Continuing from my post at R54... I only now watched the trailer and tbh I'm not impressed. Denis Villeneuve makes beautiful films that I describe with two words: Bland posing. Unfortunately this film seems to be the same. I certainly hope that's not the case since I remember loving the novels in my teens but I'm not expecting much.

BTW, all the familiar faces took me instantly off the film's story. That tells of a trailer so skin deep that it can't even sell its own story.

Chalamet is charming and a good actor but sexually and romantically he leaves me completely cold. I assume it was my non-masculinity that made them react so powerfully. I assume it's partly the same with Chalamet and people are attracted to his non-threatening non-masculinity, besides being awed by acting skills.

BTW, I'm an artist and occasionally do traditional style portrait painting. There's no denying he's got an interesting face. It's sort of beautiful in its symmetry, but then at the same time not. In my earlier post I mentioned chuckling at people saying he looks like a wet rat and there's definitely some truth to that expression.

Having seen the trailer, I must admit that I'm more impressed than I expected to be. Of course it's visually spectacular, and with Zimmer working on it the music will be amazing. At the start of the events of Dune, Paul is 15 and the heir to an entire planet. His family is wealthy and powerful to a degree that we can't really grasp - his father is viewed by many as the likely heir to a galactic empire. He's been trained more or less since birth in athletics and the arts of combat by his father's most trusted men. His mother taught him at least some of the Bene Gesserit ways, perfect control of his body, superhuman speed and reflexes. He's the Crown Prince of the Universe, basically, so he's just a bit arrogant and spoiled.

Chalamet can certainly look the part at the start of the movie, the practical question I have is how well will he be able to play the role of "toughening up"? Jason Momoa plays Duncan Idaho, Paul's primary fighting instructor, and he looks like he could dip Timmy in ranch dressing and swallow him in one gulp.

I don't have a single problem with Timmy, only with the cult of twits that seems to have sprung up around him. I hope he does well and that the movie is an amazing success.
