Any eldergays familiar with this disco style, which was almost dead until it got taken up by energetic fans on IG and TikTok?
Sure I remember those moves. But they're even older than my clubbing years!

R1 What were the moves in your clubbing years?

I’m shocked anyone dances anymore. All the clubs are closed.

looks like voguing

I believe Grace Jones invented, or at least perfected, that style.
Also, I'm pretty sure I saw the pink-dress woman's cooch. The NYT has really fallen, hasn't it?

The NYT is wack.

I hated it back in the day. Takes up alot of space on the dance floor and drives other dances off the floor.

We used to call it the "collateral damage" because if you are near, you will most likely be injured.

I remember Diana Ross’s brother and a bunch of other fellow backup dancers rollerskating to those moves near the end of her HBO 1979 TV special put of Caesar’s Palace

Someone find some video showing these moves from the actual 70s.

It's rude, egotistical dancing on a dance floor. It's all about me, me, me. Of course it's making a comeback today.

Looks like fun. As R4 said, it looks like voguing. I'm 57, so I wasn't going clubbing in the 1970s, but I do remember the backlash against disco. Much of it was racist and anti-gay.

"whacking" other people in the head with flailing limbs in order to transform a shared dance floor into a solo stage...

R2 my clubbing started with punk-new wave and then the "discos" of early to mid 80s. The first notable dance I learned was the Peppermint Lounge and Mudd Club twirl. It was a shuffling of the feet and wiggle of the body but in place and there was sort of pogo up and down movement of the body. I dunno if it had a name. Anyone?

There was an old dude who used to take up half the floor in the first hour or two at Roxy in Saturday nights in the 90s. Was ridiculous and fascinating to watch while your pill kicked in.

Fewer people in the clubs, more room for waacking.
