Vairst Leddy reveals newly “redesigned” Rose Garden

What do you think?

by Anonymousreply 149August 24, 2020 1:09 PM

She had the whole thing bulldozed down to the ground and put in all new plantings.

The words “stern” and “militaristic” come to mind, much like her fashion choices. Everything is tightly buttoned up and belted and sternly tailored there too.

by Anonymousreply 2August 22, 2020 3:26 PM

Her rigorous intellectual commitment to architectural training has come to full flower.

She should present her dedication speech four times, switching between each of the four languages in which she is fluent.

She should find a way to incorporate that cause dear to her heart: the Be Best campaign.

Brava to ex-model Knauss!

by Anonymousreply 3August 22, 2020 3:27 PM

It's just supposed to be an outdoor press conference facility now, right?

by Anonymousreply 4August 22, 2020 3:29 PM

Dear god.... really?

Did she think this was going to be some legacy for her? Help establish a little.... credibility?

by Anonymousreply 5August 22, 2020 3:29 PM

Not completes yet, stills need to puts up bronze statuses of pooseys mold from my tights poosey.

by Anonymousreply 6August 22, 2020 3:38 PM

I can picture Eva Braun drinking a pint between those two rigid brackets of shrubs.

by Anonymousreply 7August 22, 2020 3:40 PM

How much did that cost the taxpayers?

by Anonymousreply 8August 22, 2020 3:41 PM

What did it look like BEFORE she ripped everything up? Anyone have a photo?

by Anonymousreply 9August 22, 2020 3:47 PM

R9 You could google it, but here, from 2018.

by Anonymousreply 10August 22, 2020 3:48 PM

Ok, I was wrong. Paid for by private donations. Sorry if I misled.

by Anonymousreply 11August 22, 2020 3:49 PM

Can we bury her and her husband in it?

by Anonymousreply 12August 22, 2020 3:51 PM

She wants to forget the White House, forget the unhappiness that Trump's presidency became for her and Barron, and send a big Screw You to the American public. What better way than to destroy a piece of the White House grounds. Thank God she didn't attempt to do anything to the House itself.

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2020 3:57 PM

I like thorns.

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2020 3:58 PM

Wonder if they buried Robert Trump in that plot.

by Anonymousreply 15August 22, 2020 4:02 PM

Apparently, it’s faithful to the original Bunny Mellon design.

by Anonymousreply 16August 22, 2020 4:03 PM

The boxwood diagonals were not calculated correctly. The first from the steps should be the same length as the others. It should hit the borders of boxwood in the corner. This is sloppy and the professional gardeners involved talentless. Also, I like a rose garden to include trellised roses.

by Anonymousreply 17August 22, 2020 4:03 PM

Love you, r17.

by Anonymousreply 18August 22, 2020 4:05 PM

It was far prettier.

by Anonymousreply 20August 22, 2020 4:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 21August 22, 2020 4:08 PM

Of course Melania thinks she's another Jackie-O.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 22August 22, 2020 4:09 PM

I think I do too r18.

Who doesn't know basic math? Some architect she is.

Can you imagine her trying to design a staircase?

by Anonymousreply 23August 22, 2020 4:10 PM

R22 Probably true. They were both whores so Melania might feel a kinship.

by Anonymousreply 24August 22, 2020 4:11 PM

"Her rigorous intellectual commitment to architectural training has come to full flower."

Then we have something in common.

by Anonymousreply 25August 22, 2020 4:13 PM

Holy fucking shit. I thought you were kidding OP. That's awful.

by Anonymousreply 26August 22, 2020 4:15 PM

The grass is sod and it's going to be expensive because its sitting over a mass of cables and electricity.

