Interesting Film that I had never seen- Its fucking ODD. Out of The Blue- 1980
After reading about the death of Linda Ganz, and Natasha Lyonne raving about this performance, I checked out Youtube and sure enough the film Out Of The Blue was on there in its entirety..
I guess this was during Dennis Hopper's exile from Hollywood...
It is a VERY interesting film. Its like John Waters meets Robert Altman..
Some horrific performances from the supporting players (very much like John Waters- and very similar documentary like cinematography)
The film was nominated at Cannes and was virtually forgotten due to release issues. It looks like it was released 2-3 years later.
Ganz wasn't an actress, I think she WAS these characters she played. Its pretty amazing to watch, The film has a shocking last 10 minutes completely fucked up by the shitty script..
Very odd film that in my 43 years I have never heard of this film.....

Wasn't there a 4K remaster last year but it appears it never got to Blu-ray or streaming?
That film seems to have a tortured history.

And one part of me says that it is a HORRIBLE film (and horribly acted) and the other part says that it is a CLASSIC and Ganz and Hopper are geniuses... (The real supporting players are HORRIFIC- see that cafeteria/ice cream parlor scene shot at a wide angle- It is HORRIBLE. When I say Waters meets Altman, I stand by that.
I say it needs to be seen. And I will never look at Natasha Lyonne the same way again! (I think she said Ganz's performance is her "Safe space!"? Holy SHIT. That's not good, honey.
However, Now I see a lot of Ganz's character and performance in Lyonne's Slums of Beverly Hills character,,,so... hmmmm....

Are you sure it isn't Linda Manz, not Ganz?

R10 OMG, I want to watch that, though I find Joanne Woodward kind of bland. I always wanted to watch Resurrection with Ellen Burstyn, but the print on youtube is bad.

Resurrection r12 is a brilliant film. It's weird that it has remained somewhat obscure since Burstyn was nominated for an Oscar that year. She's magnificent in that film. I think it may be her best performance.
It was released on Blu-ray last year so I'm sure there must be a torrent or link online.

German Gay Guy! Holy FUCK! Watch Resurrection- Its a really wonderful film. You and the PRINTS!!!! Who gives a fuck. WATCH THAT ONE!!!!!!!! That one is a classic. I love Burstyn. Its worth the bad film version.....
I waited years to see Woodward in Summer Wishes and ended up purchasing the DVD (I think it was a bootleg) And now its fucking free on Youtube!!! Watch it-
I really liked it. It has a real element of truth in it. And I have never been a Woodward fan, but I have to say- this film, Marigolds, and Rachel Rachel- DID make me a fan. Very real. Just like life. She ain't pretty. She isn't fun. But she did ring some- REAL- truth in those performances.

R18- You are CORRECT- It is Burstyn's best performance. And if you asked her what her favorite film is? It would be Resurrection.
German Gay Guy- Check it out. Its a classic, and a forgotten one.
