JFC the Great Fire was the low point in several people's career. I'm looking at you, Jack Huston. But he was really creepy in 5 minutes of screentime he got in The Invisible Man and has an "in" with Blumhouse now, so we may see him in bigger things in the future after he gets done with that Sam Heughan indie in a few months.

It made zero sense to me why they needed him on set largely for the shoot. I assumed Moss was acting against nothing, but OJC was in a motion capture suit. I guess Leigh Whannell just wanted to stare at his handsome face.

I'm calling bullshit on this. OJC has been working steadily for the last decade, going from one project to another, including several series. If he was that bad, his reputation would get around and he wouldn't get that much work. Yes, he's gorgeous -- but it's not like he's a big name that can get away with that crap.
I really doubt that Mike Flanagan, creator/director of [italic]The Haunting of Hill House[/italic] series on Netflix, wouldn't have cast him again in [italic]The Haunting of Bly Manor[/italic] if he were such a prima donna or "difficult drunk". No one on that type of project has time for that kind of nonsense.

Not necessarily. Jane Lynch was a functional drunk, for instance.

I didn't get the impression that "Burned" was talking from a professional perspective.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 14, 2020 1:44 AM |
I don't doubt that he drinks, but it's the "difficult" part that IMO is iffy. This is the only source of this ever. There are videos of him on YouTube from years ago drunk and coming out of nightclubs with friends and he seems like a very gregarious drinker. It's not impossible, of course, but I'm sure many of us have exes, especially angry ones, that would say we're evil personified too, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt until there's more gossip. Professionally, Mike Flanagan who has known him for 3 years now also tweeted a few weeks ago that he thought HBO should cast "Ollie" as John Constantine in their upcoming Justice League Dark series, so no hard feelings there either it seems.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 14, 2020 1:50 AM |
Well, we've heard how Colton abused substances, which affected his personal relationships more than his professional ones (he lost one acting role). He'd go on solitary benders when he had time off from working. He was not getting help for his mental health. He had a difficult childhood.
It wouldn't surprise me if there are parallels there with OJC.

Jane Lynch is long in recovery so I don't see how that is pertinent. Her reputation has not taken a nose dive, if that's what you're implying
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 14, 2020 11:51 AM |
[Quote] What parallels?
The parallels were listed. Colton worked since his teens so the "can't hold down one job" is moot. And correct me if I'm wrong, but had OJC worked on any show longer than a season or two?

OK. So what was suggested by "Burned" doesn't sound all that suss. It doesn't make OJC bad, if true. He's just drawn that way.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 14, 2020 2:37 PM |
OJC is such a mess that after working with him for 9 months on Hill House, Mike Flanagan upgraded him to one of the two series leads of the second season!!! He can clearly barely function.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 14, 2020 6:14 PM |

R54 Burned is fine, it's the drama queens who subsequently spun it into dramatic "parallels" with Colton Haynes and Jane Lynch that we're making fun of. Are you being deliberately obtuse?

[quote]Jane Lynch is a success story in how she's dealt with addiction. Why would you be offended at the mention of her name?
Not offended by the mention of her name, but [italic]am[/italic] offended that she was brought into a discussion about OJC as an example of a "functional drunk". What was the point? That OJC is not? Or is too?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 14, 2020 7:59 PM |
In the wake of the "Burned" comment, someone took issue with the "difficult" descriptor and launched into a defence of OJC's ability to function in a work environment, even though the "Burned" comment made no mention of a work environment. It was then posted that people who abuse alcohol can be fully functional in work environments. Jane Lynch was given as an example. This seemed to anger the "work" poster even more. It's odd.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 14, 2020 8:12 PM |

I'm sure Madonna being nice to him had nothing to do with his looks.
Interviewer: Is it true you once fetched a sandwich for Madonna?
OJC: I did. [Laughs] How the hell did you know that? When I was at school, which was a French school, they were very adamant about me not taking time off. I was signed to an agent, but all I was allowed to do was anything that didnāt involve filming so I decided to get a job as a runner. I did it on all these different TV shows and ended up working on MTV during the holidays. I covered all the music awards and I was assigned to Madonna one time. I canāt recall what was in the sandwich but she was very sweet. Compared to all these horror stories youād hear, sheās a very nice woman. I was just a runner and I donāt think anyone really gave a s**t about me and why would they? But it was a great experience being around all that stuff. I think every actor should be a runner at some point because it helps you understand what goes on and how important it is. If they say āNowā it actually means now, not in five minutes.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | August 15, 2020 1:10 AM |
He didn't go to drama school. If I remember right, he was kicked out of his school's drama club for fighting and instead then did youth community theater in London as a teen alongside other future notables Ophelia Lovibond and Carey Mulligan, the latter whom he name drops pretty regularly in interviews. In the above quote though, it's ambiguous but he doesn't actually specify who wouldn't allow him to take acting roles while going to school, so maybe it was mom and dad who said no. He had a brief role in Eastenders at 15 or 16 but this helps explain why he didn't work again for years, not even bit roles.