I think it was wise to take out the fruit trees. But they needed to be replaced by trellises to give height dimension to the garden. There is no height now but that is because they want to include the side space in staging for press conferences.

by Anonymousreply 27August 22, 2020 4:16 PM

I design rose garden without roses because is not only modern thing to do, is also good way to adapt to ugly new wairld that my hooseband design. I design so that the person, he walks down promenade and then at end, trapdoor opens and he falls into dark corridor with dead twigs illuminated by unnatural mechanical flames. I always like these movie Weezard of the Oz and want to make roseless rose garden dungeon like that, like when stupid little whore Dorothy approaches weezard. At end of corridor, as you can see in peekture here, is fiery pile of rocks shaped like cone. Visitor to rose garden approaches and is then, how you say, emolated and vaporized. We then spreenkle visitor ashes around White House to keep lowly maids busy. Is very creative, is my vision alone, based on dreams of my hooseband.

by Anonymousreply 28August 22, 2020 4:17 PM

Concrete. I said it yesterday and will say it again today. That garden needs to be bulldozed and filled with CONCRETE!!!

by Anonymousreply 29August 22, 2020 4:18 PM

I dont really understand why its such little squares of sod, however. Maybe the Trumps billed a couple million and skimmed as much as they could.

by Anonymousreply 30August 22, 2020 4:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 34August 22, 2020 4:53 PM

R33 Let’s just make this easy and look at an article that describes what Melania did.

Unfortunately, DL censors/prohibits links to CNN, but Google “Your guide to Melania Trump's Rose Garden renovations” and you will easily find an article from CNN by that headline that details her renovations.

by Anonymousreply 35August 22, 2020 4:53 PM

is the edging concrete or stone?

by Anonymousreply 36August 22, 2020 4:56 PM

Awww at r33’s pic you can see a treehouse in the background.

by Anonymousreply 37August 22, 2020 5:04 PM

I really don’t care, do you?.....

by Anonymousreply 38August 22, 2020 5:18 PM

This was her original design, which was to remind her of her own little garden in Sevnica.

by Anonymousreply 39August 22, 2020 5:25 PM

My original concept was lady garden with lady roses and shining orbs, but historical architectural review committee tells me, ‘No, Melania, this is too European a concept.’ But they say it is classy idea! Maybe during hooseband’s second term, or maybe his fourth or when Barron runs country I will realize vision, but for now I go for classical American zigzag bush.

No one really believes Melania had anything to do with this, do they? She's only there when she is paid to be. She didn't design this any more than she did all of the Christmas decorations. She can't wait to escape all of this either.

by Anonymousreply 53August 22, 2020 7:00 PM

Melania had input on the Christmas decorations. I believe she worked with decorators who do crass luxury hotel decorations. That is what the looked like. Luxury mall in Dubai or Lux hotel for trashy rich in certain watering holes.

by Anonymousreply 56August 22, 2020 7:54 PM

It's not so terrible. Everyone is comparing the Jackie O garden during Spring with the late summer garden of today. Jackie O's garden this time of year wasn't so colorful and was rather blah looking. It's the third picture down.

by Anonymousreply 60August 22, 2020 8:32 PM

Did Mexicans do it?

by Anonymousreply 61August 22, 2020 8:35 PM

It really does look like they just swapped out the flowers, replacing exuberant/garish brightly colored ones with a subdued pastel color scheme. It’s not the most horrible thing. But it is pretty lifeless looking. Of course, perennial plants take 3-5 years to establish themselves before they really look how they are intended when planted as a garden. It might be nice. It’s just hard not to see evil in everything this family does because they are evil.

She did wear that “I DON’T REALLY CARE DO U?” jacket as she was boarding a plane to inspect imprisoned children. She does not get a pass for anything. Never. She should leave the country.

by Anonymousreply 62August 22, 2020 8:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 65August 22, 2020 9:04 PM

Going to be destroyed by this, but here goes.

It's better. The stone edging treatment formalizes the space and got rid of that shovel-cut edge. It looks much more elegant, and the trees gone really make the colonnade stand out. It really is a vast improvement. I am sure the planting bends will be s colorful as required, but it really is an improvement.

This will be the only good thing that will come out of this asshole's Presidency, an improved Rose Garden.

by Anonymousreply 66August 22, 2020 9:06 PM

I agree, r66. And, again, the color came from the tulips and blooming crab apple trees. So, really, the color lasted for about 2 weeks in the spring. The rest of the time the garden was dull with only greenery.

by Anonymousreply 67August 22, 2020 9:09 PM

Dump seems to hate Kennedy .

by Anonymousreply 68August 22, 2020 9:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 70August 22, 2020 9:17 PM

So, where are the roses?

by Anonymousreply 71August 22, 2020 9:24 PM

That slovenian whore should have never been able to touch Jacqueline Kennedys garden, a woman who was a real American not eastern European trash like Melania.

