Weird Wikipedia entries

This was inspired by comments in the "Scrubbed from the internet" thread.

One of the weirdest entries I've come across is that of actress Maria Pitillo. She has an detailed Wikipedia page that I she wrote herself, until I realized that there are several bits where the author admits to not being sure about certain things regarding Pitillo's career, that she would know if it were here. Whoever wrote it also uses weirdly formal language and makes odd word choices.

So, what odd things have you guys found on Wikipedia?

Great idea for a thread, OP

Here's one: a few years ago, I heard an art historian give a talk at a conference. She was only a PhD candidate but I was very impressed with her ideas and scholarship and decided to Google her.

Well, she is certainly one for self-promotion, let's say. I realized that she had a Wikipedia page that would periodically get removed for failing to meet the standard of "notable persons" or whatever they call it.

In the "talk" page, the person who kept removing it -- an annoyed colleague, I'd say, probably a fellow grad student -- wrote snarkily: "One day she may be a prominent art historian. But she's certainly not there yet."

Haha r3. Edit wars on Wikipedia are always entertaining to read.

I see absolutely nothing strange in OP's link. Just an ordinary, if detailed, Wikipedia page. Where's the problem?

You know you can go at the bottom to the “Last edited __ days ago by _______ “ and pull up the page the history. It will show the date it was edited and the editor and you can quickly see if it was the same person editing the whole time or various editor. There is then a whole host of information that can the gleaned from these entries about why changes were made.

DL fave "American Beauty" has an unusually long but very interesting entry.

Don't know if this counts but a few years ago a guy named Kevin James (not the actor) ran for mayor of Los Angeles. The current mayor Garcetti has been getting a lot of heat recently with protesters outside his mansion and a recall movement and it inspired me to start thinking about who will run for LA mayor next.

I went to Kevin James' wiki page and at the end of the brief entry there was a link to his website that sent you to a porn page. I deleted the link and called a friend that knows him so they could make him aware.

That's it, that's all I got.
