She's fucking 80 years old FFS!!!!!!!!!

I saw her Broadway play late last year. She was hysterically funny and had there been Tony Awards, she may have been nominated along with James Cromwell. Maybe they'll combine the half of this season that there was with the half of the next season.

by Anonymousreply 1August 11, 2020 1:20 AM

VERY underrated actress

by Anonymousreply 2August 11, 2020 3:09 AM

She's been nominated 4 times which is pretty good in an actors career. The Great White Hope (1970), All the President's Men (1976), Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), and Testament (1983).

by Anonymousreply 3August 11, 2020 3:13 AM

She was very bitter and snide towards M winning for Kramer Versus Kramer. Someone once linked a video of Meryl addressing the issue on DL. Anyone have it?

by Anonymousreply 4August 11, 2020 3:26 AM

Is that the one where Meryl ridicules the idea of paying Time or a similar magazine to put her on the cover?

by Anonymousreply 5August 11, 2020 3:29 AM

Brilliant actress... but she made the choice to leave Hollywood for a political career, and with that went her Oscar chances

by Anonymousreply 6August 11, 2020 3:39 AM

No. She has dropped off the radar of Hollywood and hasn't had a hit movie for years. I doubt that it will happen now. She can rest on her past glories.

by Anonymousreply 7August 11, 2020 3:40 AM

Her son was arrested for some sort of child porn offense.

by Anonymousreply 8August 11, 2020 3:42 AM

Jane Alexander or "Quig" as her pals call her - short for Quigley, her maiden name, is kind of mean, grim, and incredibly full of herself. I hope she doesn't win shit!

In all my years working for, around, and serving celebs, only ONE had the cajones to ask, "Do you KNOW who I am?"

The Quig!

by Anonymousreply 9August 11, 2020 5:03 AM

R8 And her daughter in law wrote and performed a one woman show about pedo hubby.

I worked with her around 1990 and she was unfailingly gracious. Completely professional. I wouldn’t say she’s a barrel of laughs, but she’s intelligent and thoughtful.

She gave everyone in the cast and crew a present when the job was over.

by Anonymousreply 11August 11, 2020 6:21 AM

^^ now, Kate Nelligan, I might add....

by Anonymousreply 12August 11, 2020 6:22 AM

Testament is very good.

by Anonymousreply 13August 11, 2020 6:34 AM

No, OP, Jane Alexander will never win an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 14August 11, 2020 6:34 AM

M v. Jane for the next Feud.

by Anonymousreply 15August 11, 2020 6:43 AM

Like Laura Linney and Christine Lahti, she was too bland in the looks department to ever reach the top level of stardom.

by Anonymousreply 16August 11, 2020 6:45 AM

Laura Linney may still win one. Like Jane, Christine Lahti missed her chance.

by Anonymousreply 17August 11, 2020 6:48 AM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 18August 11, 2020 6:53 AM

Jane reminded me of a taller, slimmer Sada Thompson. Perfect diction and exuded common sense.

by Anonymousreply 19August 11, 2020 6:57 AM

No Linney and Lahti are too different animals and I would say of the three of them, Linney has the most range.

by Anonymousreply 20August 11, 2020 8:12 AM

Lahti was good in Gloria recently.

by Anonymousreply 21August 11, 2020 8:22 AM

Yeah, a little pillow on which she had needlepointed "Do You Know Who I Am?"

Jane Alexander is liked and respected at least by the people she works with, and those who hire her. Christine Lahti is not. Ask around.

Jane Alexander BLASTED Meryl Streep

Asked if she is jealous of Meryl Streep, Jane Alexander tells the Boston Globe YES

Jane seemed particularly incensed by the fact that Meryl’s picture is on the cover of Time Magazine in connection with the cover of "The French Lieutenant’s Woman." Jane called it "a fluke. That cover is a combination of politics and luck. It’s media machinery set into motion. And it fills a need. The public wants its heroines, needs heroines. It’s America’s equivalent to royalty. I’ve never part of that. Yes I regret it.."

Meryl Streep response?

"Look, I don’t know why that happened. I didn’t call up Time magazine and say "Look, I’ll give you $500 if you put me on your cover." There’s nothing I can do about it. It does make things difficult with my friends, even though they try – my real friends – try hard not to have it make a difference. But of course it does. Acting is this country is a lot like a sporting event. There’s a lot of competition, all of these award ceremonies – this is the best, this is the second best, this is the third best. This is the best this, this is the best that. This is the winner, this is the loser. I’m on the cover of Time, so Jane Alexander feels like a loser and I have to feel like I should feel like a winner? I didn’t win at Wimbledon; I made a movie!"

Yep and Lahti said she'll take it.

by Anonymousreply 27August 12, 2020 2:32 AM

No.

Next question.

by Anonymousreply 28August 12, 2020 2:33 AM

R24 What M. said is basically true. There is also a degree of playing 'the game' which M. has done a little but not to the extent of far less talented thespians.

At the end of the day it is just a job and about earning money. Even if most of the films M. has made will be forgotten (she has barely appeared in any classics) it doesn't really matter. At the end of the day it is about making M.

Odd that Jane Alexander would make such a fuss about nothing. It isn't like Alexander has been known to seek out being in the public eye and she should be grateful that she has had a very successful career by most standards and can walk around without anybody noticing her or prying into her personal life. Like M. Jane has made appeared in very few classics (maybe All the Presidents Men and I don't think that is really a classic film).

by Anonymousreply 29August 12, 2020 2:48 AM

Loved her in Poltergeist.

Where's the "incensed" part? She sounds to be speaking quite objectively.

by Anonymousreply 32August 12, 2020 5:55 AM

R24 What a find! Totally loved that interview. Thanks for posting!

by Anonymousreply 33August 12, 2020 7:31 AM

Wonderful actress. I've only seen her in All the President's Men, but she's someone I've never forgotten.

I don't dare watch Testament, it seems like such a depressing thought. Yet I probably should.

by Anonymousreply 34August 12, 2020 8:05 AM

R34 Testament is depressing as hell as yes you should watch it.

by Anonymousreply 35August 12, 2020 8:24 AM

I have Kramer vs Kramer and All the President's Men and she never registered with me. When I found out that she got two Oscar nominations I was surprised and I just can't remember what she did in those movies to warrant them. I also watched Testament and I didn't think her performance was that great. She's just bland, bland, bland.

by Anonymousreply 36August 12, 2020 11:19 AM

Isn’t G also 80? I feel for these old losers.
