Hilary Swank
So I watched Millon Dollar Baby for the first time since its original release, and I have to say, the film hasn't aged well, especially Swank's performance. It was rather one-note. Shockingly, she won her second Oscar for this performance.
She's now in the same class as Bette Davis, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Judy Foster, and Elizabeth Taylor as a two-time Best Actress winner.

Her Boys Don't Cry Oscar is perfectly legitimate. This Million Dollar Baby Oscar was embarrassing (it also excruciatingly won Best Picture).
Margo Martindale, as the bitch mother, gives the best performance in the film (and one of the few honest ones--everyone else is trying to win an Oscar).

I have no idea why Morgan Freeman won the Oscar. He was basically playing Morgan Freeman and he’s played Morgan Freeman over and over again.

Imelda Staunton was robbed.

I can’t believe Renée Zellweger is a two time academy winner as well.

Oscars aren't for talent. They're for marketing. The industry is patting itself on the back for media attention.
Bankers own Hollywood and the media.

Judy Foster??!! I was confused for a moment. You obviously mean JODIE Foster. Spellcheck!!!

Hillary won for gaining weight and Morgan won for a role he’s played a million times before. Embarrassing.

R6: I know, I know. I caught that myself right after posting it and felt too embarrassed to mention it.
Oh, dear, indeed!

R5 is correct. Just consider that Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock, Gwyneth Paltrow, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Helen Hunt, and Brie Larson are Oscar winners while Liv Ullmann, Isabelle Huppert, Sigourney Weaver, Glenn Close, and Gena Rowlands are not.
Oscar wins are determined by things like industry popularity, bankability, media narratives, and campaigning. If the best performance happens to win, it’s by coincidence.

So I don’t know, OP. So what do you think?

That movie sucked then. It could only be worse now.

Million Dollar Baby won because the Academy has always been up Clint Eastwood's ass.

You forgot Luise Rainer. Maybe deliberately?

Is Jodie Foster really all that deserving? Or Elizabeth Taylor, much as I liked her.

Everyone forgets Luise, in fact at the awards they put her in the corner.

Daily Shoe joke at the time:
She won her second Oscar because nobody gets beaten to death better than Hilary Swank.

OP, the way you posed the question makes it impossible to know how to vote.

It is weird that her career just disappeared after this Oscar win.

Didn’t she play Amelia Earhart afterward?

Since she was notorious for forgetting to thank her husband at the time, Chad Lowe, when she won her first Oscar, she needed to win a second one so she could thank him (which she did). But I don't understand why actors are required to thank their spouses when they win acting awards.

I remember her on Beverly Hills 90210. She played (I think?) an unwed mother David Silver falls in love with. On one of the last seasons. She was very good - but I never saw her movies.

Boys Don't Cry was an amazing performance, she deserved her Oscar, but Annette Bening, Witherspoon (for Election), Sarah Polley (for Go/Guinevere ) and Julianne Moore would have been worthy winners too.
She was great in The Gift, ridiculously miscast in The Affair Of The Necklace, solid in The Core and had a very worthy role in Red Dust, which no one saw.
Then came Million Dollar Baby, which was solid, but nowhere near as rounded a film as Finding Neverland, Sideways or The Aviator, and Swank was good but not better than Staunton, Winslet in both Neverland and Eternal Sunshine, or Bening, who was amazing in Being Julia. The scene where she's on stage with Lucy Punch is amazing. Swank was nominated in the TV category at the SAG in the same year as MDB, for Iron Jawed Angels, losing to Glenn Close for The Lion In Winter.
After that, the Black Dahlia was wilfully forgettable, save for the Fiona Shaw scene, PS I Love You was so bad even Kathy Bates and Lisa Kudrow couldn't help, and Amelia was just underwhelming.
She was very good in The Homesman, with Tommy Lee Jones and The Gummers, and in another year might have got a Golden Globe nomination but it wasn't to be.
She seems to relish the square peg in round hole up against it with a chip on her shoulder roles, but there aren't that many of those that come along.

All you needed was an orderly to molest Hilary Swank's paralyzed character in M$B and you got a Lifetime movie!
Does it take that much talent to play White trash?

An unpopular view: I am no fan of Clint Eastwood or his films (usually), but Million Dollar Baby is a beautiful written, filmed, and acted movie. H. Swank broke my heart with her performance (as she did in Boys Don't Cry). I'm tending to agree with the take on Morgan Freeman, but maybe he deserves an award just for always being so very good at being Morgan Freeman.

I cannot believe she transcended her meager beginnings as a 90210 actress, which should have been all her meager talents earned her.

Swank was nominated in 2011 for a Screen Actors Guild award for Conviction, alongside Natalie Portman for Black Swan, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence and Annette Bening.
When the Oscar nominations were announced, Michelle Williams got the nomination ahead of Swank.
Imagine Bening's face if Swank had been nominated.

From what I remember the irony is she was fired from 90210 and told she’d never would work in Hollywood again.
