BTS ‘New Video Dynamite’ Breaks YouTube Record for Most-Viewed in First 24 Hours, With 101 Million Views

According to YouTube’s public views counter, the BTS “Dynamite” video had 98.3 million views in the 24 hours after it went live on Friday. However, YouTube on Sunday said the official view count for the video’s first 24 hours was actually 101.1 million, a goal BTS’s extraordinarily passionate fanbase (aka BTS Army) had been hoping to achieve.

“Dynamite,” the group’s first song entirely in English, hit the No. 1 trending spot on YouTube globally within 12 hours of its debut. The video also notched a record for most-viewed YouTube Premiere with more than 3 million live concurrent viewers, YouTube confirmed to Variety.

Wonder if any of them are gay?

BTS. The most exciting thing to happen since colonoscopies.

by Anonymousreply 1August 24, 2020 3:29 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 2August 24, 2020 3:31 PM

They kpop fans probably used bots to get that many views

by Anonymousreply 3August 24, 2020 3:31 PM

Korea managed to succeed in taking the manufactured pop idol formula of The US/UK/Japan and turned it into a colossal monster.

by Anonymousreply 4August 24, 2020 3:33 PM

They all dance like Michael Jackson.

by Anonymousreply 5August 24, 2020 3:42 PM

I like how anodyne it is: just cute, clean, and inoffensive. It's like the early 60s.

I like the Bowie and Beatles posters. That boy has good taste!

by Anonymousreply 9August 24, 2020 3:48 PM

Did either of them actually sing ANY of that "song"?

by Anonymousreply 10August 24, 2020 3:56 PM

Anybody notice how they changed the eye color of the boys? They gave them blue eyes. Shit is fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 11August 24, 2020 4:14 PM

R11, they change eye colors all the time. Same with hair. It's called a nation of neophiles

by Anonymousreply 12August 24, 2020 4:16 PM

Suga is the cutest member.

by Anonymousreply 13August 24, 2020 4:20 PM

Serious question.

Are the females or males? They are either a lesbian band who wear makeup or a very effeminate gay band. I just can't work out which one...

by Anonymousreply 14August 24, 2020 4:34 PM

I forgot to add - R9 is correct.

by Anonymousreply 15August 24, 2020 4:35 PM

R14, they're males. Neoteny makes the sexes look somewhat similar in East Asia, and flower boy styling adds to the feminine effect.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 16August 24, 2020 4:36 PM

R14, they look slightly more conventionally male without the styling.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 17August 24, 2020 4:37 PM

So they want the boys to look a bit female? That is intentional?

Sorry to be so stupid but why?

by Anonymousreply 18August 24, 2020 4:39 PM

ARE they R16?

So they are a gay band yes? Well, that's pretty cool that a gay band is so supported and popular in Asia.

by Anonymousreply 19August 24, 2020 4:40 PM

R18, you're not stupid: most in the West don't know about it. They style themselves to be appealing to East Asian girls, who like boys who are pretty. The biggest male beauty product industry is in South Korea - not per capita but rather in total spending.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 20August 24, 2020 4:42 PM

This video explains neoteny as applied to people better than the other one.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 21August 24, 2020 4:43 PM

West: all about trans; boys should become girls

East: boys should look pretty; there are two genders

I don't know. I kind of prefer the latter.

by Anonymousreply 22August 24, 2020 4:44 PM

This is a pretty good article about why they look like girls.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 23August 24, 2020 4:46 PM

I'm so confused. But thanks for trying to explain it to us OP.

So they are straight? And Asian girls like the way they look?

by Anonymousreply 24August 24, 2020 4:49 PM

R24, yes, it seems that the vast majority are straight. And yes, East Asian girls like the way they look.

by Anonymousreply 25August 24, 2020 4:50 PM

They stole their sound from "Uptown Funk."

Do women like these twee waifs because they seem so non-threatening and pliable?

by Anonymousreply 26August 24, 2020 4:52 PM

Some of them seem.... um, pretty gay R25. Flaming. You can see it from Mars level gay.

I got all excited thinking how cool it was for a gay band to be so popular in Asia. Now I feel deflated.

by Anonymousreply 27August 24, 2020 4:53 PM

Wonder if Asian females are more likely into girl on girl then since they are attracted to pretty faces because the way they style those boys there is a very faint line over to the female side of things.

by Anonymousreply 28August 24, 2020 5:03 PM

MICHAEL! The little Korean is here, and I don't know what to do with him. At least I think it's a him. You've got to strip them down to next to nothing before you could even tell!

by Anonymousreply 30August 25, 2020 1:33 AM

R30, probably V (Taehyung). This clip from Colbert became a TikTok challenge.

