by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 31, 2020 1:48 AM |
At age 20 he's way too young to get engaged and ultimately married. But strict religious people do this to their kids and try to control them for life. I have seen this in my own family and it's like the kids never leave the nest - always reporting home to Mom and Dad. It's unhealthy because they're not really allowed to grow and change on their own.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 31, 2020 1:49 AM |
R27, and rightly so. Left to his own devices, he might devour many cocks and after a decade or two, marry... A MAN!!!

Imagine the level of denial, when your own mother (as a co-host of the View) has spoken out against gay rights in the name of the religion. Having grown up in Hollywood, Candace would have seen enough gay men to have a pretty good gaydar.
Like R27 said, they marry their kids off at an early age, and then once the kids have a ball and chain and kids of their own, they feel obligated to maintain the facade.

I always wondered if Kirk was a self-hating gay/bi guy. I'm sure he was hit on by plenty of older gay guys when he was starring in Growing Pains. His obsession with what his female costars like posing for Playboy were doing too seemed ridiculous like he was overcompensating.

[quote] I'll give Candace some credit for not being as obnoxious as her brother about her cult evangelicalism
[quote] but this bitch has to know her son is a butt pirate and she about to let this happen.
I think that the two things are related.
Candace has no choice but to tamp down on her criticism of gay people, because I'm sure that deep down in her heart, she knows he's gay.
Much like Aaron Schock, everyone knows very well that he's gay. Maybe he does too, or maybe he doesn't realize it yet. But he will.
And when he eventually does come out, much like Aaron Schock, he'll be sticking his hands down the pants of some rando at Coachella. Then jet setting to Mexico for some cock.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 31, 2020 6:17 AM |

Is that "daddy" getting a tan in the background?
What do these people do all day? Live the good life off of Candace's money?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 31, 2020 6:24 AM |
My best friend from high school was a super religious fundie from one of those families, who had no problems with my gay ass but ... she still got married when she turned 18 to a 20 year old she had been dating for two years. (She even was able to rush through her senior year to graduate from high school sooner by taking night classes.)
However, she did it to get the hell away from her religious parents. Once she was married they felt like she could "leave."
Luckily, they're still married twenty years later and still great people without all of the craziness.
I doubt the boy would come out in that family if he was gay. He might be able to do it to Candace but I doubt anyone else would approve and he'd probably never put her in a position where he has to find out what she'd really do.

by Anonymous | reply 91 | August 31, 2020 2:07 PM |
Candace has enough money to send these kids to the best colleges around. (If their grades weren't up to snuff, Aunt Becky would have had some advice to get around that.) Did any of Candace's kids go to college? This boy's insta page makes it look like he just traveled around taking pics of himself modeling the latest stylish clothing.
It would be a shame if Candace had all that money and didn't encourage her kids to get an education. Of course, some christians avoid sending their kids to college for fear that they'll pick up more liberal beliefs. And of course, if the kid gets educated, he might want a career instead of living 10 miles away from mommy and daddy, dependent on them so that he can never leave them. And of course college and a career delays the pumping out of babies.

It sounds like they go to one of those churches that require a lot of tithing. It would be interesting to know how much of her money is tied up in Jesus. The real tragedy of this story is that kid was brought up in a cult and has been basically brainwashed, but because they "Xtian" no one cares.

Candace is gay friendly. Fuller House was a very gay positive show.

I think he goes to some small college where he plays hockey. Or used to? I remember the BFF sister being completely devastated he was moving out for college. She doesn’t go to school and is trying to be an actress. She still lives at home.
The Russian father seems very controlling and strict. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a bad temper.
A friend of mine worked at the view when Candace was a host and said she’s dumb as a rock. Like really f’ing stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | August 31, 2020 3:00 PM |
[italic]Full House[/italic] was and is stupid, unfunny, mind-numbing shit and the sequel was even worse. How can anybody gay like it? Yes, I was a child when it was on the air and even then I thought it was poorly written and acted and its producers were tasteless creepy hacks who know nothing about how children behave in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | August 31, 2020 3:12 PM |
R102 It's not a surprise the Olsens didn't return. They knew they were basically trained chimps that mimed overly cutesy lines and they are probably embarrassed of all those children's and teen movies they did. But also they are filthy rich so they don't need to return. Even Elizabeth Olsen has a bigger career than the cast of Full House combined hence she refused to play Michelle in her sisters place.

