I started crying during the opening monologue. My sinuses are killing me today from crying and my eyes hurt. I always forget how sad it is and rewatch it every 5 years or so and this happens. It also struck me how beautiful many Chinese women are. Russell Wong is hot as fuck too.
So I watched The Joy Luck Club last night

Too easy and lazy, R2.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 5, 2020 4:29 PM |
It’s a really good movie, I’ve rewatched a few times too. Yes I’m a basic bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 5, 2020 4:33 PM |
I never saw it.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 5, 2020 4:36 PM |
Too many old ladies gabbing, not my cuppa tea. I prefer young men dabbling in hot unsafe sex.

Harumph!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 5, 2020 4:49 PM |
Great movie! Very sad. Back when impoverished immigrants could afford homes in San Francisco
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 5, 2020 4:54 PM |
When will we see the all-black remake?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 5, 2020 5:33 PM |
I love this movie. I can't wait until the trans remake.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 5, 2020 5:39 PM |
The Russell "Sumting" Wong?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 5, 2020 5:41 PM |
R10
Datalounge, where a thread about literally anything can and likely will diverge into complaining about trans people...
Topic: "What do y'all think about trigonometry?"
A few replies in: "I don't care, but trannies will probably try to co-opt it!"
O_o
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 5, 2020 5:47 PM |
I love that movie too, OP. The ending always makes me bawl like a baby.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 5, 2020 5:56 PM |
R12 either that or Meghan Markle.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 5, 2020 5:58 PM |
This movie really is such a tearjerker. Best quality.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 12, 2020 6:38 AM |
Where is Russell and his wong now? Still hot or not?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 12, 2020 6:44 AM |
Only good for peanut butter pie. Who else eat?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 12, 2020 6:45 AM |
It is no Eat Drink Man Woman.

R13 why does the mother take one tiny piece of meat at a time out of the serving dish? Unsanitary and tacky.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 12, 2020 7:17 AM |
You have best heart....❤️
I always find this mother as quintessentially Asian. Her daughter did not realize how much her mother loved her. She must have had too much pride to engage in what in Asian culture is seen as WEAKNESS.

I was a sucker for the book, I'll admit. The movie didn't do much for me. Wonder if it would be better on a rewatch.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 12, 2020 9:27 AM |
Couldn't get further than 10 minutes into it. This movie is strictly for fraus (and for gays with bad movie taste, apparently).
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 12, 2020 9:45 AM |
Enjoy " Fast and Furious." R25?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 12, 2020 12:29 PM |
R26 Never saw it. I'm too busy watching arthouse masterpieces from all around the globe to care for Hollywood crap like The Joy Luck Club and those car racing films.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 12, 2020 12:41 PM |
Are you Lainey Gossip?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 12, 2020 1:20 PM |
Perhaps the pron version, THE JOY FUCK CLUB, would be more your speed?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 12, 2020 1:23 PM |
R27 is also the guy who "only watches PBS," because anything else is beneath him. A first-class phony.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 12, 2020 1:33 PM |
So, what would make you start a sentence with 'so?'
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 12, 2020 1:36 PM |
My late mother loved it. She had a great life, so it wasn’t like she id’d with the characters.
“Full box of Kleenex” movie, in her words, because it was empty by the time the movie ended

Back when China was still viewed as a country of wise, creative people. Now it's all viruses and knock-offs
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 12, 2020 1:57 PM |
As is the USA.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 12, 2020 1:59 PM |
I won't argue with you there, R34
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 12, 2020 1:59 PM |
The Asian mom in this video is a WAY better actress than any of those on the Joy Luck Club...
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 12, 2020 2:11 PM |
She's, uh, /dark/.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 12, 2020 2:28 PM |
You're a dog fart, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 12, 2020 2:29 PM |
I love it -- long time.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 12, 2020 2:31 PM |
R36 The Hot Chick should be a DL classic.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 12, 2020 3:02 PM |
R37, she's a mix including Hispanic. Quit acting and is in now in real estate and total "earth mother" type.

Fun fact, in the actual novel, the prodigy boy her mother mentions and compares her to is my father. He's in, "Ripley's Believe it Or Not" as a child prodigy.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 12, 2020 4:28 PM |
Saw it when it came out with my taiwanese female friend, a weep fest! Andrew mcCarthy looked good though.,
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 12, 2020 4:29 PM |
Russell Wong & Ming-Na Wen on As The World Turns years before they were in the movie "Joy Luck Club"
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 12, 2020 4:31 PM |
R25 your heart is cold from too many hook ups probably, slut.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 12, 2020 5:34 PM |
Half of the cast was Japanese...
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 13, 2020 11:12 PM |
This movie makes me sob
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 13, 2020 11:31 PM |
I saw this movie with my husband on our first date 27 years ago. We both discovered that we were the kind of guys who cried at movies. I know...MARY!
