interesting first rounders:

men:

despite his recent legal issues, Basilashvili is there and faces FAA

Rapper who happens to play tennis Shapovalov will face Cilic

Paire vs. Coric. I can't wait to watch the forehand rallies between these 2 lol

Murray vs. Tiafoe

Raonic vs. Querrey

Rublev vs. Evans

Dimitrov vs. Humbert

women:

+ PCB v. Lajovic and Struff v. de Minaur look worth a long look.

by Anonymousreply 4August 21, 2020 3:16 AM

main draw starts tomorrow

by Anonymousreply 5August 22, 2020 2:15 AM

CINCY!

by Anonymousreply 6August 22, 2020 2:20 AM

Gauff is out already.

by Anonymousreply 7August 22, 2020 6:19 PM

R7 Yeah, she really shit the bed, didn't she?

by Anonymousreply 8August 22, 2020 6:20 PM

I just watched the end....but, she could not get a good serve in. Double faults, and very weak on both sides.

by Anonymousreply 9August 22, 2020 6:23 PM

Wawrinka wins Prague challenger

by Anonymousreply 10August 22, 2020 6:25 PM

Mladenovic wins a match

by Anonymousreply 11August 22, 2020 6:26 PM

Gauff has a tendency to start the match a little off. That needs to be corrected as soon as possible or she will be in the showers before having the opportunity to give a fight against the top players

by Anonymousreply 12August 22, 2020 6:29 PM

And Paire retired after losing the seven games he played (and he played against Coric who was not playing well even before the coronavirus).

FAA match was pretty bad

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2020 6:34 PM

Are you on Tiafoe team or Misery team?

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2020 7:45 PM

Tiafoe really blew the last 3 points of the tiebreak

by Anonymousreply 15August 22, 2020 7:48 PM

Felix was fine, R13, once he got warmed up. Basil, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 16August 22, 2020 8:00 PM

Is Misery's ass looking nicer now? He always had nice thighs and calves (but not knees), but now is ass seems to have built up.

by Anonymousreply 17August 22, 2020 8:13 PM

R16 Felix played an awful first set. In the second he only needed to stay there because Basilashvilli did everything by himself. He needs to improve a lot if he wants to have some chances in case he face Djokovic in the third round.

And i'm starting to thing Tiafoe doesn't have what it takes to be a top player

by Anonymousreply 18August 22, 2020 8:45 PM

Misery looks like misery incarnated, whoever came up with the name, nailed it. Third set on.

by Anonymousreply 19August 22, 2020 8:54 PM

If Felix's play was awful, R18, which adjective would you use to describe Basilashvili's play? So far none of the play today has been anything spectacular. The players are just getting their feet wet again.

by Anonymousreply 20August 22, 2020 9:15 PM

Mladenovic def. Sevastova 6-4 6-3

Azarenka scores her first win over Vekic in 3 matches with a 6-2 6-3 result

Fritz with a quick win over Harris

Berankis long grinding win over Paul in 3

by Anonymousreply 21August 22, 2020 10:32 PM

Shapo vs Cilic on now. Shapo has a fucking fantastic ass. I would eat it and fuck it for hours.

by Anonymousreply 22August 23, 2020 1:06 AM

Yastremska def. Venus in 3 sets. Venus has actually been in decent form but brutal draws last 2 weeks

by Anonymousreply 23August 23, 2020 2:05 AM

g.e.m.s.life!

by Anonymousreply 24August 23, 2020 2:11 AM

Monfils and Svitolina are insane. I wonder what their sex life is like

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25August 23, 2020 3:41 AM

Yastremska was also playing mind games with Venus, which Rennae Stubbs was calling out throughout the third set, but for which this new crop of girls thinks nothing of doing.

by Anonymousreply 26August 23, 2020 4:01 AM

R20 Basilashvilli was just himself on a bad day. You only need to keep the ball on court to defeat him on one of those days. Felix played better in the second set, nothing spectacular but quite decent, the first was pretty bad.