The original show was pretty homophobic. Even in the Disney world episode, Jesse said “Superman was a wimp. He wore his underwear on the other side of his tights,” followed by an approving laugh track. In this case, “wimp” is a dog whistle that means f@g.

Absolutely. It's only the religious fanatics (of any religion) who approve of kids getting married that young. Everybody else thinks it's insane.

I wonder if they kept the show running would they have just fired Kirk like they would have done with Robert Reed if The Brady Bunch continued.

Growing Pains didn't age well honestly. It really is the white Cosby Show or less socially relevant version of Family Ties. That's why Growing Pains isn't in syndication just like Who's The Boss and Hogan Family isn't. Full House though is basically the Brady Bunch of today, Millennials and Gen Z were raised on it thanks to reruns being forced down our throats.

by Anonymous | reply 182 | September 5, 2020 3:05 AM |
R182 Yep. I didn't watch it while it was actually airing on ABC but it aired in reruns galore on TBS, ABC Family and Nickelodeon nonstop which kept it popular way past it's prime. Also the Olsen twins being teen idols and their drug and eating disorders being on tabloids also helped keep the show in public consciousness for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | September 5, 2020 3:08 AM |
R182: It still was dumber than dirt, even by my standards. [italic]Silver Spoons[/italic] may not have been Shakespeare, but at least the people who made that show seemed to know the difference.
And other than [italic]The Brady Bunch[/italic], which time has vindicated by default because of how many shows over the past 50 years are so much worse, the only shows on R179's list I would ever watch today are [italic]Family Ties[/italic] and maybe [italic]Valerie[/italic] if nothing else was on.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | September 5, 2020 3:11 AM |
R184 Family Ties and The Cosby Show are the only sitcom of the 80s family-friendly that I find watchable. Silver Spoons from the episodes I found online is surprisingly racy for a family show with a sometimes dark sense of humor that is funny ( I think the writers for Married with Children worked on it).
by Anonymous | reply 185 | September 5, 2020 3:17 AM |
All of those 80s family sitcoms were pure shit. Family Ties, Growing Pains, Mr. Belvedere, Different Strokes, Webster etc. As a kid I watched them all but in my adult life when I've caught a rerun I couldn't watch for more than two minutes. God, they were dreck. Even the Cosby Show is unwatchable today. Offhand, Cheers, The Jeffersons and the Golden Girls were the only 80s sitcoms that are still watchable and funny today. Maybe there are one or two others.
The 80s really were the nadir of television.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | September 5, 2020 3:18 AM |
For some reason 90s family shows like Step by Step, Fresh Prince, Boy Meets World and Sabrina don't bother me. Maybe because the writing was much punchier and self-aware on those shows. Family Matters aged poorly though and Urkel is annoying to watch as an adult. Saved by the Bell was pure camp and cheese though.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | September 5, 2020 3:20 AM |
Leo Dicaprio was only brought in because Jeremy Miller turned out to be a real fuggo teenager (he looked like the bastard child of Barry Manilow, if Barry had ever gone anywhere near pussy) and they couldn't use him to draw in the teen girl audience that was the bread and butter for the show.

