Count me as someone who was bothered by that Liza jab, too. Ellen basically said Liza looked like an ugly man in a dress, at the Oscars in front of a worldwide audience. In a special year where Judy / The Wizard of Oz was being honored. Then *never* apologized for it. Makes me wonder what imaginary crime must Liza have committed against Portia on the set of AD.

It was pure mean, cowardly, and such a punch down. I adore Liza, but, her stardom is past. She was there because, iirc, they were going to honor "The Wizard of Oz".

My point is that DeGeneres, in true bully fashion, in a room full of "A" Listers who provided much more fodder for ridicule than Liza, she didn't dare pick on any of them.

Precisely. I don't know how much of these allegations are true but what Ellen did to Liza was a low, nasty, degrading stunt.

I didn't find the joke at the Oscars to be intended as "ridicule" at all, and I'm one of the people who has been saying Ellen is mean for years. Straight people who think drag queens are just "ugly men in dresses" would see it as an insult, I guess.

I DO think Ellen was unwise to make the joke, if only because Ellen's wife famously worked with Liza, and of course because she was there for a special tribute. But Chris Rock and Seth Macfarlane and others have made really sketchy jokes at the Oscars and you don't hear people incessantly carping about that anymore.

Can someone give info on the Liza incident?

She’s a nasty boss who mistreated low paid staff members. She would not even let them look in her direction. That is sick behavior and it’s insane that people would be defending it.
