If Biden’s VP pick is Gretchen Whitmer

There’ll be revolt among the base, apparently.

Also, the media will crucify him. And her.

by Anonymousreply 201August 11, 2020 8:20 PM

The media definitely want a black woman.

As for the "base"? Which base do you mean? There are a few different bases.

by Anonymousreply 1August 10, 2020 4:51 AM

I think it would be a bad move if he does. This VP search has commanded so much attention and speculation that, if his choice turns out to be another white person, it's just going to invite more hand-wringing over endemic racism. People will say the bar is higher for black female politicians than it is for white ones, and I'd have to agree with them.

by Anonymousreply 2August 10, 2020 4:55 AM

This is what I've been saying in another thread and they keep telling me that I'm wrong. Well, it looks like I'm right after all.

by Anonymousreply 3August 10, 2020 4:58 AM

She won EVERY county in MI for Governor...I think she rocks...

by Anonymousreply 4August 10, 2020 4:58 AM

I love the bait and swish of all of this. Whitmer takes a meeting and now everyone is saying she's the one. Nobody knows shit.

by Anonymousreply 5August 10, 2020 4:59 AM

Maybe Whitmer could do black face and it would all blow over.

by Anonymousreply 6August 10, 2020 4:59 AM

Everybody assumes he's considering Whitmer for VP now because she went to Delaware to see him. Word is that he is also interviewing prospects for his Cabinet. He wants to announce a few of his choices before the election so people will be assured of competency once he takes office.

So just relax folks. It's all good.

by Anonymousreply 7August 10, 2020 4:59 AM

I’m black and I’m good with whomever Joe chooses. The black women in my family are also good with joe’s choice. There are sections of black media who are demanding Joe pick a black woman but they don’t speak for the majority of black people.

by Anonymousreply 8August 10, 2020 5:01 AM

12% population, 99% representation now!!!

by Anonymousreply 9August 10, 2020 5:04 AM

Whitmer in a Cabinet position is fine. Whitmer in the VP slot would be a betrayal and an unforced error. Why is the Biden team even floating this? It's destructive.

by Anonymousreply 10August 10, 2020 5:06 AM

R6, We'll see what happens.

by Anonymousreply 11August 10, 2020 5:08 AM

If we're not going to get Elizabeth Warren, then Whitmer is a good alternate.

As long as it's not Harris or Rice, then it's fine.

Just because the media and the overly vocal minority of the Democratic Party are demanding that the VP choice MUST be black, doesn't mean that Biden has to do it.

He doesn't owe them a goddamned thing, LEAST OF ALL THE MEDIA, who helped elect Donald Trump in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 12August 10, 2020 5:11 AM

They are not floating it R10. It's just the media and everyone else speculating.

by Anonymousreply 13August 10, 2020 5:11 AM

[quote]The media definitely want a black woman.

It is irrelevant what the media want. It's what the voters want.

by Anonymousreply 14August 10, 2020 5:14 AM

Maxine Waters will be extremely displeased.

by Anonymousreply 15August 10, 2020 5:18 AM

Or maybe he is doing her (and possibly others) the courtesy of telling her in person that she is not going to be the VP pick.

by Anonymousreply 16August 10, 2020 5:19 AM

Biden: “Are you ready?”

Sounds like tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 19August 10, 2020 5:22 AM

From Wednesday.

by Anonymousreply 20August 10, 2020 5:24 AM

By the convention R19 - it has little to do with choosing a running mate and everything to do with build-up and polling. So far so good.

by Anonymousreply 21August 10, 2020 5:29 AM

It doesn't matter who it is for VP.

There are no swing voters out there any longer. . No one is anxiously awaiting the VP announcement.

There are Trump voters. Then the rest of us.

by Anonymousreply 22August 10, 2020 6:15 AM

It'll never happen. But will anyone other than me love it if he picks Lori Lightfoot?

by Anonymousreply 23August 10, 2020 6:24 AM

Why, is she trans?

by Anonymousreply 24August 10, 2020 6:49 AM

The only people objecting to Whitmer are Trump supporters. The Democrats will be fine. She should be a great running mate.

by Anonymousreply 25August 10, 2020 6:57 AM

Whitmer would be an awesome thumb in the eye of (or thumb of the nose to) Trumpers.

by Anonymousreply 26August 10, 2020 2:26 PM

Why would Trumpers find Whitmer any more irritating than any other VP pick?

by Anonymousreply 27August 10, 2020 2:37 PM

R27, it's not about whether they're irritating to the cult: any woman selected is going to be irritating.