Whether you agree with his politics or not, Norman Lear enabled more bad TV than any acclaimed producer in history. Most modern TV is going to age like milk. The 1990s shows are already starting to show their age. Any one of the 1980s shows you mentioned is better than [italic]Friends[/italic], if only by default. That is THE worst TV show ever. [italic]Full House[/italic] is almost as bad for the same reasons, and I can't believe any grown adult would watch [italic]Saved by the Bell[/italic] as that was unfunny and stupid schlock even when I was a kid, and proved an NBC sitcom could suck as badly as the worst of ABC's and that a mixed-race show could suck as much as the worst all-white ones. And it sickens me to see people slobber over an overrated and frankly kind of creepy show like [italic]Malcolm in the Middle[/italic], especially when it stole a time slot from a great, adult-centric cartoon: [italic]Futurama[/italic].

Friends and Full House both are still popular with young people for whatever reason. I'm shocked to see very young people talk about watching Friends on Netflix. It blows my mind because that show is not funny at all. I don't need to explain Full House as that is a show for children and people who are nostalgic. But people really say Seinfeld, Frasier and King of Queens are overrated but they are much funnier than Friends. Everybody Loves Raymond is another show I find very annoying to watch same with According to Jim and Big Bang Theory yet all lasted extremely long. Actually, I think it's safe to say most sitcoms aren't good especially ones that run forever on networks like CBS. Very few sitcoms could be considered great entertainment. I used to watch reruns of Leave It To Beaver and Andy Griffith on TV Land as a kid but even I don't think I could watch that today.

The three characters in Friends were NY Jews of the upper class, they wouldn't be religious or overly observant. But honestly, only Ross is a character that fits the Jewish stereotype. Full House had a whole episode where they went to Greece. John Stamos likely asked the writers to retcon his character to be Greek. They changed his last name to Katsopolis in season two. Danny though it wasn't clear if he was Jewish like Bob Saget. Also all the girls on Full House looked neither typically Greek or Jewish which kinda implies that Uncle Jesse probably wasn't intended to Greek at first.

Why would characters need to reference their religious or racial background all the time? Most people don't obsess over this in everyday life outside of certain situations. Rugrats, a cartoon, had a few episodes about Jewish customs but never shoved it down throats they were Jewish but they certainly didn't hide it either which made it much more progressive in hindsight. Everybody's Love Raymond had an episode where they went to Italy and it's clear they are Italian but it isn't referenced every single episode. Same with The Cosby Show, Family Matters and George Lopez, they were black and Hispanic respectively and acknowledged it from time to time (like those obligatory racism PSA episodes) but it wasn't the point of those shows.

I think that unlike hardcore Christians, Jews aren't really interested in spreading their faith and don't care that much about what others do in their personal life. Many Jewish songwriters wrote Christmas songs and worked on Christian-themed entertainment because it was a job. Michael Landon was Jewish and did Highway to Heaven. LA and NY have a high Jewish population, so it make sense many would be in the entertainment industry and may play end up in non-Jewish roles. I agree that there isn't as much fictional blatant Jewish representation in the media though. There is a lot of ambiguously Jewish characters where they deploy Jewish mannerisms and humor but still sorta pass for "white"/"gentile" to the untrained eye. Friends and Seinfeld both fall under that ambiguity honestly because they feel more like shows with characters that happen to be Jewish rather than purely tied to their identities. Rugrats, The Nanny, An American Tail and that Hanukkah episode of Even Stevens are the most blatant Jewish representation that I remember as a kid.

You've got to be kidding.
I've learned everything I know about Jewish Americans, from "Seinfeld." Most of the things on that show, I've never seen before.
From the overbearing Jewish parents, to the little sayings, to the foods, to the traditions. Everything in Seinfeld's show had to do with his being Jewish, some in overt ways, and some in subtle ways.

Seinfeld does reference Judaism and a lot of the writing and humor is clearly from an American Jewish perspective. But only Jerry is officially established as Jewish while the others characters are either gentile (Elaine and Kramer) or ambiguous (George is technically Italian but his family fits the Jewish stereotypes) however they all are based on Jewish people that Larry David grew up with.
But it's still just a sitcom about living in NYC and honestly can relate to many groups of people in the city. It is clearly made for a mainstream audience and it worked as it became the one of the highest rated sitcoms for a while. I don't remember it ever going in great detail on Judaism or its core values (which is obviously not to alienate its non-Jewish viewers). I think most people know Jerry Seinfeld is Jewish but it really isn't something the viewer would think that much about anyway. Also a lot of Jewish slang has become mainstream NYC slang just like a lot of black and Hispanic slang has too.