And yes, most of the players are far from their best form, but some of them like our friend Shapo played very well

by Anonymousreply 27August 23, 2020 10:20 AM

R25 They are pretty funny, and Gael has balls of steel or blind trust in Elina's abilities

by Anonymousreply 28August 23, 2020 10:21 AM

JJ Wolf is a double-bagger, but damn that bod

I'm happy Anisimova won. Hopefully with all the Gauff hype Amanda gets less pressure and she becomes the star she is meant to be

by Anonymousreply 30August 23, 2020 12:09 PM

Im happy Amanda won as well. She’s easily the most talented player under 20 on the women’s tour right now.

by Anonymousreply 31August 23, 2020 2:07 PM

Shapo team or Struff team?

by Anonymousreply 32August 23, 2020 4:57 PM

R32 Well Shapo has the budding rap career, Struff has the cute baby. Hard to pick.

I'm going to pick Shapo because he has hotter calves.

by Anonymousreply 33August 23, 2020 5:29 PM

We'll get no bad rap with Struff.

by Anonymousreply 34August 23, 2020 5:34 PM

In the qualification round of the ITF torunament in Poland there is

by Anonymousreply 59August 24, 2020 1:55 AM

Did Felix grow taller than last year? Guess I just haven't seen him for a while.

by Anonymousreply 60August 24, 2020 4:08 PM

His stats last year put Felix at 6'3" and now he's listed at 6'4", so he might have grown an inch...

by Anonymousreply 61August 24, 2020 4:24 PM

Not sure which was worse, seeing Felix lose like that or having to stomach nauseating Sandgren.

by Anonymousreply 62August 24, 2020 6:10 PM

I said it yesterday, Felix level was not good and frankly he is not progressing the way people expected

by Anonymousreply 63August 24, 2020 6:22 PM

Perhaps he should give up tennis and go into regulating the airline industry in the US?

by Anonymousreply 64August 24, 2020 6:25 PM

Felix has always been hot and cold, brilliant one day, walkabout the next, not unlike Ivanisevic or Andrei Medvedev back in their day. Let's hope his twenties bring consistency to Felix's brilliant days.

by Anonymousreply 65August 24, 2020 6:25 PM

He was doing pretty well till he started Sascha's route with the girlfriend pics on instagram

by Anonymousreply 66August 24, 2020 6:27 PM

He was doing fine back in February. making it to the Rotterdam and Marseille finals. And he's toned down the girlfriend stuff on IG, so there's that.

by Anonymousreply 67August 24, 2020 6:34 PM

R67 Yes, i remember that. But he started really bad the year. I was interested in watching how he was going to deal with Miami because the pressure would be high there for him.

I think it's really stupid to post things with a girlfriend on instagram when you are barely starting the relationship. Zverev did that after the previous one exploded in his face.

Curiously Shapo seems to be way more discreet

by Anonymousreply 68August 24, 2020 6:38 PM

R71 He is celebrating one year with his girlfriend. That's far from trhowing pics of the girlfriend five minutes after start to date.

I don't want them to hide their girlfriends, they are part of their lives and it's good to share your victories with someone who care about you, but Felix and Alexander were posting pics just when they start to date which doesn't seem a good idea at all

by Anonymousreply 72August 24, 2020 7:24 PM

Denis posted this early on. FAA and he are about on par now with what they post. Flopos, however, is in full overkill mode with his obnoxious posts.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 73August 24, 2020 7:28 PM

R73 I don't think a pic from time to time is bad, but it's not a good idea to post on the early stages of the relationship (for obvious reasons).