Looks like their song is set to debut at #1 in Billboard Hot100. Curious who are their US fans. Are they all tweeners?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 34August 30, 2020 6:16 PM

Kpop is the equivalent of pop idols/boy bands/girl groups in the US. Most adults and many legitimate music lovers in Korea are indifferent to or straight up hate kpop. The idol industry in Korea is extemely abusive and exploitative as well.

by Anonymousreply 35August 30, 2020 6:30 PM

R34, in the US it's referenced a lot in cartoons like We Bare Bears and Steven Universe, and it's mentioned on the Disney Channel and on Disney Radio. It's well-known among college-age kids, women in particular. I'd say its American core fan base is girls in their tweens up to women who are about maybe 25.

by Anonymousreply 36August 31, 2020 2:24 AM

R35, the abuse isn't really a thing anymore among the big companies, which are publicly traded and regulated. Things changed dramatically about five years ago or so. These days they're about as intense as Korean secondary education: very hard work, but no outright abuse anymore.

by Anonymousreply 37August 31, 2020 2:27 AM

Their fans are some of the nastiest pieces of shit. Take a look at the replies and retweets on this tweet from Now United member Bailey May after he congratulated them for winning Best Group at the VMA's.

Also, can anyone name a single song of theirs? I can't. Shows how much longevity they are going to have....none.

All the boys in BTS are rumored to had some degree or another of plastic surgery. RM is the only to admit it although he claims it wasn't for cosmetic reasons.

by Anonymousreply 45September 1, 2020 10:58 AM

It was their first English-language song I think. I'm surprised they didn't get it done in time for an early June release, that could have easily been song of the summer on Billboard.

by Anonymousreply 46September 1, 2020 11:03 AM

Are they transitioning into a girl band, STB, in the near future?

Vox analysis of who they are, how they got here.

They really did start from nothing. You should see their first dorm.

Fans think they're attractive not just for their looks, which really aren't that great, but because of their personalities and history. They're quite loveable to some.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 49September 1, 2020 1:37 PM

They really worked hard and dealt with a lot of challenges, and they were humble and hopeful throughout. That's why people love them.

[quote] Aside from that, BTS fans are becoming more diverse when it comes to age. In 2018, almost 50% of BTS fans were females between the ages of 18 to 24. In 2019, that number is 39%, with the percentage of fans aged 24-35 growing from 16% to 27% of those searching for tickets to see BTS on Vivid Seats.

RUMORED??? It's clearly evident that every single one of them has had numerous and extensive plastic surgery treatments to make them look like girls R40!

by Anonymousreply 53September 1, 2020 2:44 PM

They didn't have surgery. They're really not that good-looking according to K-pop standards, and if you see their pics from their childhood to early teens, it's clear they didn't have surgery.

It's flattering that people think they had surgery: I guess they look better to some than I thought.

The girls thing is so dumb. They don't look like girls. R53 et al just want everyone to look like that old hairy guy in Palm Springs who takes photos of other naked old guys. Because he's an old hairy guy.

In any case, if you're over 35 or so, you shouldn't be following this. Go drool over a white guy with crows' feet and deep nasolabial folds like Anderson Cooper.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 54September 1, 2020 2:51 PM

R54, I say this as someone who loves BTS, several of them have had surgery. You can easily tell looking at before and after photos of them, but I will say it is less extreme/extensive than in other kpop groups because as you said they aren't necessarily all handsome according to kpop standards.

by Anonymousreply 55September 1, 2020 4:57 PM

R55, do you like TXT? I find them much cuter than BTS.

by Anonymousreply 56September 1, 2020 5:06 PM

I get what they are trying to do. Before I just thought the circus had come to town.

by Anonymousreply 57September 1, 2020 5:26 PM

EXO is cool too. They're a band made up of Korean and Chinese members. and there's nine of them!

More bad boy than BTS. Trying hard to be gangsta but still pretty.

[quote] Did either of them actually sing ANY of that "song"?

They did, that's why you can't understand a word they're singing without subtitles. So funny how South Korea wants to distance itself from the North, yet all this soft power business did was copying America and Japan to produce even more garbage. They're priding themselves of producing mass garbage is if it were gold.

I wonder how long will it take for all the sex abuse and physical abuse surface, you know like it did with pretty much every other kpop band out there?

by Anonymousreply 68December 2, 2020 1:22 AM

Is anyone surprised that countries with high rates of crazy religious lunatics are also the ones with the craziest fandoms? South Korea and America share that.

by Anonymousreply 69December 2, 2020 1:27 AM

I will never understand the appeal of this group.