It's about what kind of fodder the person provides the cult, to exaggerate and fabricate lies around. Has Whitmer dabbled in Cuban socialism? Has she prosecuted innocent Black men? Did she misstate something to Congress during a hearing on a foreign incident? Did she excuse cop violence? Is she for "huge structural change" to the economy? Is she not religious? Is she in any part an ethnic minority?

Anything they can get a hold of to make into a source of revulsion and fear, they will.

All I see so far: she was a county prosecutor briefly, and her parents are wealthy (father was a health insurance CEO), and her virus restrictions were a little draconian to some (not to me)

by Anonymousreply 28August 10, 2020 2:45 PM

[quote]Just because the media and the overly vocal minority of the Democratic Party are demanding that the VP choice MUST be black, doesn't mean that Biden has to do it.

That "vocal minority" single handedly saved him from having to drop out, so sorry, he does owe them.

Again, if you don't like this, why don't place the blame on Biden who opened his mouth up and started all of this? I love how the Biden fangurls want this to be everyone else's fault when he put this out there in the first place.

[quote]The only people objecting to Whitmer are Trump supporters.

Yeah, great pick, if this is the message already being trotted out in defense of her.

by Anonymousreply 29August 10, 2020 2:49 PM

I think she would be a great VP pick. I kind of eliminated her as a possibility a few weeks ago but the Michigan lieutenant governor has been doing a lot of media interviews lately so who knows?

by Anonymousreply 30August 10, 2020 2:50 PM

Whitmer has no baggage, really. I think she'd be the best we've chance we have to win this thing. Blacks won't ever be content with any VP choice. Biden served under the only black president we've had. If that doesn't pass the smell test with them ppl then I don't know what will.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 31August 10, 2020 2:52 PM

Love her. I would be ecstatic if she gets it.

by Anonymousreply 32August 10, 2020 2:52 PM

R33, it's called grace under pressure: she didn't overreact or give in.

by Anonymousreply 34August 10, 2020 2:56 PM

Sounds like you're the bot, R33.

by Anonymousreply 35August 10, 2020 2:57 PM

Could be that this isn't even Biden's choice. There are so many factions in the Democratic party that are cashing in their chips right now, cause they smell blood in the water, that they want their candidate of choice to be his running mate.

I think Biden screwed himself when he committed to choosing a woman as VP. Why not just say "I will choose the best possible person to be my running mate". He wouldn't have boxed himself in like he did, and he could have chosen Mayor Pete - got to look beyond 2020 at this point as I think, if things work out, the Dems could control the WH for 12 years at least if they play their cards right.

But even now, even knowing the game the Repugs are playing, the Dems can't get their shit together and are already bitching and rumours are flying about not supporting Joe if he chooses the "wrong" candidate, in their opinion.

The eyes should be on the prize - defeating Frump and his corrupt GOP. End of story.

So no matter who Joe chooses, vote blue up and down the ballot and wash away the stink that has made its way into the WH and government. Support the Biden/Harris-Rice-Warren-Whitmer-Demings-Duckworth-Baldwin ticket no matter what.

by Anonymousreply 36August 10, 2020 3:01 PM

Officially about 5 million American deathfats are infected with the coronavirus, and all you deathfats still want to be perfectionistas?

Just gag and die and go pick anyone you want in hell. I will just vote for Uncle Joe with any vp he chooses!! I don't fucking care anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 37August 10, 2020 3:01 PM

Turn off the noise! The assholes in the media, goaded by Republicans and "others" are trollling. They want controversy. They a re working to suppress turn out among key demographics. If Biden chooses a woman of color for VP, these fuckers will be writing articles about how he is alienating the Whtie vote.

Fuck this! DO NOT BE DISTRACTED. Focus on the state elections. Focus on making sure we have ballot security. Fight voter suppression. Raise hell about Election Security, and camp out at the Secretaries of state offices to demand the elections are fair. Demand that we have observers when they count votes. Do not let them bar access to legitimate Poll Watchers. Election Security is the main issue. And work hard on turnout. Everything else is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 38August 10, 2020 3:01 PM

He should chose a hot Asian chick as the VP. If anything can get white men mobilised, it is a hot Asian chick

by Anonymousreply 39August 10, 2020 3:10 PM

Because, r27, Trumpers with guns on her Capitol's steps threatened to behead her over her Covid restrictions.

by Anonymousreply 40August 10, 2020 5:09 PM

R36 is 100% correct. Eyes on the Prize!! Vote Blue No Matter Who!