Zverev liked to troll fans, i still remember those Sailor Moon dances with Melo when people thought they were a couple, or that puke inducing dance with the girlfriend after an early elimination on Austrlia 19. He just doesn't know when to stop

by Anonymousreply 74August 24, 2020 7:51 PM

Serena survives a brutally tough match with Rus. Serena had 5-2 in the third set, then was down a break 6-5 before a long game to break and swept the tiebreak.

by Anonymousreply 75August 24, 2020 8:11 PM

serbots Isner and Opelka both win. Isner again almost lost to Millman but came through in 3 tough sets like the rest of their matches

Keys and Thiem really hit themselves out of their matches today

by Anonymousreply 86August 25, 2020 2:39 AM

I've mentioned this before, but did Andy Roddick get a hair transplant?

by Anonymousreply 87August 25, 2020 2:44 AM

OMG Love Jabeur. She made Keys look like a fool.

by Anonymousreply 88August 25, 2020 2:47 AM

I should have gone bigger.

by Anonymousreply 89August 25, 2020 10:55 AM

R83 Bellis is doing well, after being the next best thing during a while and so many injuries, she must feel very well at being competitive again. She is top 200 again, and she'll be top 100 by the end of the year.

Next gen is doing awfully bad on this tournament. Only Medvedev and Tsitsipas (and we'll see how well Stef is able to do agains someone with a big serve) did well till now

by Anonymousreply 90August 25, 2020 1:38 PM

R87, it looks as if he has, now that you mention it, but it wasn't overdone.

by Anonymousreply 91August 25, 2020 2:45 PM

I know it isn't a popular opinion, but I enjoy Daniil Medvedev and think he is nice looking.

by Anonymousreply 92August 25, 2020 3:15 PM

Which part do you enjoy the most, R92, when he throws coins at umpires, when he rips towels out of ball boys' hands, when he challenges players to fistfights, or when he flips off the crowd?

by Anonymousreply 93August 25, 2020 3:30 PM

Bedene is hot. He looks good on his Insta.

by Anonymousreply 94August 25, 2020 3:44 PM

R93 Oh Tsitsi you are not the best man to critcise, the bullshit russian was not your brightest moment.

There are two things that i like from Medvedev, his game (the fact that he is able to be so good at defense being so tall is hard to believe) and the fact that he owned being the villain. Now everybody wants to be loved and adored by crowds and he couldn't care less.

By the way, he is one of the very few younsters who is playing at a good level

by Anonymousreply 95August 25, 2020 5:14 PM

Youngster? Ha! In February he'll be closer to 30 than 20.

by Anonymousreply 96August 25, 2020 5:42 PM

I need Khachanov to wreck my hole.

by Anonymousreply 97August 25, 2020 5:51 PM

R96 I detect some envy, Tsitsi, the bullshit russian got close to win a GS while Stef was trashed on the semis (and that was the best result since then)

by Anonymousreply 98August 25, 2020 5:57 PM

Ha again, R98--at my young age of 22 years and 2 weeks, Medvedev hadn't gone beyond a GS 2nd round.

by Anonymousreply 99August 25, 2020 6:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 112August 25, 2020 10:14 PM

erm, Struff

by Anonymousreply 113August 25, 2020 10:15 PM

lol @ Raonic's ever-changing hairstyle. After several years of slicking it back with gel, he's back to letting his natural curls flow free. He has them contained with a headband though, not the messy fall-over-the-forehead look he had when he first came on tour

by Anonymousreply 116August 25, 2020 10:23 PM

Both, R116. They both played amazing tennis. Really nice to watch.

by Anonymousreply 117August 25, 2020 10:26 PM

Very surprising to see Pegula upset Sabalenka. Pegula has very short take-backs on her groundstrokes and great timing which works on fast courts but she's not a huge hitter or great mover. She's more of a Bartoli player without the double handed forehand

Azarenka defeats Cornet. I'm not surprised but just learned today hearing Stubbs speak that recently Azarenka wasn't sure how much longer she wanted to play given her results the last couple years

Jabeur sweeps McHale which was expected.

