Cirrhosis of the liver

I have a friend who’s boyfriend is currently in the hospital with cirrhosis of the liver from alcoholism. He’s been an alcoholic off and on for around twenty years and he’s forty two. I guess I’m quarantine he started binge drinking again and was blacking out so my friend brought him to the hospital. He was in I I for a few days but is now out. My friend is optimistic and of course I’m glad and I’m hoping for the best but realistically can his boyfriend come back from this and lead a healthy life? I’m keeping mouth with him and will be prepared to be there for him no matter what happens.

Working from home during COVID is the death knell for many substance abusers. My sister has been a "secrete" drinker for twenty years. When she had to get up, get dressed and drive into the office at least she had eight hours booze free. For the last six months she sits in her bedroom at her desk on her laptop with her "coffee cup" full of vodka. Yesterday she froze in the middle of a Skype conference call. If she doesn't get back to the office the drinking will kill her before the COVID.

My biological grandfather died of this at 36.

Don't get too attached.

OP Google WKS syndrome. If the cirrhosis doesn't get him this will.

OP, you're prepared to be there for whom, your friend or the boyfriend? Possibly, your friend is an enabler. I would not get too involved with either of them. You risk becoming an enabler yourself. These two need professional help.
