March 13, 2020: When COVID got real

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announced they were poz.

The NBA cancelled in a panic.

And then new normal started. I wonder if we will remember this day as the “After” point.

You're off by one day.

The Tom Hanks/Rita Wilson announcement on the 12th, which was also the day the WHO declared the coronavirus a global pandemic.

I vividly remember it was a Thursday, and also vividly remember watching Rachel Maddow's show and thinking afterward it's going to get really bad.

But it's all about the election. It will all magically go away November 4.

It was Wednesday night, March 11th that all those things happened. I'll never forget it. Broadway closed the next day.

r3- you're off by a day too. NBA shutdown on the 11th and that's the night we found out about Tom Hanks.

It really didn't get "real" for me until March 16th. It was the last day I went into the office for work (though I didn't know at the time it would be). I had stopped at Panera to pick up something for breakfast and they had blocked off the seating area so you couldn't stay after getting your food. I talked about how strange it was with co-workers that day, and before we left we had been told to be prepared not to come back into the office for awhile. I jokingly said as I was leaving, "Have a good Easter!", not really expecting us to not be back in the office before then. Wow, was I wrong.
