Mary Trump has a Ph.D. and she is a practicing psychologist. She is experienced in mental and behavioral disorders. It's considered unethical for mental health professionals to diagnose people who they don't know or who are not their patients/clients, but nevertheless, she has both the education and the clinical experience to recognize sociopaths and narcissists. And that seems to have been very much downplayed in media coverage.