BLUE VOTES MATTER!

by Anonymousreply 41August 10, 2020 5:13 PM

It has to be someone Joe feels comfortable with and who is capable of stepping into the top job. I don't have any view one way or the other of this woman but would be behind the ticket if she is his choice.

by Anonymousreply 42August 10, 2020 6:24 PM

If all of them were running for the 2024 nomination right now, I think it's between her and Duckworth. Ignore middle America at your peril.

by Anonymousreply 43August 10, 2020 6:28 PM

I hope he doesn't pick her, I want her to stay right here in Michigan where she's been doing a fantastic job.

by Anonymousreply 48August 10, 2020 6:55 PM

Look. IMO this is a feint. Biden and Jennifer Granholm, the former governor of Michigan, are very close friends. Look for Granholm to get an ambassadorship or some other job from Biden. Wouldn't surprise me at all. Granholm is Canadian by birth. Whitmer is also a close friend of Granholm's. So it is not out of the ordinary for Graholm to hook up Whitmer for facetime and more. It will benefit Michigan greatly to have Biden's attention. He needs those votes . Michigan will go Blue for sure. So, either Whitmer will stay governor, and benefit from the generosity of a grateful President, or she will get a cabinet position. But IMO she is not being chosen for the VP spot.

by Anonymousreply 49August 10, 2020 6:56 PM

MI WI and PA are the three that would win it for Dems vs. 2016.

by Anonymousreply 50August 10, 2020 6:56 PM

She couldn't handle her own state over something simple as people wearing masks.

Possibly, though you could also say she held firm while Mike DeWine in Ohio caved, knowing that the freaks with assault rifles (in greater numbers than before) would be on his doorstep next.

by Anonymousreply 51August 10, 2020 8:13 PM

Whatever is going on --- and something is going on at this point, something must have throw everything back up in the air --- I am confident part of the delay is collecting data on Plan B.

They are not just going to go with their gut. So if there are risks - like a black base revolt - they will know it and will have made a calculation that the pick correspondingly makes up for the loss in other quarters.

I bet this went wrong two weeks ago and they're having trouble with the field data or it's taking longer to figure out the way forward based on the field data.

by Anonymousreply 52August 10, 2020 8:27 PM

[quote]There are no swing voters out there any longer. . No one is anxiously awaiting the VP announcement.

People are anxiously awaiting it since Joe will be the oldest President in the history of the United States. Also everyone fully expects the person to run after his single term.

[quote]Whitmer in a Cabinet position is fine. Whitmer in the VP slot would be a betrayal and an unforced error. Why is the Biden team even floating this? It's destructive.

My fear is that he'll pick someone who was never in contention (or rather we were lead to believe was) at all and THAT will cause a bit of outrage for a while.

If it's a black person the right will instantly go on attack but otherwise people would be fine.

If he chose Warren people would be upset but at least the rational is she's been out there working with him and stuck in the contest longer than anyone else. So that wouldn't last long. She already has an audience that likes her. The Bernie Bros would scream but they would anyway.

If it was another white person that wasn't Warren many more people would be furious.

However, everyone would get over it in a month no matter who he chooses unless they have a shitty record.

by Anonymousreply 53August 10, 2020 8:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 55August 10, 2020 10:53 PM

There is a problem as I see it. I don't think Jill Biden is a fan of Kamala. I think Chris Dodd, and that old guard, who have been close friends of Joe's for 40 years, were speaking for her, as much as for themselves when they said they were still upset at her for going after Joe. Jill Biden will influence his choice. Now, she would feel comfortable with Bass. But no one knows Bass and the average person is not going to engage. The fact is Susan Rice meets everyone's comfort level. Jill knows Susan. She's familiar with her. So factor that in.

by Anonymousreply 56August 10, 2020 11:08 PM

Biden picks a black woman for his VP and Trump dumps Pence and picks a white woman for his VP to gin up his racist supporters.

by Anonymousreply 57August 10, 2020 11:11 PM

[quote]There is a problem as I see it. I don't think Jill Biden is a fan of Kamala

If she's the best person, you'd gotta suck it up and deal with it. Obama let Biden's digs slide. That's what they do. It's not about your feelings. It's about what's best for the country.

by Anonymousreply 58August 10, 2020 11:27 PM

[quote] If she's the best person, you'd gotta suck it up and deal with it

Considering that Kamala Harris is NOT the best person, I'd say there isn't a problem.

Well, to a majority of the democrats she is.

by Anonymousreply 60August 10, 2020 11:42 PM

Joy Reid just now about Whitmer: "It's like they're just trying to find anybody else so they don't have to pick one of the Black women."