Was Betty Jackson important enough that people like Madonna would feel like they had to be nice to her teenage son on sight? She's close friends with Jennifer Saunders, hence the gig. I read one place that Oliver was Jennifer's godson, but other sources just have her as a very close friend of his mother. Oliver's mother is the godmother of Jude Law, though.

The last photo he posted of Jessica was in February 2017. This despite that LandRover paid both of them to go on a sponsored trip last year. She posted photos of him from the trip and tagged him in it, which is how we know she was there, but he didn't even tag her in his.

I don't know, there were all sorts of rumors about them in the British tabloids early on when they were doing Dracula, but she comments and likes most of his posts and tags and posts about him, and he rarely responds. She tagged him in her own birthday post this year and he took 2 weeks to like it.
She also recently followed Jack Bannon, to whom she has no connection other than he became Oliver's friend last summer when they met at Paris Fashion Week. Videos of him and Jack hanging out while drinking are in his IG stories; meanwhile she's not in any. Jack took over a month to follow her back despite posting stories and liking other people's posts like Ben Aldridge's coming out post.
Meanwhile Oliver likes Richard Madden's posts within minutes.

Did she get abuse from his fans when they were believed to be together? Maybe that's why he likes some of her comments on his posts but doesn't otherwise engage.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | August 25, 2020 11:37 PM |
On the contrary. His few frau fan accounts love them as a couple and freak out any time she posts or comments anything to or about him because they think they're still together and "just private." They explain away the fact that she posts photos her current girlfriend with the caption "My Love" as a BFF thing, and the fact that he hasn't mentioned her in years as proof that he's just sooooo private. I think deep down they know what's up, but note that her comments always get hundreds of likes on Instagram. Meanwhile, HER fans all seem to assume she's a lesbian.

by Anonymous | reply 146 | August 27, 2020 7:14 PM |
Betty Jackson was raised Protestant but identifies as non-religious. In interviews, she's said her husband was raised ultra-orthodox but had already started to break away from orthodoxy by the time they met and fell in love, and that his family had a lot of opinions about him marrying a shiksa. However, I think I read that her husband did later go through the trouble of becoming an Israeli citizen, so he didn't cut all ties. It doesn't seem like Oliver was raised religious either way but he does sometimes post Merry Christmas selfies, usually from a beach somewhere. A lot of Jewish and non-religious people celebrate Christmas without the spiritual aspects so that's not rare.