R250 The writers for That '70s Show wanted to make Buddy (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) a recurring character on the show but they feared the homophobic backlash since Buddy was openly gay and kissed Eric in his debut episode (which I believe was the first male-on-male kiss on network TV). That was the late 90s too. Though Will & Grace debuted the same time as That '70s Show.

Getting a bit back on topic. Full House barely seemed like San Francisco either. And that big house Danny afforded made little sense on his talk show host salary with not only three daughters to feed but two male friends who were always in between work also. I guess he got insurance money from his wife's death. Also when Uncle Jesse and Becky decided to live in the house and raise their twins there. It got even more ridiculous.

R267 I don't think they were cute at all as little kids and kinda creepy. But also I think they were developed into fine comedic actresses when they got older in stuff like Two of a Kind and grew into their looks for that brief time in the early 2000s before the eating disorders and drugs.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | September 5, 2020 6:01 AM |
Candace also grew into her looks over the course of Full House. She was rather homely as a young girl when the show started but grew really pretty by the later seasons. Jodie also looked really good for a drug addict in the 2000s.

Michelle was young enough when the show ended that they could have recasted anyone to play her as an adult on Fuller House. They recast on sitcoms all the time like the little sister on Boy Meets World and Becky on Roseanne.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | September 5, 2020 6:19 AM |
R278 that was on their original runs. Not the revivals. The whole point of the revival is to see all the original cast members at it again. Recasting Michelle defeats the purpose

After ABC cancelled it, Full House would have continued on The WB and they were filming a 9th season but they couldn't get the whole cast to sign new contracts, so they decided to axe it. John Stamos apparently didn't like the idea of Full House being a lesser known network thinking it would fail. Ironic since Sister, Sister moved to The WB and had success there and The WB did grow to become more successful over time.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | September 5, 2020 6:33 AM |
Yes, it’s known Full House was supposed to have a 9th season without Candace Cameron, who was going to college. She would pop in and out during holidays etc.
I believe Lori Loughlin wanted out too, which would have been weird if they did continue without her.
John Stamos did not like the idea of them being on WB and would rather the show be canned for good than move there.
I believe ABC canceled it because they were becoming too expensive while the ratings dropped.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | September 5, 2020 6:38 AM |
Also, it ended honestly at the right time because the Olsen twins were getting too old to be switched around (they aren't even identical and it's obvious) and Michelle's bratty antics wouldn't have been as endearing as she was nearing her preteen years. She got way more annoying with each season. Apparently Candace was going to be written off as going away to college. Nicky and Alex probably would have been the source of the bratty but cute antics. And I guess Michelle would have taken Stephanie's role as the moody middle child and Stephanie take DJ's role as a typical whiny teen.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | September 5, 2020 6:40 AM |
Michelle was always gonna be a brat. Even while older. My friends (now as adults) call her Moochelle and say she would still be living off her dad in real life.
Candace herself was going to college. That is why the character was going to college. She agreed to do a handful of episodes, like Holiday episodes etc.

The WB's first big hit was 7th Heaven but I imagine if Full House did air there with good promo, it would have been a hit too. The WB was never really a uber-wholesome family-friendly network honestly (with 7th Heaven and Kids WB being the outliers). Full House probably wouldn't have fit with Unhappily Ever After, The Parent 'Hood and Wayan Bros. And when Buffy and Dawson's Creek came around definitely not.

by Anonymous | reply 293 | September 5, 2020 6:53 AM |
Full House's first season was a lot more adult-oriented than what preceded. It was basically Three Men and a Baby the sitcom. Then once the producers realized that kids were watching more than adults, they decided to shift the focus to the kids and then once Michelle started talking, it became the Michelle Tanner Show featuring Jesse, Danny, DJ, Stephanie, Joey and Becky. That's why they turned Jesse from being a shameless manwhore in season one to settling down with Becky early on.
This happens a lot like in Family Matters (which became The Urkel Show featuring Laura and Eddie), Step by Step (which became the Dana and Cody show) and Home Improvement (which became the JTT show). All these shows start out being more focused on the parents and whole family unit to just focusing on the antics of the kids.