Um yeah, I wonder why that is Joy? It couldn't be because most of America finds these Black women to be problematic.

by Anonymousreply 65August 10, 2020 11:49 PM

[quote] Joy Reid just now about Whitmer: "It's like they're just trying to find anybody else so they don't have to pick one of the Black women."

With an attitude like hers, it's no surprise that Joe wouldn't want some big-mouthed bossy bitch trying to act like SHE was the President.

Sorry!

by Anonymousreply 66August 10, 2020 11:52 PM

Van Jones and others issued an open letter saying if he doesn't choose a black woman he will lose the election.

by Anonymousreply 67August 10, 2020 11:52 PM

zzzzzz

by Anonymousreply 68August 10, 2020 11:56 PM

I'd love for all these people to SHUT THE FUCK UP! Because if he does choose a Black woman and he loses, then this will all be for naught and they'll have no one to blame but themselves.

Biden needs to choose the BEST CANDIDATE. Period. End of story.

And I wish Joy Reid would just go away. Why did MSNBC give her the 7pm slot???

So Biden chooses a Black Woman... all of the haters better accept it, applaud the choice, go out of their way to claim it was the best decision Biden has ever made politically and that there is no one better, and turn out in droves like they did in '08 and '12 and vote Biden in as President.

by Anonymousreply 69August 10, 2020 11:56 PM

This is Joe Biden's own fault for choosing to play Identity Politics. He should have just said that he'll pick the best person for the job, rather than making an Affirmative Action appointment.

by Anonymousreply 70August 10, 2020 11:56 PM

[quote] all of the haters better accept it, applaud the choice, go out of their way to claim it was the best decision Biden has ever made politically and that there is no one better

Umm.... but that wouldn't be the truth.

What a strange thing to write.

by Anonymousreply 71August 10, 2020 11:59 PM

Oh, fuck off r70.

Your cult leader Trump embodies Affirmative Action for White, Wealthy, Ignorant, Males.

And, of course, his qualifications to be the POTUS were only too well known, right?

Asshole.

by Anonymousreply 72August 11, 2020 12:00 AM

I don’t think van jones can speak on anything, he’s been proven a hack.

It’s doubtful Biden is going to pick a Governor. They need to be where they are. The problem is too many assholes are butting in. That fool that advocated against Harris for Bass who turned up as a commie.

Then I think he was going all in with Rice and then her keystone involvement. He is just throwing names out to see how people react.

In the end it’s got to be Kamala. Who gives a shit if she is planning 2024 run in the background as long as she gets her job as vp done.

by Anonymousreply 73August 11, 2020 12:01 AM

She's awesome - but sadly she can't be VP this time around.

by Anonymousreply 74August 11, 2020 12:04 AM

I love Joy, but I do get annoyed when she lets her inner Khive out. It's important that Joe pick the one that he's comfortable with. Joy doesn't know what came out in the vetting. Joy doesn't know how long it takes to prepare the VP candidate for this new role. You have to update the logo and get the merch in place. There is a ton stuff that has to happen after the decision is made and Joy knows that. It will be interesting to see if her enthusiasm extends to another black candidate if it isn't Kamala.

by Anonymousreply 75August 11, 2020 12:04 AM

Block R70 and your entire DL experience becomes better.

by Anonymousreply 76August 11, 2020 12:05 AM

[quote]Who gives a shit if she is planning 2024 run in the background as long as she gets her job as vp done.

But that seems to be the dilemma. Will she do anything other than plan her 2024 run?

by Anonymousreply 77August 11, 2020 12:06 AM

Harris is going to be so easy for Trump and the Republicans to take down. She couldn't even defend her record against Tulsi Gabbard's attacks.

by Anonymousreply 78August 11, 2020 12:06 AM

And if he picks a black woman and loses they will blame the black woman and say America wasn't ready for a black female VP.

by Anonymousreply 79August 11, 2020 12:07 AM

R67: Yes, PDiddy was also on this. I always get my political advice from PuffDaddy

by Anonymousreply 80August 11, 2020 12:10 AM

He should wait and announce the VP during the convention. It would cause tremendous excitement and get everyone to actually watch the convention. Otherwise, nobody will watch.

by Anonymousreply 81August 11, 2020 12:12 AM

R77, yes she can. At least for 2 years and then it’s pretty easy to have a small group in 2023 and then 2024 you go all in.

by Anonymousreply 82August 11, 2020 12:15 AM

Warren has been able to raise the most money for Biden than the other VP candidates.

by Anonymousreply 83August 11, 2020 12:15 AM

Can you just imagine if Joe picks Tammy Baldwin the openly gay Senator from Minnesota? Joy Reid would be so mad that a WHITE LESBIAN was chosen over a black woman. Joy's head would explode and she would probably start up again with her homophobic hate mongering. MSNBC would have a lot of explaining to do.

by Anonymousreply 84August 11, 2020 12:15 AM

This is what happens when you play to identity politics. Nobody is going to be happy. He should have just kept mouth shut and picked the best person and then hammered home the bread and butter issues that impact all Americans.

by Anonymousreply 85August 11, 2020 12:16 AM

At this point, people are just over it already. Announce it and get it done with. People are going through so much as it is. No one is in the mood for these games.