R205 Tell that to Fellini and Pasolini
by Anonymous | reply 211 | October 9, 2020 12:23 AM |
R205 An actor will tell you that the crew films a setup for over an one hour and can do up to twenty takes to get 3 seconds of dialogue.
Look at a current TV show. Actors don't recite a whole sentence.
The Sound Editors and the Video Editors cut during the actor's sentence. They cut away to another actor and they overlay the sound from one take on to the vision from another. They overlay the sound of one actor over the vision of another actor.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | October 9, 2020 12:37 AM |
TV shows can't afford to do re-take upon re-take. There's too much to shoot.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | October 9, 2020 1:00 AM |
Yeah, actors who can't get a scene right in a couple of takes are a problem on a TV set where time is money and most episodes have only a handful of days to shoot, and most of that time is technical setup.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | October 9, 2020 7:59 PM |
[quote]An actor will tell you that the crew films a setup for over an one hour and can do up to twenty takes to get 3 seconds of dialogue. Look at a current TV show. Actors don't recite a whole sentence.
Not quite. Yes, they can spend hours setting up. However, 20 takes?
Assuming there are only two people in a scene and there isn't a lot of movement ...
The director is going to do a master shot of both actors in the scene running through the whole scene.
The director is going to do one angle on an actor and then a reverse angle on the other actor. Both times the actors will run through the entire scene. Depending on the schedule of the person they are working with and how often they are actually seen on camera when it's focusing on the main actor in that angle, if it's a medium shot where they are seen only over the shoulder or a close up where the other actor is off screen, the other actor may not even be on set. Usually people are helpful though and recite their lines off camera to the actor that is being focused on.
For TV or indie film the standard for a long time was a 3:1 ratio. So three takes minimum for every scene on every angle so the editors have other takes to edit in if there's an issue. However, that's project and director dependent. You could be only allowed to do as little as one take. (That's common on soaps now because of the budget and with things that are completely inconsequential.) It's rare you get a ton of takes unless you're working with someone like David Fincher whose whole thing is doing exhaustive amounts of takes. When time and budget is a concern you don't get that luxury. (Or torture in that case.)
Long story short: It could be as little as 3 takes for an entire scene or 9ish, maybe 10, maybe 11 or 12 but not 20 all together.
[quote]The Sound Editors and the Video Editors cut during the actor's sentence. They cut away to another actor and they overlay the sound from one take on to the vision from another. They overlay the sound of one actor over the vision of another actor.
There are three ways to make a cut but keep in mind the entire scene was likely filmed from start to finish. You're going to cut in between dialogue, you're going to use the dialogue of one actor to LEAD us into another angle where they complete what they are saying or you're going to use a physical action the actor is doing to lead us into another angle (like an actor starts to stand up in his medium shot and then you cut to him completing the action of standing in a master shot.)
Also keep in mind different directors have different ways of working with editors. Some will hover over their shoulder and choose every single thing that goes up there on that screen and others will leave them alone and come in and review it later trusting the editor.
by Anonymous | reply 215 | October 12, 2020 6:32 AM |
R215 That sounds all very interesting. But how long are scenes now?
Most movie directors love green screens. And they pride themselves on having scenes of less than one minute duration. Audiences prefer action over talking heads.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | October 12, 2020 6:44 AM |
R216, I don't want to derail the thread, I just saw something I could respond to while reading other things.
Green Screens and post production and VFX cost money and they take time. There's not a whole lot of that on television for this reason. (When I say TV I'm not really referring to movies airing on tv. I'm not even talking about hour long tv shows about mysterious creatures on HBO or whatever. I'm talking about bang 'em out week by week stuff.) To do that stuff adds in a whole other element (and department) to the process of completing an episode of a show.
The belief was that one minute on the screen is usually one page in the script. That's not always true. It all really depends. Also the length may change at various points. With TV shows that number is a bit off. It could be anywhere from 22 pages for 30 minutes (which accounts for commercials) or longer. Cobra Kai is going doesn't have to worry about commercials and is on streaming where they can run over or under 30 minutes if they want to.
Directors on half hours shows may not want a lot of talking because there isn't a lot of time but most sitcoms are very dialogue heavy. How much action was actually happening on "Two and a Half Men?" On the other hand, remember the series, "Scandal?" There was plenty of action but there were also moments where random characters would bust out and deliver a whole monologue only to get a monologue in response. It worked because those actors taught a masterclass every time they spoke.
As for action over talking heads, that applies mostly to movies. Also it really depends on the show and the genre. It also can depend on who is writing the show. There wasn't a whole lot of action on Difficult People where the entertainment came from what they were saying rather than doing. Occasionally it came from both at the same time. Schitt's Creek also falls into that category. The Gilmore Girls is a perfect example of dialogue driving a show rather than action. Also this isn't counting what actors call "business" on those kinds of shows. Business is basically what they're doing during the scene while they're delivering the dialogue. If Rory is going to be doing her homework she's going to do it while having a conversation with her mother about something or other.
Anyways, back to the ass that was posted at R217

Miss Betty and Tom Austen followed each other this week, and it looks like Oliver deleted all but one or two of his photos of Jessica De Gouw.

Sugar causes depression and all kinds of diseases. There are healthier ways to gain weight, believe it or not. You just have to consume more calories than you can burn off.

Maybe he just really wanted those pancakes.

He seems BORING as mud in that Bello interview. Nice guy vibes though.
Also he looks like Armie Hammer a bit there.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | October 26, 2020 6:37 PM |
^. Those Bello photos are hopelessly unflattering to him AND the clothes.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | October 26, 2020 10:00 PM |
Here's a half-hour remote interview show he did with Collider last week where he shows a bit more personality. He seems to have a good sense of humor, at least.

