Have there ever been studies tying anorexia to child abuse (sexual)? I often wonder if that is a root cause for some.

The fact is I never heard of this guy until someone in some other thread brought him up as an example of an openly gay musician. So Ellen's label must have been a crappy one because he certainly never was a mainstream star. He would have been better signing to Disney as a kid. Anyway, he seems happier now doing alternative indie pop stuff and has a social media following.

He reminds me of Ryan Beatty another former child music star. Beatty took a hiatus and came back as an adult and released indie pop/R&B albums. Beatty is openly gay and his lyrical content is pretty explicit about it too. He also has a decent social media following and is affiliated with Brockhampton who produced some of his songs.

Eating disorders are often a response to trauma. I read that it's not uncommon for anorexics and bulimics to also have neurosis and suffer from OCD, anxiety and perfectionism. Growing up gay and closeted is certainly traumatic and also gaining fame and wanting to succeed in an area like the entertainment industry with so many people cheering you on and family and managers investing in your success is as well.

R22 Restrictive anorexics are no more likely to have suffered sexual abuse than people in the general population. They tend to come from hyper-normal environments - lacking in spontaneity, but stable.

Binge/purge anorexics are more likely to have been abused sexually. But in my view, their abuse explains more the bulimic behaviors than anorexic ones. Bear in mind that bulimia is linked to borderline personality, which is known to be caused in some cases by incest. Anorexia, however, is linked with obsessive-compulsive personality, which in many respects is the opposite of borderline.

I'm a former anorexic who binged. I know I have both obsessive-compulsive and borderline traits, though the latter, in my case, is not the result of abuse but of genetics.