And it would boost his campaign going into the convention also. Which is needed right now.

by Anonymousreply 86August 11, 2020 12:17 AM

I said last week R86 that Biden needed to announce his pick immediately. As the say, under promise and over deliver. Right now he isn't looking for good because he missed his deadline of announcing his VP choice.

by Anonymousreply 87August 11, 2020 12:19 AM

[quote] This is what happens when you play to identity politics. Nobody is going to be happy.

Thank you, R85! I've been saying this all along.

If Biden had kept his decision for himself and his team to decide, it would have worked out the best.

Despite the external pressure, he wouldn't be seen as disappointing anyone, because he wouldn't have made any promises to them.

Instead, everyone is trying to get their hand in the process, and it's turning out to be a cluster fuck!

And it's Biden's own damned fault!

by Anonymousreply 88August 11, 2020 12:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 89August 11, 2020 12:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 90August 11, 2020 12:21 AM

Every time I watched the View over the past few months all Sunny Hostin did was ask each and every guest if Biden should pick a Black woman. Even Whoopi was getting tired of her repeating this question ad nauseum. I hope Biden goes with the best person for HIM and not for the Sunny Hostins of the world. She really became super annoying about it.

by Anonymousreply 91August 11, 2020 12:23 AM

I posted this on another thread... I think they are smart enough not to play coy in a way that pisses everybody off... the deep vet fucked up the plan and now they're trying to course correct. It's the only logical explanation.

by Anonymousreply 92August 11, 2020 12:24 AM

R85

Bullshit. No one says this about Republicans who are all about identity politics.

We already have a pretty much full white party. Why do the Dems tone down their batting for POC? Dems NEED an energized black vote. It’s why Republicans always target and attempt to suppress black voters.

by Anonymousreply 93August 11, 2020 12:25 AM

He’s selected his running mate. Announcement Wednesday or so. It’ll leak of course.

by Anonymousreply 95August 11, 2020 12:28 AM

Biden most likely will have a Black AG and Black Supreme Court nominee, he will have done more than Obama if that is the case. He has the absolute right to choose someone he likes the best and not be hostage to anyone particular group of people. If Blacks want to punish Biden and not vote, lucky Trump. Classic cut off your nose to spite your face. Who will suffer the most?

by Anonymousreply 96August 11, 2020 12:29 AM

But amid the national outcry over racism and police violence after the killing of George Floyd, Mr. Biden faced increasingly urgent calls this summer to select a Black woman.

For months, he and his campaign have heard from strategists and activists who have made the case for an African-American vice-presidential choice. Polling has shown that many voters give Mr. Biden broad political leeway to make his selection. But a number of party strategists have argued that selecting a Black running mate would energize voters, and reflect the central role Black women have played in the Democratic Party and in reviving Mr. Biden’s once-flailing candidacy during the primary.

“Black women have become excited about the possibility, and have a serious sense that the vice president’s success thus far would not have been possible without their investment, their confidence in him,” said Leah D. Daughtry, a veteran party strategist who has spoken with Mr. Biden and his team about selecting a Black vice-presidential candidate. “The majority of the finalists are African-American. The campaign would have a lot of work to do to explain to people why none of these women were picked. That’s going to be a tall order. A big book of business.”

by Anonymousreply 97August 11, 2020 12:33 AM

Biden's first SC Justice nominee should be Merrick Garland.

by Anonymousreply 98August 11, 2020 12:34 AM

Unfortunately voter suppression will be at an all-time high. Hope we can push through.

by Anonymousreply 99August 11, 2020 12:34 AM

R93, WTF???? Republicans politics is so homogeneous that it is considered white supremacy.

by Anonymousreply 100August 11, 2020 12:34 AM

I don’t like the pressure the media and others are putting on him to select a particular type: Black, progressive, etc. It’s kind of obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 101August 11, 2020 12:34 AM

He is 67 years old Della. We need someone younger that will have many years on the bench.

by Anonymousreply 102August 11, 2020 12:36 AM

[quote]Biden needed to announce his pick immediately.