That is the roundest head I've ever seen on a newborn. Cute kid. Aren't they all on lockdown in London right now though?
by Anonymous | reply 263 | November 9, 2020 11:11 PM |
Yes in theory England went into total lockdown last Thursday. Youāre allowed to meet one other person not from your household but it has to be outdoors. In practice London doesnāt seem much different, except all the pubs and most shops are shut.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | November 10, 2020 10:24 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 266 | November 10, 2020 11:21 AM |
Wow, he can really fit a lot in his mouth all at once at R253! He took a huge load effortlessly. That's quite a talent.
by Anonymous | reply 267 | November 10, 2020 11:24 AM |
Didnāt he just arrive somewhere else to shoot a movie? Some other European city.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | November 11, 2020 12:00 AM |
He was in Greece for that movie with Dakota Johnson. Maybe he wrapped on it.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | November 11, 2020 12:19 AM |
He posted on Instagram that he wrapped last week and went back home to London. This was right before lockdown, and Greece is part of the UK's approved travel corridor so you do not have to self-isolate when you return.

Weird "bromance." They honestly look related.

Nice cast. I hope OJC and Jack Farthing have a love scene. (I know nothing about the story, but it's good to have a dream.)
by Anonymous | reply 273 | November 12, 2020 5:38 PM |
Unfortunately OJC plays Dakota Fanning's toxic babydaddy in this one, but I for one support your dream R273.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | November 12, 2020 9:52 PM |
This OJ-C fansite says that he was rumored to have dated Luke Evans back in 2012. I wasn't following either of them back then and have never heard this rumor though they were in a movie together back then. What do we think?
by Anonymous | reply 275 | November 15, 2020 11:46 PM |
Is OJC quite tall or is Evans quite short?
by Anonymous | reply 276 | November 17, 2020 4:46 PM |
OJK is 191 cm
Luke E is182 cm

OJC is the DL favorite for who should be the next Bond in this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | November 18, 2020 10:40 PM |
He hasn't made it onto ANY of this year's "Ones to Watch" lists from the major industry rags unlike in 2018 when Hill House managed to put him on a few. This dude really needs a better publicist.

[quote]He hasn't made it onto ANY of this year's "Ones to Watch" lists from the major industry rags unlike in 2018 when Hill House managed to put him on a few. This dude really needs a better publicist.
He really does. When hound dog faced Paul Mescal gets write up after write up and inclusion in People's Sexist Men issue, and OJC gets nothing, there's a problem. He needs to level up.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | November 20, 2020 12:47 AM |
Most likely Oliver doesn't have an aggressive publicist.

WHAAAAAAAAT! Why does he always look like heās at least 6ā2ā? Thatās the impression I got from watching him in The Girl On The Train and from every picture Iāve ever seen of him. I am shocked at this.

Correct.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | January 12, 2021 2:17 AM |
I'm guessing OJC can grow sideburns in about two days. No shame!
by Anonymous | reply 288 | March 20, 2021 8:00 PM |
He could up his profile by becoming Ariana Grande's next gayish fiance.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | March 20, 2021 8:32 PM |
The latest rumor circulating social media is that he's been living with Tom Austen.
And OJC is filming 4 movies this year and they're all period pieces so it's likely we haven't seen the last of the sideburns.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | March 21, 2021 10:16 PM |
Is Tom Austen auditioning for a New Romantic flick?
by Anonymous | reply 291 | March 21, 2021 10:18 PM |
Stinky linky, R291. According to Tom, he's spent the last year at (OJC's?) home, writing several scripts and TV pilots, some of which has development interest, and his interest has shifted a bit away from acting.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | March 21, 2021 10:21 PM |
Lots of male eye candy in OJC's upcoming films -- Theo James is also in "Mr. Malcolm's List" with him, and Fionn Whitehead is cast in "Emily."
by Anonymous | reply 293 | March 24, 2021 6:00 PM |
It may have already been posted, but Tomās real-life brother is hottie actor Freddy Carter, whoās starring with Ben Barnes in Shadow and Bone. Good genes.

