We are Birds of Paradise, OP!
There are many species of birds of paradise, but in all those species the males have flamboyant plumage and make outrageous public displays, and the females are dowdy and practical and get on with things.

Maybe peacocks are what made me gay. Our neighbor had 2 peacocks and 1 peahen that roamed free in their walled in back garden. I woke up most every morning to those birds screaming to the heavens You could hear them for several blocks.

I saw those Cock of the Rocks at the San Diego Zoo. The noise they make is ungodly. I'll take a screaming nelly peacock over that shriek any day!