No he didn't. This is all because people are too fucking impatient and the 24 hour news cycle just pushes this shit and keeps people stirred up. There are lot of people on cable news paid millions of dollars to speculate. Maybe the solution is to turn off cable news for a few days.

I also want to add that those of you who keep going on about identity politics, aren't doing yourselves any favors. There is not a single black candidate for the VP slot that isn't qualified for it.

by Anonymousreply 103August 11, 2020 12:36 AM

The USPS is newly crazy slow already. This plus limited polling places with bad equipment as in Georgia.

by Anonymousreply 104August 11, 2020 12:36 AM

R101, i found the letter signed by 100 black men to be rather insulting.

by Anonymousreply 105August 11, 2020 12:36 AM

This thread reeks of rancid Freeper/Russian/ Trump trash.

by Anonymousreply 106August 11, 2020 12:36 AM

[quote]This is all because people are too fucking impatient

You're right. There's a million other things they could be doing.

Oh, wait......

by Anonymousreply 107August 11, 2020 12:38 AM

Sit down, Della. I remember when you thought the death of 30 people on a boat was hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 108August 11, 2020 12:39 AM

Della, it’s a bit early in the evening for that. Have you been drinking?

by Anonymousreply 109August 11, 2020 12:40 AM

Yes he did R103. There is not a lot of enthusiasm for Biden. Announcing his VP pick early would have draw enthusiasm and they could be doubling down on campaigning.

by Anonymousreply 110August 11, 2020 12:41 AM

No one was interested in Biden until Jim Clyburn called for people to support him.

by Anonymousreply 111August 11, 2020 12:42 AM

100 black leaders and celebs urge him to chose a black woman.

Pick Val Demings and be done with it.

by Anonymousreply 113August 11, 2020 12:51 AM

Oh, r108, so I offended your delicate sensibilities? Too fucking bad.

In case you haven't noticed, existence and death are a cosmic hoax; an existential, sick joke.

How else to explain that those 30 people are dead and Trump, a gelatinous, ignorant, stupid, dangerous, bigoted, asshole is alive and sits in the Oval Office as the US President?

Every day I tune into his press conferences hoping for, and not wanting to miss if it happens, Trump, on live TV, topple over dead from a massive myocardial infarction(that means heart attack) or massive stroke.

So yes, I find the absurdity "hysterical" and don't give a rat's ass how you feel about that, you pearl-clutching Trump ass-kissing fool.

by Anonymousreply 114August 11, 2020 12:53 AM

Yep, she’s been drinking.

by Anonymousreply 115August 11, 2020 12:57 AM

Again, sit your ass down, Della. Nobody cares what you think about who is posting what or who you think is trash.

by Anonymousreply 116August 11, 2020 12:57 AM

R113

I don’t think it’s her because her name stopped coming up a lot.

by Anonymousreply 117August 11, 2020 12:59 AM

Let alone the cosmic existential stuff. I think she cleaned her oven with the windows closed.

by Anonymousreply 118August 11, 2020 12:59 AM

Ooooh.

Ok, r116.

I'll sit down.

Male OR female...

by Anonymousreply 122August 11, 2020 1:08 AM

He has already committed to choosing a female R122. Would not look good if he backed out of that commitment.

by Anonymousreply 123August 11, 2020 1:28 AM

Well I just read from a trusted source...he chose Buttigieg.

We know how they’ll react to Whitmer.

How many white women vote Democratic in a Presidential year? How many black women vote Democratic in a Presidential year? If it's white women then Whitmer, if it's black women then it should be Bass, if it's a tie then it should be Harris

by Anonymousreply 128August 11, 2020 2:01 AM

R126

How many times does that need to be posted? Geez.

by Anonymousreply 129August 11, 2020 2:01 AM

Perry Bacon Jr. was playing victim today on the 538 podcast.

by Anonymousreply 130August 11, 2020 2:04 AM

R34 Exactly, I never heard any stories of her throwing staplers at people.

by Anonymousreply 131August 11, 2020 2:06 AM

There's something that feels part temper tantrum about this power play and part clear eyed or cynical opportunism. It's ugly. I support a black nominee for a lot of reasons and I support blacks in cabinet and as Supreme Court pick. But something about this power play strikes me as operators at work and I that part of the political system does as much harm as good, on a good day.

I hope it's a black woman. Any of them are up to the job.