Mary-Kate and Ashley worked from being infants to the age 18 in the entertainment industry. Then went to college and worked in the fashion industry nonstop. R299 Correction. The Olsen parents were savvy enough to realize that their daughters were popular and hired a team that capitalized on that. The parents didn't do the work themselves, they just found the right people and got out of the way for the checks to roll in.

by Anonymous | reply 304 | September 5, 2020 7:11 AM |
It's funny the Olsen parents were so greedy despite being already upper-class Angelenos. Their dad was a realtor and banker and their mom was a manager. It just seems weird they overworked their twin daughters like that when they could have just let them be on that sitcom and do a few movies here and there. Even other child stars like Elijah Wood, Raven-Symone and Scarlett Johansson didn't seem that overworked. Even the Sprouse Twins who are their male counterparts were allowed to take breaks by their parents.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | September 5, 2020 7:12 AM |
Well, unlike those other kid stars, the Olsen girls were worth hundreds of millions by the time they were 18. So that is why their parents did it.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | September 5, 2020 7:17 AM |
Yes, let's not let our children have a real childhood and develop normal social skills just so they can be filthy rich at 18. Never mind the fact they developed eating disorders and drug abuse problems and have all those years of trauma from working long hours since infancy.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | September 5, 2020 7:19 AM |
I don't think that they worked constantly. Hell, they attended a normal school. It's just that the MaryKate and Ashley Machine (the publicists, etc) worked constantly.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | September 5, 2020 7:23 AM |
You forgot that apart from working on three sitcoms, Full House, Two of a Kind and So Little Time, they were also filming tons of movies and tons of direct-to-VHS tapes and doing promotional work like cruise ships and guest appearances on other TV shows at the same time. The fact they were twins is what gave leeway with child labor laws to work them harder than normal. For a young developing mind that is a lot of pressure and a lot of work to do. Especially when they were in the limelight and didn't have much privacy. It got worse when they became teenagers and became more self-conscious. Also, their parents were well-to-do already which makes it a bit ridiculous they wanted their twins to be millionaires. Just having more than enough money to live comfortably enough to be happy not having millions and millions.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | September 5, 2020 7:31 AM |
The shows were concurrent, not at the same time. I think they definitely worked consistently. But hell, look what happened to Jodie Sweetin's life. I don't think they'd want to switch with her. Or Candace's
by Anonymous | reply 310 | September 5, 2020 7:36 AM |
I read an interview with Cole Sprouse and he mentioned how he felt like he had no normal childhood and that's why he is so eccentric. He and his brother went to NYU and chose to live on the dorms just to understand being normal teenagers but he never blamed his parents. I imagine Mary-Kate and Ashley felt that way too. MK and A said their parents were loving and never forced them too much. But honestly a lot of children want to please their parents and tell themselves that.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | September 5, 2020 7:40 AM |
The Mowry Twins are what Mary-Kate and Ashley could have been. Healthy and well-adjusted adults. Sure Sister, Sister isn't as remembered as Full House but Tia and Tamera seem genuinely happy.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | September 5, 2020 7:47 AM |
R312 Cute idea but it flopped. Dylan and Cole did work in the entertainment field as infants and toddlers like the Olsens in stuff like Grace Under Fire, Friends and Big Daddy but they weren't household names then. The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was successful but the idea of marketing cute blonde male twins to tweens didn't work. Boys aren't going to buy merchandise of them and girls may find them cute but they aren't relatable to them like teen girl idols say Hilary, Raven, Lindsay or the Olsens which tween girls actually bought tons of merch of.
by Anonymous | reply 314 | September 5, 2020 7:52 AM |
And I guess Cole is Mary-Kate being the more alternative one (even dyed his hair black) and Dylan is Ashley being the more down-to-earth one. Interestingly, their TV/film roles were a bit reversed with Cole and Ashley playing the meek/fem ones and Dylan and Mary-Kate playing the bad-ass/tough ones.

