in a vulnerable sense. And the last scene/shot that mirrors the first scene/shot is just brilliant.

R43 the problem with her now is that she has not had consistent work and so she hasn’t adapted her style, I also think Serial Mom fucked up her image & acting style along with doing theatre, she plays to the rafters too much.

Turner did, however, get specific again when describing her time opposite Nicolas Cage in Peggy Sue Got Married (directed by Cage’s uncle, Francis Ford Coppola). When she found out Cage was going to speak with a strange, nasally voice throughout the shoot, she went up to Coppola and bluntly asked, “You approved this choice?”

“[Cage] was very difficult on set,” she continued. “But the director allowed what Nicolas wanted to do with his role, so I wasn’t in a position to do much except play with what I’d been given. If anything, it [Cage’s portrayal] only further illustrated my character’s disillusionment with the past. The way I saw it was, yeah, he was that asshole.”

When asked to clarify whether she meant the actor or the character, Turner replied, “Listen, I made it work, honey.”

I always thought the actress who always “looks the same” was Reese, Julia or Anniston.

I think this was her last lead movie role. I haven’t seen it but it’s free to stream on Tubi (available through Roku).

And finally, she also recalled her time on the Friends set (she played Chandler Bing’s father in several episodes), saying she “didn’t feel very welcomed by the cast,” mostly because they were such a tight-knit crew. When asked what she thought of their acting skills, she chose, for once, to take an understated approach: “I won’t comment on that.”

Her performance in Serial Mom is masterful. So funny!

However, Peggy Sue makes me cry every time. Not every actor can make you laugh and cry that hard.

This was very entertaining when it aired on HBO a few years ago. I wish the entire episode was up.

R13 Perhaps not her best movie or performance, (although it was great!), but definitely the hottest she ever looked!

That interview may give some insight about why she hasn't been cast much on screen since gaining weight etc.

For anyone interested, Peggy Sue Got Married was originally supposed to be Debra Winger..... and John Waters first choice for Serial Mom was Susan Sarandon.

Body Heat will always be my favorite of her movies simply because she was such a revelation.

Also loved her in Peggy Sue Got Married. Such an underrated movie. Her performance is superb.

Fun Fact: It was so cold in Florida when they shot Body Heat that she and William Hurt had to suck on ice cubes so their breath wouldn't freeze during their steamy outdoor seduction and makeout scene.