But the threat of losing the election if he doesn't choose one has the effect of tainting the very thing they want. That's a shame for the nominee.

by Anonymousreply 132August 11, 2020 2:12 AM

The article at R126 was kind of angering. Along the lines R132 is taking about.

by Anonymousreply 133August 11, 2020 2:16 AM

r51 And DeWine has COVID and Whitmer does not.

by Anonymousreply 134August 11, 2020 2:25 AM

If Charlamagne the God can influence Biden then I won't bother voting for him or anyone. I am done with the political process it is too corrupted by the extremes.

by Anonymousreply 135August 11, 2020 2:28 AM

Charlamagne the God needs to understand the long game.

by Anonymousreply 136August 11, 2020 2:33 AM

That bottom, eyelash queen Charlamagne can go to hell with all his bitch harpy attitude. It's gonna be Gretchen Whitmer. He can eat dirt and die, that trash.

Anyone who says they’re not voting in this election for whatever reason deserves eternal scorn.

by Anonymousreply 138August 11, 2020 2:47 AM

It was said on one of the Sunday public affairs shows this week (I don't recall who said it) that Biden did a disservice to the eventual nominee by announcing he wanted a woman. They said the person will be tainted with a tag of tokenism as a result.

by Anonymousreply 139August 11, 2020 2:54 AM

I think the woman choice was aspirational. It's fine to make the elevation of a woman a priority. Getting tangled up in the black woman thing has created a complication. They are all talented women, if is some are superior choices to others, and all could do the job to one degree or another. I argue that stupid letter did more harm than good. It creates a platform for doubt and racism: Biden caved to win. It was a stupid move. I'm surprised they don't have t-shirts ready to sell.

by Anonymousreply 140August 11, 2020 2:57 AM

Most people don't follow politics so closely. Children, college ppl, husbands and wives. But when you tell them how this election will impact their pocket book then you get their attention. Trump has fucked us all up. That's the national narrative. Whomever the VP nominee is we should just roll with it.

by Anonymousreply 141August 11, 2020 2:59 AM

"Biden did a disservice to the eventual nominee by announcing he wanted a woman"

UNLESS, she is so dynamic she surpasses the sex thang.

by Anonymousreply 142August 11, 2020 3:09 AM

What are they gonna do? Vote for Trump? Watch that case count spiral to 20 million! That whole term will be spent trying to get anti maskers to change for several more years. That and the continued train wreck that is this administration!

by Anonymousreply 143August 11, 2020 3:14 AM

White women in America are like 35% of the country. Sometimes I think their were a lot of white women that wanted a white woman president. Hillary was polarizing. horrendous for some, fabulous for others. But there's still gas in the tank to fire them up. Gov. Whitmer may a redeeming vote.

Van Jones eats dinner with the Kushners at their house in D.C! He's a fucking double agent. The fact is the Republicans are putting on this show to push Joe in public. That way if he does choose a Black woman, it looks like he caved in to pressure. Not a good look. If he doesn't they will agitate to roil up the base of the Democratic Party and try to divide with negativity. Van Jones is an asshole. Like he is in a position to threaten and coerce and publicly insist? WTF does he thin he is? YOu know Obama fired him? He had some project he was working on with Environmentalists and it dealt with Environmental racism and he was shady and duplicitous, and Biden knew it. Because some of the stuff he was doing was part of Biden's portfolio. So fuck a Van Jones. He has an agenda and it is not to help get Biden elected.

by Anonymousreply 149August 11, 2020 3:43 AM

Around the world how many stories are written of Black women Presidents? None. Cleopatra was Greek. Bitch lightened her skin asap, like Beyonce

by Anonymousreply 150August 11, 2020 3:48 AM

Yeah, I'm over Van Jones.

by Anonymousreply 151August 11, 2020 3:49 AM

You know, even if Joe is just in this for one term, it doesn't mean that his VP is a lock for the nomination in 2024. Vote for the here and now, to get rid of Trump and get our country back. Worry about 2024 later.

by Anonymousreply 152August 11, 2020 3:52 AM

Granholm could go in the cabinet.

by Anonymousreply 153August 11, 2020 3:55 AM

I think that's a good point, R152. While this Veep could be called to step in to the role (which would be a game changer... though it didn't work for Selena Meyer ;) ... I don't think this Veep has a lock on 24 either... though a definite advantage. The 24 primaries could be a nightmare.

Of course we don't know how Van Jones will instruct us so I may be taking a position too soon.

by Anonymousreply 154August 11, 2020 3:59 AM

He really backed himself into a corner with "woman only" and the suggestion (accurate or note) of "black woman only." Plus, he's waited so damn long. In the social media age, a big segment of voters will be turned off.

by Anonymousreply 155August 11, 2020 4:00 AM

“I tried to be nice and inclusive, but you bitches just couldn’t behave. Vice President Gavin Newsom it is.“

by Anonymousreply 156August 11, 2020 4:48 AM

That's the thing R155.

