Hey Californians! Tell Gavin Newsom to put Congressperson Katie Porter into Kamala Harris' Senate seat!
It only takes a minute to fill in the form then leave a message. Two sentences will do!
I wrote a few short paragraphs, but blah blah, that's me!
It's easy, but if you think it's hard, I can come back and post a brief message that you can copy & paste into the form. Other participants can post their messages for people to use as templates, too.
Katie Porter is great, and I look forward to her grilling, and hopefully, leading the charge for prosecution of all the grifters & swindlers who've been plundering this country for the last 4 years!

I can't get real excited about someone who spent too much of her time grilling the Postmaster General about the price of a postcard stamp in order to show how unqualified he is. I suspect that Ben Franklin himself might not have known the answer to that question, because who does?

r4 he should know that information. Are you crazy? She asked how much a stamp costs, not the formula for calculated the cost for sending packages. He didn't think it was important, even though that's a softball question. Do you think Steve Jobs didn't know the price of an iPod or that Bill Gates didn't know the price of purchasing a Microsoft suite for a home computer? When you care, you make it your business to know those things. They aren't selling a billion different types of services at the USPS so it's not a left-field question.

R37 No. The Vice President if also the "President of the Senate" and this is how that works.
[quote] Have you ever watched the Senate during a very close vote? If so, you may have seen the vice president sitting or standing at the presiding officer's desk on the Senate Floor. Other than to succeed to the presidency upon the death or resignation of a president, a vice president's only constitutional duty is to preside over the Senate. Vice presidents cannot vote in the Senate, except to break a tie, nor may they formally address the Senate, except with the senators' permission.

The "Los Angeles Times" has also put Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia on its list.
[quote] Though Garcia is the new kid on the block in California politics, he is a plausible pick if Newsom wants a fresh face for the job.
[quote] Newsom and Garcia, 42, are said to be political allies. Newsom endorsed Garcia in his race for mayor in 2014, when he became the youngest, first Latino and first gay leader of Long Beach. And Garcia was an early backer of Newsom’s run for governor, a sign of loyalty that likely won’t be forgotten.
[quote] Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Garcia has been an outspoken supporter of the governor and the state’s handling of the crisis. Newsom offered his condolences to Garcia after the mayor’s mother, a Peruvian immigrant who brought him to the U.S. at age 5, and stepfather died of complications from COVID-19.
[quote] Garcia was also chosen as one of more than a dozen rising political stars to deliver a keynote address at the Democratic National Convention this year. When asked if they would support Garcia as the next U.S. senator from California, 57% of voters said yes in a recent poll conducted by the USC Schwarzenegger Institute.

[quote] I'd hate to lose it in two years.
R73 You could lose it sooner than that. If a congressperson vacates a seat, the governor does not get to name the replacement. A special election is called. That was learned that the hard way in the 25th district. The fight to turn that one blue was finally accomplished when democrat Katie Hill won the seat from Trumper Steve Knight back in 2016. But then we got Hill's sex scandal, and she had to resign. In the special election held earlier this year ((during lockdown), Trumper Mike Garcia won the seat back for something like nine months. Of course, that also allowed him to put himself on ballot as "the incumbent." We're still waiting on election results. Garcia currently leads democrat Christy Smith BY JUST104 VOTES. They're still sitting at 86.5% counted.

[quote] Robert Garcia and Matthew Sinclair Mendez were married Dec. 22 at First Congregational Church in Long Beach, Calif. The Rev. Elena Larson, a senior minister of the First Congregational Church of Long Beach, officiated.
[quote] Mr. Garcia (left), 42, is the mayor of Long Beach. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, from which he also received a Ph.D. in education. He also has a master’s degree in communication studies from the University of Southern California.

R87 R88 It's possible this "issue" with Garcia's age has something to do with when the articles were written/published, and the closeness to his actual birthday. The date on the NYT article has it printed December 23, 2018. At that point, Garcia had just turned 41 three weeks prior on December Dec. 2, 2018, so maybe someone got it wrong or added a year because 2018 was almost over? .. Anyway, the more recent L.A. Times article was printed November 7, 2020, so at that point, he actually was still 42, and just turned 43 five days ago.