Fuck her and Dump.

by Anonymousreply 72August 22, 2020 9:29 PM

R72 “European trash!” Well! I am never!!

I have you know I can talk eight languages fluid, and I come here legally to America on supermodeling genius visa!

We live in a world where replacing Jackie Kennedy's designs with Melania Trump's is legal?

by Anonymousreply 90August 23, 2020 12:24 AM

I agree with those who say it's an improvement. It was lovely before, but I just think it looks cleaner, sleeker. The lighter flowers seem a better match with the building, and the columned area is so beautiful-- why cover it up? It's not like they chopped the trees down; they're just being moved to a different area.

And finally, I think the limestone walkways look great, and provide more access to the disabled.

by Anonymousreply 91August 23, 2020 12:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 103August 23, 2020 11:03 AM

The photos of the Kennedy garden at R57 show this to be little more than removal of the historic trees and the addition of an ugly, plain sidewalk. Tastes differ but I fail to see how anyone would call this an improvement.

What she tore out was not the original Kennedy garden. It’s been changed since. The plants she put in ARE roses.

Could our tasteful friends who endorse the removal of the crab apple (not cherry) trees please explain why?

by Anonymousreply 110August 23, 2020 4:42 PM

You think that’s something.? You wouldn’t believe her rejuvenated “secret garden.”

by Anonymousreply 111August 23, 2020 4:44 PM

The crab apples were just plopped there. Fruit trees in a buis bordered rose garden might be elegant in espalier. Is there a wall? Spindly American crab apple trees over bush roses is lame.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 112August 23, 2020 5:08 PM

If you view her modeling portfolio, it tells you a lot about her design aesthetic.

Her Xmas trees and Rose Garden reflect her severely-trimmed pubic bush and hard, rounded breasts.

by Anonymousreply 113August 23, 2020 5:24 PM

I just don't understand why she is redesigning her neighbors garden. She don't even live there.

by Anonymousreply 114August 23, 2020 5:34 PM

The whole thing feels like an Olivia Pope PR moment. She is a do-nothing First Lady, so with the upcoming election, this tricks dumb people into thinking she: 1. Cares 2. Actually had something to do with it. 3. Lives there 4. Is his wife (Not just in name only).

by Anonymousreply 115August 23, 2020 5:48 PM

To be fair to the Vairst Leddy, we are not seeing it in full bloom like the spring examples of years past. It's definitely more minimalist than I expected, but I suspect Trump's the one that is all in for the gilding and gold, that might not be Melania's personal taste. Her Christmas choices are so bizarre. I'm trying to think where she is getting her inspiration from. They are not even crazy, neuvo riche tacky, but just completely dark and strange, almost frightening. I'm not just saying this b/c she is Trumps wife and. I always travel to Europe over Christmas and like to see the decor of the best hotels/stores. I've never seen the period blood trees nor that forest of doom in the example upthread so I can't just give her a "she's European" pass.

by Anonymousreply 116August 23, 2020 5:58 PM

Maybe inspired from runway fashion sets which can often be dark and forbidding for the edgy factor??

by Anonymousreply 117August 23, 2020 6:00 PM

R72 Oh, Melania, gurl, I love yo crazy ass!

by Anonymousreply 118August 23, 2020 6:03 PM

It’ll take time for new roses to reach their potential—if they’re left in place, they’ll probably be gorgeous in three to five years.

But while the muted color palette is pleasant (and honestly more to my taste than vibrant colors mixed into a gaudy display), the renovation really sucked the life out of the garden.

And as ridiculous as this statement may seem, I am really put off that the White House whitewashed the rose garden at this time. The area outside of the White House was just named Black Lives Matter Plaza because Trump is overly enabling white supremacy. He employs white supremacists. For her part, ‘elania has not said vile racist things publicly, but she has proved to us that she sends a lot of nonverbal messages symbolically. The “I don’t care” jacket. The British colonial pith hat while touring African former British colonies. *Maybe* it’s just coincidental or subliminal that the garden has been de-saturated and filled with pale, mostly white flowers, but they have such a horrible track record of indecency that I would not be at all surprised if it’s intentional and symbolic to the Nazis in their orbit.

by Anonymousreply 119August 23, 2020 7:14 PM

It looks cold and dead just like Melanoma's marriage.

