Anthony Michael Hall caught on video flipping out on people at hotel pool
cursing out a group of people hanging out poolside at the South Congress Hotel in Austin, Texas on Wednesday — and now he’s apologizing for it.
Sources told TMZ that the “Breakfast Club” star arrived with his wife and assistant and was blasting music out of his own speakers, disrupting other guests and cursing. That’s when other poolside guests reportedly asked the actor to “tone it down.”

Seeing press video and photos, I remember him behaving in a really strange passive-aggressive way at the MTV reunion of THE BREAKFAST CLUB cast, years ago.
He didn’t make eye contact with anyone, but stared around the room unblinking. His body language was so tense and overbearing, like he was gritting his jaw hard enough to shatter. He didn’t smile once. He barely touched anyone or reciprocated hugs and the like, but after a few drinks he kept wrapping his arm around Molly & Ally in this way that looked like a chokehold. It was very unsettling.
If he does have a hard time controlling a mental illness, then I do pity him and think it’s a shame, because he was a smart likeable and talented teenager. If he did this to himself through drug/steroid use, then I have no sympathy whatsoever.

Why did Ringwald break up with him, by the by? Neither has ever given a reason, afaik, and I’m not reading Molly’s books or listening to her talk for hours on a podcast just to satisfy a mundane curiosity.
They only dated for a year or so at highschool age, so it’s likely a boring story of incompatibility and growing up apart like all teen breakups, but who really knows? Maybe he was showing glimpses of this reported dark underbelly as young as age 18, and Molly saw the red flags and wisely bailed (or was advised to bail)? They were close at teens, but aren’t friendly with one another anymore as older people, so something like that would check out.
They were adorable kids, and seemed happy in their cute little relationship.

Wasn't it really some bullshit that Brian wasn't a possibility to get either girl in THE BREAKFAST CLUB? Maybe he's still mad about that.
While my ideal version of that movie has Claire & Alison driving off to be together and paying all three of the boys dirt, if it had to be a hetero-fest with designated couples then I think Brian should have ended up with either Claire or Alison. Giving the awkward passive virginal 'Brain' a shot at finding love or sexual companionship would have been a surprising twist and would have strengthened the ending resolution - the message that cliques stay cliques, and there is no true ascension up the social ladder for the pariahs so they need to stick together (Brian/Alison), or; a true crossing of social boundaries is something so rare and powerful, that when it happens it goes beyond the consideration of external factors such as family or friends and the superficiality of teenaged egotism (Brian/Claire).
Molly Ringwald unsuccessfully petitioned and pressured Hughes to change the final script for Claire to end up with Brian and not Bender, likely because she was dating AMH at the time and she didn't get on well with Judd Nelson. If you watch the movie very closely and pay attention to things like where the characters stand in certain scenes and how they position their bodies in spite of what they are saying and doing, you can discern that the on-screen couple chemistry is actually better and more natural between Molly & AMH (obviously), and that at certain points during the shoot Hughes may have been considering Ringwald's idea. This comes across strongly in the dialogue scenes in which Brian confronts Claire about her vanity, and later when Claire talks Brian into writing their individual assignments on his own - in both there is a gentle undertone of mystified attraction and appreciation for the other's inner self.
Have to admit AMH played the character Brian with remarkable nuance and sensitivity. The moment when he clocks a made-over Alison and gapes in confusion before breaking into a brilliant reassuring smile is my favourite interaction in the entire film.

He made Corey Feldman look like Beethoven by comparison.
I'll never forget him being interviewed on a morning drive-time radio show in L.A.

I'll never forget he said this, in all seriousness:

R51 wtf? That is the best worst thing I've witnessed in a long time.
For me the song buffered before the video, and on first listen I thought it was an awful unfinished roughcut demo by Simply Red or Terrence Trent d'Arby playing. This would have been tolerable. Then I saw Anthony dressed...like that and doing....I can't even describe it. At least the husky drummer with the shakers and bucket hat is feeling it ;/
Anthony has the Feldog beat for sound, but Corey still smokes him for performance and energy and commitment to the Bit.