My first BF was an English Jew like OJC his natural scent was an aphrodisiac and got me instantly hard.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | March 24, 2021 7:56 PM |
There's been a photo leaked from the film with Theo and Oliver and Sope Dirisu from Gangs Of London who is also very handsome. One of the extras posted it and then deleted it but of course it made its way to social media anyway. That's Theo and Oliver front and center - they're both wearing wigs.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | March 25, 2021 4:12 AM |
Tom and Freddy don't look much alike except in the eyebrows.
There's lots of eye candy in the two-part French-language Three Musketeers theatrical adaptation he's doing later this year too. Pio MarmaĆÆ, Romain Duris, Francois Civil, Louis Garrell who is playing OJC's foil, Vincent Cassel if he's your thing. Both films are entirely in French which OJC speaks fluently. How very Emily In Paris of him.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | March 25, 2021 4:29 AM |
I could have sworn I remember reading that he was gay but googling now comes up with nothing except his role in Man in the Orange Shirt. Plus his wiki states heās dating a woman.
Iām so confused.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | May 8, 2021 6:08 AM |
More on-set photos, please!
by Anonymous | reply 299 | May 8, 2021 9:30 PM |
He's not dating a woman to anyone's knowledge. His last public relationship was with Jessica De Gouw and it ended by 2018 at the latest.

by Anonymous | reply 301 | June 15, 2021 11:31 PM |
Still keeping a very low profile, but he just got cast in an Apple TV series with DL fave Francois Arnaud and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
I think he's going to be in five or six things in the next year.

by Anonymous | reply 303 | June 16, 2021 11:36 PM |

No OJC news from The Lost Daughter premiere at the Venice Film Festival? Sigh...
by Anonymous | reply 305 | September 7, 2021 6:48 PM |
I think he's still shooting the TV show for Apple in Canada so he probably couldn't make it, also his role in that is apparently very small.
He also got dropped from the Three Musketeers remake, probably due to schedule overlaps with the show. He was replaced with Jacob Fortune-Lloyd. What a downgrade.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | September 7, 2021 8:56 PM |
Please let my fantasy be real: Oliver Jackson-Cohen and FranƧois Arnaud enjoyed a passionate fling together.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | September 11, 2021 6:15 PM |
FranƧois has a twink bf IRL who has been with him in Vancouver for much of this shoot, and who knows who OJC is boning these days, but I would settle for R309's scenario on screen.

by Anonymous | reply 323 | December 30, 2021 1:43 AM |
Looks like they're at least still friends, though pandemic filming schedules meant they weren't in the same countries for most of this last year.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | December 30, 2021 2:58 AM |
Watched The Lost Daughter yesterday. I think OJC had maybe six lines and about as many minutes of screen time. I hope he enjoyed that Greek-island working vacation! He certainly looked good in a black tank top.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | January 5, 2022 7:03 PM |
R325 he looked like a had a former fat kidās body with thick looking legs. He had love handles in that black tank top.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | January 5, 2022 8:00 PM |
This man does not have love handles. Are you the same weirdo that keeps posting that he's anorexic and other weird shit about his perfectly fine body?

He looked very nice, if a bit sunburnt, at the pre-BAFTA parties a couple of weeks ago.

He's looking GREAT (and still hairy).
by Anonymous | reply 331 | July 27, 2022 12:12 AM |
The show on the other hand looks like derivative try-hard trash.
And what the fuck is going on with Reese Witherspoon's eyes? Scary.
by Anonymous | reply 332 | July 27, 2022 12:14 AM |
Yikes, The AV Club is not a fan of Surface (and said OJC was "one-note" but blamed the script, not him).
by Anonymous | reply 333 | July 28, 2022 10:03 PM |
I just saw the Variety review and it isn't good either - seems like they are all saying the cast is good but the show itself is not awful, just very mediocre. Surprising considering they sent Witherspoon to the premiere and how much marketing they're doing for it. Most Apple TV+ shows I've seen have been really good. I've said it before but OJC needs a better agent. Everything he's worked on for the last few years has been bit supporting roles in low-rent mediocre garbage that hasn't gotten his career any further along. It's like professionally he's been spinning his wheels for a decade.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | July 28, 2022 10:43 PM |
He has probably been greylisted.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | July 28, 2022 10:51 PM |
Witherspoon has too much money and not enough editorial sense.

R335 whatever for? All the mental illness?
by Anonymous | reply 337 | July 28, 2022 10:54 PM |
Well, when was the last time he had a beard? He makes Pride posts ever year... He's lowkey but he's not exactly playing the Leading Man game.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | July 28, 2022 11:07 PM |
It's been years. His last and only beard came out as queer and dating a woman last month. This year he made a Pride post on the day his movie Mr Malcolm's List premiered... the one he asked the director to make his character gay for and she said no... but didn't post about the movie premiering that day. LOL salty little bitch.