Osaka with a much easier win over Yastremska than I expected

by Anonymousreply 118August 25, 2020 10:48 PM

Keyes' game is mind numbingly dumb and obnoxious. When all else fails hit harder and further away from the lines. I've heard DL fave Pammie S compare this tendency to Seles and Capriati except those two could actually keep the ball in the court. She was right.

by Anonymousreply 127August 26, 2020 4:32 AM

not sure if it's just rust or what but Serena's collapses against Rogers and Sakkari do not bode well for her chances in a week's time to win the USO even with a diluted field

by Anonymousreply 128August 26, 2020 4:37 AM

I think after losing the second set, SW did not give a crap. In her interview pre-match, she did not seem to want to be there.

by Anonymousreply 129August 26, 2020 10:22 AM

I don't think SW is hungry anymore. I don't really blame her, but maybe the only reasons she's playing are i) she doesn't know what else to do, and ii) everyone around her keeps telling her she's got to break Court's 24 majors. I just don't see that she wants it like she used to.

by Anonymousreply 130August 26, 2020 11:06 AM

When we watched the pre-match interview, the husband and I both laughed because it was clear that she was not going to work very hard. She complained about the heat and that she was already sweating (as if that was a surprise in NY, in August)....after she lost the (tight) second set, she clearly gave up. Whatever the reasons, I think it is pretty clear that her heart is not on it.

by Anonymousreply 131August 26, 2020 11:15 AM

Maybe it’s time Serena just gave it all up and had a baby or something.

by Anonymousreply 132August 26, 2020 11:30 AM

You’d think she’d be training with more purpose. She’s gonna be 39 next month and has said she wants to have another kid.

by Anonymousreply 133August 26, 2020 12:12 PM

R133 ANOTHER kid???

by Anonymousreply 134August 26, 2020 12:19 PM

R134:

[quote] [R133] ANOTHER kid???

You mean she’s already had one???!!

by Anonymousreply 136August 26, 2020 2:50 PM

R134, I'm not that surprised. Serena seems happy off-court now. I don't think that she ever physically recovered from her first pregnancy.

by Anonymousreply 137August 26, 2020 4:18 PM

Serena retire already.

by Anonymousreply 138August 26, 2020 5:14 PM

Serena won't retire because top players are not consistent.

She is far from her best form in the last two seasons but she was able to reach four GS finals. Yes, she played pretty bad every final, but she was close to win even far from her best

by Anonymousreply 139August 26, 2020 5:16 PM

The coach/player duo of Ivanisevic/Djokovic is among the most unpleasant in tennis. I used to be fans of both Ivanisevic and Djokovic until they showed their true colors. Is there a more annoying coach/player duo out there in either the ATP or WTA?

Jo Konta is playing some brilliant tennis this tournament. She also handled some criticism by (former player?) Laura Robson pretty well, saying basically "I don't know her".

by Anonymousreply 149August 26, 2020 10:48 PM

What did Robson say? Konta has looked good this week

Opelka had a knee injury.

Azarenka ends Jabeur's run

by Anonymousreply 150August 26, 2020 10:57 PM

Robson said something along the lines of "Konta appointing Hogstedt as her coach was a very odd choice" (I paraphrase) while commentating for Amazon Prime in the UK.

Konta replied with "Robson doesn't know me and I know nothing about her".

Great way to start your commentating career, Laura.

by Anonymousreply 151August 26, 2020 11:04 PM

Konta’s always bitching about something

by Anonymousreply 152August 26, 2020 11:54 PM

What a Kont!

The pandemic didn't shut down the US Open, but will the growing athlete boycotts do it?

by Anonymousreply 156August 27, 2020 12:03 AM

R156 Too late for that now. Most of the players are on site already in their "bubble". Unless there's a Covid outbreak among the players already there, it's going ahead.

by Anonymousreply 157August 27, 2020 12:06 AM

Krajinovic is playing some amazing tennis v Raonic.

Naomi's tweet:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 161August 27, 2020 1:06 AM

How does pulling out of a tennis tournament help the BLM movement?