Everything points to Malcolm in the Middle, especially the bit about the dad becoming famous for a later show. Also, the post was written 4 years ago and at that time the person said the series had been off for 10 years. Malcolm in the Middle ended in 2006. This is the Reddit post that people connected to Step by Step. As the child actor mentions turning from a cute kid to a fat kid which prevented more abuse but fucked up his self-esteem and also the network settled with the kids of the cast to keep their mouths shut about the abuse. Then he mentioned how the adult actors didn't care, the actor who played the dad (possibly Duffy) was fucking the girls who played the daughters and the mom actress (Somers) turned a blind eye and even said "you all wanted to be on the show". Then his parents stole all his money. Josh Byrne fits that description, he left the show before the 7th season and his career went absolutely nowhere.

by Anonymous | reply 360 | September 6, 2020 12:53 AM |
The only other male Disney star besides Orlando who went crazy is Shia LaBeouf but he wasn't really working in anything prior to Even Stevens which was a few years after Step by Step ended.

by Anonymous | reply 364 | September 6, 2020 4:06 AM |
He’s probably gaslighting his parents, who don’t want the problem of a gay son. They think he wants to nail that pussy but God won’t let him unless he’s married to it.
Once he’s out from under his mommy’s watchful eye, he can get some cock and his poor new wife can’t say shit, because he’s the head of the family and he’s the boss.
by Anonymous | reply 366 | September 6, 2020 9:48 AM |
That's not entirely true, R29.
by Anonymous | reply 367 | September 6, 2020 12:13 PM |
You old boring people are so out of touch with today’s youth, it’s scary.
The way he is is how many straight white guys are these days, especially from upper class families.
Also, he comes from a rich family. You all speak of Candace and her husband as poor. He’s a rich hockey player and she made her own money.
by Anonymous | reply 368 | September 6, 2020 12:22 PM |
Given how dark everything seems now, I can definitely see a revival of 80s/90s style sitcoms as a form of escapism. The success of Fuller House and the new Roseanne (now The Connors) proved there is a market for it. They should try to do a new Perfect Strangers

We've gotta live one @R368.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | September 6, 2020 2:58 PM |
R358 I don't think everyone in Hollywood is a predator and I don't think every child or young actor has been sexually exploited. I think it's more we hear about the most extreme cases and it makes it sense more common than it actually is.
What I do think is that there is a good ol' boys type club where older men protect each other and cover up their crimes including molestations, rape, murder, hate crimes, theft, etc etc. Like "I cover your ass, you cover my ass" type of thing. It's in every industry where their powers over others involved like government, churches, sports, prison, academia, etc.
There are definitely parents who see their child as a meal ticket and will turn a blind eye to whatever abuse they are dealing with in order to ensure an income. Not too different from how some wives/mothers will ignore or tolerate abuse in their households due to needing their husband's income to survive. Of course, doesn't really justify shitty parents but people really are desperate or greedy.

He has a terminal case of gayface and straight white guys from upper class families don't dress that faggy.

Rich straight guys who dress like that think they're very stylish and trendy.
And we are not laughing at them, we're just smiling hugely with them!

According to a blind gossip item. Candace put him into a conversion therapy program, and he now claims to be "cured." Hence the engagement at such a young age.

One thing about Candace, she still looks really young. Totally blends in with her kids, and sometimes I can't tell that she's the parent.
The daughter looks totally unrelated to the rest of the family.
