The Crown and Princess Margaret

Am I the only one who finds Margaret’s importance overstated especially in Season 3? Didn’t she get increasingly irrelevant through the years?

Hopefully, they show her feet burning off in the tub next season.

She was always irrelevant unless you count her being the spare while she and her sister were young. If the Germans had bombed Windsor Castle and Princess Elizabeth had died, Queen Margaret with her husband Peter Townsend would be monarch.

Helena Bonham Carter plays the same character in everything she does. It's so played out at this point.

Helena Bonham-Carter is totally miscast as Margaret.

Agreed. I really miss Vanessa Kirby's portrayal. HBC is really annoying.

For what’s it worth, Lady Glenconner says HBC is the most accurate Margaret so far. Granted she’s a major league sycophant.

Margaret was beautiful when young, she was erratic, boozey, bitchy, tragic, yes she was increasingly irrelevant, but her story makes great television. And that's all they care about.

Did Margaret have any real friends?

by Anonymousreply 8September 1, 2020 5:55 AM

The point iofthe show is not about who is relevant to YOU, OP, or even to who is most relevant to the British people today. As Peter Morgan (the show's creator and runner) has explained in interviews multiple times, the show is about the queen and about who has been closest to her personally, and her sister Margaret was always her best friend throughout their lives together.

This is a show about Elizabeth II. The most important people in her life after her father died were Margaret, Philip, and her mother. That's why they get the most attention on the show after the Queen does. We even get a fair amount of the Earl of Caernarvon (or "Porchey") because he was the queen's best friend outside of her family.

Margaret's best friend was her sister, r8, just as she was her sister's best friend.

Lady Glenconner’s book was a snore.