I'm not sure any racist police are going to have some kind of Damascene moment because a half-Haitian, half-Japanese player pulled out of 'Cincy'. Playing and winning it would have given her a much better platform from which to share her views. She's tired after her last match and doesn't give a fuck about the Cincy title as it's so asterisk'd. Using the BLM excuse really does nothing for the cause.

by Anonymousreply 162August 27, 2020 1:15 AM

R162, she's showing solidarity with other athletes, like the NBA and MLB players, who are refusing to play. (Some of them actually have been targeted by police officers). Refusing to play will never send a message to those police officers who are beyond redemption; it's not meant to. Like most protests, it's aimed at people who have never seriously thought about things one way or another.

by Anonymousreply 163August 27, 2020 1:34 AM

Is Tipsarevic coaching Krajinovic?

by Anonymousreply 164August 27, 2020 1:54 AM

Naomi Osucka is a joke. She gets some extra rest before the start of the USO and her inevitable second round loss. She's a total mental midget.

by Anonymousreply 165August 27, 2020 2:25 AM

Remember James Blake.

by Anonymousreply 166August 27, 2020 3:38 AM

"Genocide"

She is fucking ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 167August 27, 2020 8:04 AM

Raonic was looking mighty fine against Krajinovic, though they both looked on the verge of a panic attack at times.

by Anonymousreply 168August 27, 2020 9:23 AM

Totally support Naomi's decision here, not surprising that some others do not.

by Anonymousreply 170August 27, 2020 3:18 PM

So did Osucka default and leave Mertens in the final? A refusal to play for such high principled reasoning is commendable, but she gave Mertens a walk over and now that we're on pause mode, does that allow Osucka back in the semi?

by Anonymousreply 171August 27, 2020 3:19 PM

A reporter on Twitter said her withdrawal from the match was a temporary pause and that she'd be playing again at the tournament, but he was torn down saying that wasn't right. So I've got no idea what's going on.

by Anonymousreply 172August 27, 2020 3:23 PM

I think Naomi wanted to rest before the Open and she had enough matches If she defaults NOW it will be very telling. Remember this is the bitch who dumped the coach who helped her win 2 gs, and she fired him because he wanted a raise. She's also the bitch who plays for Japan, but she's a Florida Valley girl who can't speak Japanese.

by Anonymousreply 173August 27, 2020 3:29 PM

r173, I'll pray for you. r162/165

by Anonymousreply 174August 27, 2020 5:19 PM

So is it now official she hadn't withdrawn from the tournament but effectively just postponed her match?

by Anonymousreply 175August 27, 2020 5:25 PM

Osaka: "I was (and am) ready and prepared to concede the match to my opponent. However, after my announcement and lengthy consultation with the WTA and USTA, I have agreed at their request to play on Friday."

by Anonymousreply 176August 27, 2020 6:59 PM

I don't fault her for using her position as a relatively public person to take a stand. The reason she presents now for proceeding with the match appears to be balanced and considered as well. She strikes me as quite reasonable.

by Anonymousreply 184August 27, 2020 9:31 PM

Tons to like, r182. Tsitsipas, Berrettini, Goffin, Khachanov, even lower-ranked players such as Kyle Edmunds, De Minaur, Millman... Actually, there are so many that I can’t see that there’s any point in wasting time and energy on the deplorables or the cynically manipulative turds like Djokovic.

WATCHING RAONIC VS TSITSIPAS RIGHT NOW and damn, milos has sexy muscular legs! whew and double whew! his calves alone are hump worthy!... delicious those legs are and glad he wears shorter shorts!...

by Anonymousreply 199August 28, 2020 6:05 PM

Tomorrow interesting semis in Trieste, Musetti (18) against Alcaraz (17) a victory on this tourmanent could gave the winner enough ranking to make the Roland Garros qualifications

by Anonymousreply 200August 28, 2020 6:08 PM

I could watch Raonic all day long.

by Anonymousreply 201August 28, 2020 6:13 PM

I don’t find Raonic that sexy, but I like him a lot.. Tsitsipa’s father is a silver fox and looking fine. Raonic won the first In a tiebreak.

by Anonymousreply 202August 28, 2020 6:23 PM

And Raonic breaks, 3-1

by Anonymousreply 203August 28, 2020 6:29 PM

you know that Milos must have a huge cock...

by Anonymousreply 204August 28, 2020 6:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 207August 28, 2020 7:03 PM

And RBA is up one set!

by Anonymousreply 208August 28, 2020 7:58 PM

I met Rod Levar last weekend had drinks with him and Martin Barba.

by Anonymousreply 209August 28, 2020 8:02 PM

R209, is Rod related to LeVar Burton?

