Who?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 11, 2020 8:36 PM |
Trinidad "Trini" López III (May 15, 1937-August 11, 2020) was an American singer, guitarist, and actor.
RIP

I like Trini Lopez. He had a distinct, pleasant voice with an accent and I have some of his records from the 1960's.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 11, 2020 8:37 PM |
Damn it. I have fond memories of watching Trini on tv when I was a kid.
RIP
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 11, 2020 8:38 PM |
He was super cute, but I like hobbity-looking guys.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 11, 2020 8:39 PM |
I'm wondering if Trini was gay. There is never any mention of a marriage, wife, or children.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 11, 2020 8:41 PM |
Trini Lopez is 5 feet seven inches tall. Pocket gay.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 11, 2020 8:47 PM |
He was my first man crush. The Welcome to Triini Country pic with him on a horse. My dad came home from a business trip and told me that Trini was in his hotel, playing a concert. I loved the music but I was confused that I wanted to be in the hotel with him, not at the concert? Hmmm. That's curious.
Counting flowers on the wall, smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo!
LOL all my boyfriends, including hubby for 20 years, look like this. I have a type.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 11, 2020 8:55 PM |
Trini stole all our songs
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 11, 2020 9:05 PM |
Now I can shower with him every morning!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 11, 2020 9:08 PM |
Another trinsperson taken by covid. Rest in power queen!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 11, 2020 9:15 PM |
RIP, Trini

Condolences to Mario.

His horrible "jazzy" cover of "If I Had a Hammer" is one of the worst earworms imaginable.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 11, 2020 9:21 PM |
Was he gay? He dated Joey Heatherton.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 11, 2020 9:43 PM |
Back in the 1960s, my parents took 12-year-old me to Blinstrub's, a Boston nightclub, for a charity fundraiser.
Trini was appearing there that week, so he performed that Sunday afternoon and Norm Crosby was his opening act.

R20, Who wasn't?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 11, 2020 9:51 PM |
quote] He was in The Dirty Dozen.
And was such as asshole on the set they rewrote the script to kill him off camera and fired his ass.
According to Jim Brown's autobiography, Trini Lopez's part was supposed to be larger, but he demanded that his part be even bigger, or he'd walk off the movie, which you don't do to director Robert Aldrich. The next day the question was asked, "Where's Jmenez?" Charles Bronson said "He got hung on an apple tree. Broke his neck." An obvious jab at Lopez's hit song "Lemon tree."

Ghjj
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 11, 2020 10:33 PM |
It sounds like he was very generous towards his siblings, nieces and nephews
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 11, 2020 11:35 PM |
He lived in Palm Springs for the last few decades. There was an article in the paper yesterday how they were going to do a documentary on his life.
Single, never married, and Palm Springs. Do the math.

Gay face,
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 12, 2020 12:40 AM |
So-- (the obligatory)-- who's had him?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 12, 2020 12:53 AM |
So young.

[quote]His horrible "jazzy" cover of "If I Had a Hammer"
You mean his theft, see also "Lemon Tree" amongst others.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 12, 2020 1:00 AM |
I knew him personally. He used to take a close family friend (female) on shopping sprees in Palm Springs in exchange for dirty talk. True story.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 12, 2020 1:21 AM |
R30: Sounds delightful.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 12, 2020 2:52 AM |
R30 - dirty talk - like sexual or gossip? A gossipy queen who likes to shop and shit talk - that I believe.
I don't believe going on shopping sprees for a little dirty sex talk. That doesn't make any sense.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 12, 2020 2:59 AM |
R22, he was signed to Frank Sinatra's label, Reprise, and I had always heard that it was Sinatra who coaxed him to quit "The Dirty Dozen" in order to focus on his music career. I was fine with his early departure from the picture. That bramble bush song was annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 12, 2020 3:17 AM |
Who?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 12, 2020 3:26 AM |
R16 = Larry King
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 12, 2020 4:37 AM |
Thank god it wasn't Trini Alvarado!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 12, 2020 4:54 AM |
... but the fruit of the lemon is impossible to eat.
RIP. I thought the dimple in the chin was cute.

Reading his NY Times obit, it looks like he always had trouble working as part of a group, going way, way back. He had been considered as a possible new front man for Buddy Holly's band after Holly's death and he didn't get along with members of his first band.
He seems to be one of those people from the early 60s who managed to survive later on through overseas bookings and he made a number of obscure films. I'm guessing he survived more recently by playing third tier Indian casinos and other obscure venues.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 12, 2020 12:17 PM |
Too bad he couldn't hammer out COVID.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 12, 2020 12:20 PM |
R32- sexual dirty talk obviously and believe me, she probably did more with him too. We only witnessed the phone calls. She’d step away from anything when he called to give him what he wanted right there on the spot...this woman did anything for money. Also, he wasn’t gay. In addition to our family friend he had a long-time girlfriend (and who knows how many others). If you want to keep your delusions, feel free to keep thinking anything your little heart desires.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 12, 2020 1:22 PM |
Trini Lopez was no Sergio Mendez.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 12, 2020 1:41 PM |
R41, no he wasn't indeed. Trini was American born and bred, sang rock/pop music and is dead. Sergio Mendes is Brazilian, plays bossa nova, Latin, and jazz and is alive.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 13, 2020 1:18 AM |
Oh thank god.
I'm glad he's dead. I thought it said Trini Alvarado.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 13, 2020 1:24 AM |
[quote]Was he gay? He dated Joey Heatherton.
That would turn anyone gay.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 13, 2020 1:27 AM |
THAT'S the movie you choose to illustrate Trini Alvarado. ??
This is the one.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 13, 2020 1:36 AM |
WEHT Trini Alvarado?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 13, 2020 2:40 AM |
I love Trini Lopez. He had his own signature guitar as well. I saw a secondhand one in a guitar store once and talked myself out of an impulse buy. I've regretted it ever since.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 13, 2020 2:46 AM |
He was an irritating presence. I'm guessing he spent his last years playing third tier Indiana casinos and small town summer festivals.