The Trumps are the reason we can't have nice things.

by Anonymousreply 120August 23, 2020 8:06 PM

I actually like that you can see the building's columns. It makes the building look more majestic.

by Anonymousreply 121August 23, 2020 8:16 PM

The idea of the White House’s architecture is that it is supposed to represent “the people’s house” and be relatively small-scale and humble, as opposed to the palaces of European royalty. It’s not supposed to be ‘majestic.’

by Anonymousreply 122August 23, 2020 8:28 PM

There aren't jet black roses but there are roses that look quite black. She should have planted a rainbow rose garden in honor of diversity from Black, to white, to the colours in between.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 123August 23, 2020 8:41 PM

So, it's majestic nevertheless, r122. If they wanted understated they could've not included columns.

by Anonymousreply 124August 23, 2020 8:53 PM

I'll only commend her for not going with the Trump family's REAL taste - which is obscene to anyone with vision.

by Anonymousreply 125August 23, 2020 8:54 PM

R122 that's not true at all. The White House is one of the most "grand" classical mansions in American history.

by Anonymousreply 126August 23, 2020 8:56 PM

The other thing that r122 forgets is the White House isn't built in the style (Federalist) that was prevalent for the times. Federalist architecture is far less grand than the style of the WH. So if understated is what they were going for then it would have been built more like Independence Hall.

by Anonymousreply 127August 23, 2020 9:04 PM

It wasn’t intended to be palatial. Neoclassical columns are a nod to Roman architecture, representative of the kind of republic that the founders had in mind. But they—and perhaps most especially George Washington—were opposed to the idea of American royalty, and the president is supposed to work as chief executive on behalf of the people, not as a ruler over the people.

“About two hundred years ago, when the United States was a brand-new country, people began to talk about where the president should live. Should the president live in the North or the South? Should the president's house be a palace, like kings live in, or a simpler house?

While Congress debated what to build and where to build it, our first president, George Washington, lived in three houses. The first two were in New York City. The third was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Finally, Washington decided to compromise. He picked a patch of land on the Potomac River.

Both Maryland and Virginia gave land for the new capital. The land was on the border of the North and the South. At that time, there were no western states! George Washington named the land the District of Columbia, in honor of Christopher Columbus.

President Washington hired people to plan a new city. Washington, D.C., is one of the only cities in the world that was designed before it was built. First, Benjamin Banneker and Andrew Ellicott made maps of the land. Then Pierre Charles L'Enfant decided where to put the roads. Washington decided to put the Capitol Building on a hill at one end of the city, and the president's house on a hill at the other end.

Next it was time to decide what kind of house to build for the president. Thomas Jefferson suggested having a contest. He advertised the contest in newspapers across the country. A committee picked a simple but elegant design by James Hoban, a young Irish American architect.”

And notice how left-leaning journalists and other liberals immediately went after him for it? Now show me ANY fucking cunt on the right who has ever gone after Trump or his admin. for every racist, xenophobic thing they have ever said or done.

who cares about the outrage from the NY Post which is a shit stain right wing rag?

Melania deserves all the criticism in the world for her desecration of the Rose Garden. She totally ruined it but is proud? and the public overwhelmingly hates it

I feel no sympathy for this woman who took part in the birther bullshit against Obama

It’s so rigid and joyless. Are they going to keep it so severely trimmed? There’s no variation in height or texture whatsoever and not a single leaf or twig out of place. How depressing.

Whoever “designed” this has no clue.

R104 Apparently the addition of a paved walkway was mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act because press conferences and signing ceremonies are held there - i.e. it has to be ADA accessible.

But I agree with you that the pathway is quite plain and ugly. They couldn’t have done something with it?

We have a rapidly approaching election.

A bipartisan Senate report just proved Trump’s campaign did collude with Russia.

176,000+ deaths in the U.S. from COVID, and counting.

Anything Melania related or this superficial is a distraction.

It looks like one big cemetery plot. Be best to bury her husband's legacy in.

They pulled out lovely spring blooming trees.

There’s something about seeing trees bloom flowers in the spring that makes you feel human again after a long winter.

Something the Trumps wouldn’t understand

“You want tree? I get you big red tree Shaped like cone. I give you beeg branches we spray paint any color you want. I make them white or silver or gold. Whatever color you like. You will love my genuine artificial trees. “

Thanks for giving the Rose Garden a Brazilian, Melania.
