I'll be going to Edinburgh in Sept. 2021. I would also like to hike around Loch Ness and the Isle of Sky. What can you recommend as far as activities, restaurants, and places to stay?

For a great meal in a great space in Edinburgh, The Witchery. Good views from the bar at the National Gallery.

Definitely see Edinburgh Castle...It's over 1,O00 years old, and the view of the city and firth is great. I wished I could have seen Holyrood Castle when I was there, but Liz was in residence when I visited Edinburgh.

The first time I went to Edinburgh everybody said you’ll love Edinburgh. I thought: we’ll see.
Yup.
Have fun.

Have this year's events taught you nothing about planning so far ahead?

Go a couple of weeks earlier and catch the tail end of the Edinburgh festival, the world's largest arts festival (if it happens).

Portobello is a former watering hole. It's got some good gift shops, very quiet pubs, except horse racing Sundays, when their entire male population turns out to watch the races on telly.

The festival is massive fun. Affordable, more music and comedy than rotting meat dress performance suffering, erm, art.

Happy quarantine OP.

I must be the only one who didn't like the city. Every single building in the centre seems to be made out of the same grey stone, making the whole place look monotonous and depressing as fuck. I prefer my old towns pastel-hued, thank you very much.

R12, you are honestly the only person I have ever encountered who had something bad to say about Edinburgh.

R12 prefers Bath.

I hear Scotsmen are randy and well hung.

Glasgow or Edinburgh? Which is better?

Be a dear and bring me back a stuffed Nessie or some other Nessie souvenir.

National Museum of Scotland, National Gallery, Gallery Of Modern Art, the Dean Gallery, Holyroodhouse, the Scottish Parliament, the Old Town, and you have to go to Edinburgh Castle, which has the Honours of Scotland (Crown Jewels), Mons Meg, Saint Margaret’s Chapel, etc. My favourite place to eat in Edinburgh is Kim’s Mini Meals, a tiny, quirkily furnished Korean restaurant. The food is wonderful. Also Kalpna for authentic Indian vegetarian food from all regions.

Don’t miss Roslyn Chapel just outside of Edinburgh. Templar magnificence.

I am moving to Belfast soon; just a ferry ride away. Let me know if you want to come over to Northern Ireland and meet up!
