Trump after meeting with Evangelicals: “Can you believe people believe that bullshit?”

President Donald Trump spoke condescendingly about evangelical Christians after holding a meeting with religious leaders before the 2016 election, his former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen has claimed in a new book.

The one time I've agreed with President Plump

by Anonymousreply 1September 7, 2020 3:44 PM

At least I agree with Trump here

by Anonymousreply 2September 7, 2020 3:44 PM

They are using each other. trump needs their votes; they want him to name SCOTUS judges to make abortion illegal

I prefer this image of Trump standing in front of St. John's.

It was going around the news that during the transition, people would meet with Pence, then Trump. After meeting with Pence, Trump would ask everyone, “Did Mike make you pray?”

by Anonymousreply 7September 7, 2020 3:52 PM

"God" was mentioned numerous times as stated in reviews of the RNC. Whether that was pandering or not isn't relevant as Trump's base eats it up.

Personally believe that many of Trump's supporters don't really like his personality but feel that the alternative is worse. Evangelicals want school choice with a home schooling option. Evangelicals want the Pledge of Allegiance recited at all public school assemblies. Evangelicals want a back to the basics approach to education.

They're more likely to get what they want with Trump rather than Biden including a return to Las & Order.

That Trump would hold the Bible upside down tells you all you need to know about how much he believes in it.

by Anonymousreply 9September 7, 2020 4:00 PM

I love that pic @r4!

by Anonymousreply 10September 7, 2020 4:01 PM

R8, of course is complete pandering. Does anyone truly believe Trump and any of the GOP Politicians give a shit about the evangelicals personally??

Evangelicals want religion pushed in schools. I'm all for a back to basics approach but I'll take mine without a mention of god and without the brainwashing for christianity that they want. You think they'd have tolerance for Muslim or Jewish students?

by Anonymousreply 12September 7, 2020 4:04 PM

Yesterday morning Sunday Biden went to church, Trump went to play golf.

by Anonymousreply 13September 7, 2020 4:14 PM

Evangelicals and other Deplorables don't pray to and worship God. They pray to and worship a graven image: the American flag.

by Anonymousreply 14September 7, 2020 4:17 PM

including a return to Las & Order. = a return to when blacks, hispanics and uppity women knew their places, gays stayed in invisible and the White Man had the final word on all things.

I think R8 is spot on, but "law and order" in evangelical terms just required further definition

by Anonymousreply 15September 7, 2020 5:06 PM

Even evangelicals know what they practice is bullshit.

They just want political power

by Anonymousreply 16September 7, 2020 10:03 PM

I saw a car today with a huge sign in the back window, so large no way they can use the rear view mirror, that said:

[quote]I stand for the flag --- I kneel for the cross.

Evangelicals are all such Karens.

I wish I could find the evangelical anti-Jehovah's witness baby's blood transfusion propaganda video online where the Jehovah's witnesses "kidnap" their own baby from the hospital and the evangelical "wise old black woman" responds to every question with "I'm so glad you asked that!"

"My baby's about to die and my husband punched me in the face fifty times last night because I didn't want to kidnap the baby from the hospital! What do I do?"

"I'm SO GLAD you asked that!" *giant beaming smile*