Bipolar and sued before.
A case before The Supreme Court of British Columbia involves actor Anthony Michael Hall’s failure to disclose his bipolar disorder, which resulted in production of The Dead Zone being shuttered from May to August, 2001. The insurance company that posted the completion bond for the production company is attempting to recoup the $612,000 they paid the production company.
I cannot find a resolution. But it appears he is not managing it.

Trivia: he was among the first choices offered the role of Duckie in PRETTY IN PINK and the role of Cameron in FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF. He turned both down flat and right off the bat, for fear of being typecast. I can see his point, though he would have been credible in either part and could have given these insipid characters a bit more of a manic and robust edge (especially Duckie). As for his original star-making role in SIXTEEN CANDLES, he was almost edged out of it by Jim Carrey in the final casting stages.
Conversely, he tanked the audition for Ponyboy in THE OUTSIDERS (thank Heavens, he would have eaten poor sweet Ralph Macchio for breakfast), and despite winning the part of Pvt. Joker in FULL METAL JACKET was replaced for some mysterious reason by Matthew Modine.

Indeed she did, R62.
They were both the only teen actors in Breakfast Club (Nelson was 25, Sheedy & Estevez about College sophomore age), and also the only two who had worked together before and knew one another well, so it was probably the only natural thing that they became close and then a couple. No-one has ever given an exact timeline for their relationship, but it would seem they dated for at least a year or two from 1985.
They are still in touch. Molly gave this quote to TIME about four or five years ago:
[quote] (on whether the OG Brat Pack still keep in touch) You know, we run into each other every so often, usually at an event for The Breakfast Club. I’ve seen Michael [Anthony Michael Hall] the most and have stayed in contact with him. The only one I haven’t really seen is Emilio; I don’t think I’ve seen him in years.
Strangely, there are certain photos and a couple of televised interviews that Molly & Mike did together when they were dating that have recently been scrubbed from the internet or perhaps even copyright-struck. Just now I went looking for one in particular to link here - the one that the GIF below is taken from, iirc a sit-down with Arsenio c.1986? - but couldn't find it up anywhere anymore. It was definitely uploaded somewhere just a couple of years back.

just looked up his astrology and yIKeS. No wonder she's a mess.
He's got a Fire-dominant natal chart, with two Yods. Aries Stellium led by Sun-Saturn in conjunct and including Chiron. Moon in wide conjunct with Neptune in Scorpio. Retrograde outers, including natal Jupiter in Leo afflicted by a square aspect Neptune. Saturn conjunct the North Node. Moon opposite Mars. I hope at the least he regularly attends Anger Management and does plenty of calming meditations and exercise.
The best I can say is that his natal Venus & Mars are in mutual reception, but even that isn't an easy or productive combination.
[quote] If his Mars is in Aries and his Venus is in Taurus, he will go after what and who he wants in a direct way, but once he gets into bed he may be surprisingly earthy and sensual, with a liking for being the submissive partner. Once we get what we want through Mars, the way we enjoy it may be utterly Venusian. This depends on how strong the relative planets are, and how in touch we are with both our masculine and feminine sides.
At least we can see why Molly liked fucking him - she happens to have a very visible domicile Mars in Aries on the MC with Chiron. She probably topped him and smacked him around a lot.

R62 Mike is one of the least insane of Molly's previous loverboys. She married an obscure high-culture French writer, was with Dweezil Zappa during the filming of PRETTY IN PINK, and prior to that had dated Ad-Rock of The Beastie Boys and Kennedy Jnr. That is a hell of a resume.

Apparently, his background is his mother was a jazz singer and his dad was an auto shop owner who divorced when he was still an infant. He was born in Roxbury, Boston but raised in Manhattan. He got his start acting in commercials at age seven and got his big break in National Lampoon's Vacation in 1983. That scene in Weird Science where he is doing a Richard Pryor impression around a bunch of black guys was on point which shows his familiarity with black culture because of his mother's career in jazz and blues. He was also the youngest cast member to date on SNL at age 17. He was going to play Jim Carroll in The Basketball Diaries had it been made in the 1980s and he would have definitely pulled it off and his career could have gone very differently if the film was good. He's a blue-collar NY Irish Catholic guy at heart.