He said woman vp but didn't specify race.

He did specify race when he said he'd appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court.

The black woman VP thing came from Twitter, the media and that idiot Amy Klobuchar feeding off of both.

by Anonymousreply 157August 11, 2020 5:15 AM

None of those evil broads are electable. They all have histories of screwing over their own Democratic voters.

The Democrat ticket is in danger. They haven't announced anyone yet because everybody is weak as fuck! HA!!

Biden/Streisand 2020

by Anonymousreply 159August 11, 2020 5:40 AM

Gov. Whitmer can attract Midwesterners where this contest will be decided. She's not polarizing like Hillary. She speaks well and in even tones. She's not a politically tone-deaf bleeding coastal liberal who thinks abortion rights and gun control will win us the WH.

by Anonymousreply 160August 11, 2020 10:46 AM

I can’t believe Susan Rice is even still in consideration. I love her and she’s incredibly smart but do you want three months of Benghazi and Hillary? I mean, how can they not know the baggage she brings and how she’s energize the deplorables.

[quote] -- NATASHA KORECKI, CHRIS CADELAGO and MARC CAPUTO emailed us this: “KAMALA HARRIS world is feeling good: There’s a lot of guessing games out there, but the buzz has intensified around Harris. … Several top Harris donors and close allies have been sending strong signals to reporters -- and some creative emojis -- that they believe she’ll be Biden’s pick. R166 Budgets will NEVER be balanced ever again. Not with the way the world is now. Time for your ilk to drop that complete fantasy. its a tired old pardigm

by Anonymousreply 169August 11, 2020 1:46 PM

This isn't even about all black women being considered. The Kamala camp are the ones pushing this narrative the hardest because they want Kamala in. When Bass was being considered a couple of weeks back, Kamala stans went after her on Twitter. This isn't about choosing a black woman, this is about choosing Kamala Harris.

Furthermore, this is being pushed by celebrities. You go on urban blogs and no one for the most part gives a shit. They'll vote for Biden regardless for whoever the nominee is. They have bigger issues to worry about. In fact, many are starting to feel insulted at what they feel like is just giving someone a position because of their skin color.

by Anonymousreply 170August 11, 2020 1:57 PM

I will say this, Team Kamala took out Bass and Demings with a quickness. But she's been oddly hands off with Rice.

by Anonymousreply 171August 11, 2020 2:02 PM

I hope Harris and her team implode. I hope everything about her gets exposed. Her past, etc. She's Cluster B with a fan club.

by Anonymousreply 172August 11, 2020 2:04 PM

He shouldn't have said it'll be a woman. That way the media would be demanding a woman. By saying it's a woman, he laid down a baseline where the next step would be race.

Huge fuck-up.

by Anonymousreply 173August 11, 2020 2:11 PM

[quote]”He better pick a black woman. If he picks Gretchen, he’ll lose Michigan,” said Virgie Rollins, chair of the Democratic National Committee Black Caucus, who hosted Biden at her home before his Michigan primary win this spring.

That’s like perhaps the dumbest thing I’ve read so far. Biden will lose Michigan if he puts the current 60s-plus approval-rated Governor of Michigan on the ticket? Okay, sure Jan.

by Anonymousreply 174August 11, 2020 2:29 PM

[quote]”At the end of the day, if Joe Biden can’t get the white Midwestern vote, then we’re all up the creek,” she said. “The whole point of Black folks voting for him is he’s supposed to deliver the white people. If he can’t deliver the white Midwestern vote, like what the heck did we vote for you for?”

The whole point of Biden being the candidate is that he was supposed to deliver the Black vote. Most whites people didn’t want him. It sounds like Blacks are suddenly all not-too-impressed with Biden, even though they’re the ones who made him the nominee.

by Anonymousreply 175August 11, 2020 2:34 PM

[quote]I don't think this Veep has a lock on 24 either... though a definite advantage. The 24 primaries could be a nightmare.

by Anonymousreply 178August 11, 2020 3:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 179August 11, 2020 3:18 PM

Amy is just bitter that she wasn't going to be the choice and wanted to take Elizabeth Warren out of the running. Elizabeth Warren is the logical choice, but Biden is too weak now to choose her.

by Anonymousreply 180August 11, 2020 3:20 PM

Isn't this true of every pick?

by Anonymousreply 181August 11, 2020 4:24 PM

Elizabeth seems to be doing a lot for him. I doubt she's doing that unless she's been promised a cabinet position at the least.