by Anonymousreply 210August 28, 2020 8:17 PM

As much as we all like to bitch and moan about Fedal always winning/getting all the attention, it's going to be so weird watching a Slam without one of them playing. Also, and just to continue pointless bitching, I just can't stand Nole and know he's got this basically in the bag.

by Anonymousreply 211August 28, 2020 8:59 PM

ugh RBA fought back from 2-5 in the 5th to lose the breaker at love

by Anonymousreply 212August 28, 2020 10:17 PM

I mean in the 3rd

by Anonymousreply 213August 28, 2020 10:18 PM

How did Novak come back and win? He is amazing.

by Anonymousreply 214August 28, 2020 10:54 PM

I hope Raonic flattens Novak tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 215August 28, 2020 10:56 PM

If Raonic plays in the final like he's been playing recently, he'll demolish Djokovic.

by Anonymousreply 216August 28, 2020 11:07 PM

He scowled and snarled RBA down, R214.

by Anonymousreply 217August 28, 2020 11:13 PM

R209 did I get it wrong? Laver it must be

by Anonymousreply 218August 28, 2020 11:13 PM

R209 Laver maybe

by Anonymousreply 220August 28, 2020 11:25 PM

Laver is a drooling fool.

by Anonymousreply 221August 28, 2020 11:50 PM

Novacs is sexy as hell. Great posture/carriage, tall, fantastic legs. He is also just an out-and-out killer playing the game.

by Anonymousreply 222August 29, 2020 12:02 AM

Apparently, Novaxx is ill/injured. He did not talk to the press after his win.

by Anonymousreply 223August 29, 2020 12:06 AM

I did think he was close to throwing up on court a few times, R223.

by Anonymousreply 224August 29, 2020 12:12 AM

One man's "sexy as hell" is another man's demented scarecrow.

by Anonymousreply 227August 29, 2020 1:11 AM

I'll root for Milos but the only way he'll win is if Novak is sick. Heh great returners are not his forte.

by Anonymousreply 228August 29, 2020 3:24 AM

Looks like Djokovic has added a few more steps to his boobs out shtick, including a lengthy chat with the guy upstairs, probably in humble thanks for winning, before he starts. Each boob out is then punctuated by a quick look up, again probably in humble thanks for the assistance given in winning.

The very definition of a loon.

by Anonymousreply 229August 29, 2020 7:26 AM

Very interested to see Osaka vs. Azarenka

Djokovic leads Raonic 10-0 and has lost just 2 sets to him

by Anonymousreply 230August 29, 2020 8:08 AM

This new player council seems to have come out of nowhere. I thought Pospisil was one of the good guys? He's been doing so many podcasts, interviews and videos for the ATP recently and now he's joint in charge of this breakaway union?

by Anonymousreply 231August 29, 2020 8:46 AM

I actually think both Milos and Vika will spring the upset

by Anonymousreply 232August 29, 2020 9:34 AM

The Bryan Brothers' retirement announcement couldn't have been more poorly timed. It's almost been completely ignored.

by Anonymousreply 233August 29, 2020 9:36 AM

I think Osaka wins but Novaxx did not look well yesterday, so an upset is possible but I would not count on it.

by Anonymousreply 234August 29, 2020 12:28 PM

Osaka has pulled out of the final with an "injury".

by Anonymousreply 235August 29, 2020 1:43 PM

oy fucking vey

by Anonymousreply 236August 29, 2020 1:59 PM

Osucka strikes again. Poor Elise Mertens, now doubly screwed.

by Anonymousreply 237August 29, 2020 2:28 PM

Naomi sat with the insipid Chris McHendry, where she was compared to Althea Gibson and BJK. Osaka is a loon. An empty headed moron who I doubt had any true thought as a 'black woman' standing up for Jacob Blake. She just didn't want to play. I hope she does play the Open and CoCo takes her out in the 3rd round. '

He's at 80 titles. Think he has enough gas left in the tank to catch Fed or Connors?

by Anonymousreply 242August 29, 2020 9:36 PM
