Come on, admit it. How many on DL are fat and/or morbidly obese? I suspect many.

6'2, 240. Technically I think I qualify as obese although my height and broad shoulders help disperse the extra weight; I'm told that I "carry it well." Often when I refer to myself as fat, which I am, people respond: You're not fat! You just have a beer gut. It's true that most of the extra weight is in my gut. I've lost about 10 pounds since COVID hit (it helps to not eat takeout every day for lunch) and am down from a peak of about 300 pounds that I hit about 15 years ago.

r19 A person's waist-to-height ratio (WtHR), also called waist-to-stature ratio (WSR), is defined as their waist circumference divided by their height, both measured in the same units. The WtHR is a measure of the distribution of body fat. Higher values of WtHR indicate higher risk of obesity-related cardiovascular diseases; it is correlated with abdominal obesity.
Healthy WtHR is 0.43 to 0.52 for men, 0.53 to 0.57 is the overweight range, 0.58 to 0.62 is obese, 0.63 and over is Trump-sized (I'm guessing, weird how US doctors on social media opine about subjects of which they do not specialize but won't hazard a WtHR on the Orange one)

I am cery overweight, to the extent that covid terrifies me.
I’ve been overweight for at least 20 years, a little more each year. Food is my drug of choice, my way of punishing myself and my way of soothing myself. I hate my body, and my clothes. I have wonderful friends but socialising is a real trial. I’m still mobile, but I am aware that this has become borderline during lockdown. I’m a little breathless when I walk, which is a new and worrying development.
I’m trying to change again, to develop sustainable healthy habits, but it is hard to be optimistic.
I’m not sure why I’m saying all this here, but it’s what’s going on in my Head, so here it is.

57 yr, 5’11”, and most of my life I’ve weighed between125 to 140 and I thought it would be that way the rest of my life. Because my dad was like that himself. But i learned we are two completely different beings.
my dad didn’t drink booze but was a huge smoker - up to four packs today which kept him from eating food and thus kept him very slim, (but it didn’t stop him from dying of lung cancer.) Flip side, I don’t smoke but I do/did drink (a lot) and that’s where the big difference happened. After hitting 50 I ballooned to 240 pounds. Stayed 225 to 240 for years. 2020 New Years resolution was get in shape. I started working out at the gym and running. I went down to about 220 and then with the quarantine in place and getting around has not been that easy with markets and such closed, I’ve stop drinking booze completely. And happily, I have lost another 20 pounds just by that factor. So for the first time in a long time I’m under 200 pounds.
And once the quarantine is lifted, I plan to continue to not drink booze and return to the gym. Wish me continued luck! My goal is 180.

I cut out or limited sugars and starchy carbs and was able to get down to 208 at my lowest. Then I got weak and gradually started letting myself have sugar and starches again. And now here I am almost back to where I was. I don't really overeat. I just eat things that I know will put on the pounds. So I'm now back to doing what I was doing before and I'm making a little progress. But it's much harder than it was the first time.

5’10”, 130. Small boned, so this size works for me—I once got up to 190 pounds (mostly fat), and it was clearly too much for my frame. Lost the weight over a year by going to the gym 4 times a week and slowly reducing my intake.
An acquaintance of mine ballooned from 160 to 280 pounds (at 6’1”) over four years for an encourager boyfriend. He’s since lost the weight as well.

I try to do at least an hours exercise a day and dont drink alcohol

R107 - it's definitely a mental thing. I was depressed after my partner died and gained 40 lbs and for 2 years I let myself go. I finally found a gym I loved (hate their recent politics, but will probably go back when I get back to LA as it really worked for me). The important thing is to find a happy place - a gym, a park, somewhere to go and work out and some clothes and really start looking into cool kitchen gadgets and foods and it soon becomes fun.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | August 21, 2020 1:07 AM |
R114 also helps to find an exercise you actually enjoy, so you will keep doing it. For me it was cycling and swimming, cant swim now cos COVID, so I go for a bike ride every day. If you use a bike to go places instead of driving you can save a shitload on gas (or public transport) over time and get more healthier

I loved cycling at the gym and just put on my favorite music and went with it and, eventually, I made friends there and we started swapping recipes and stories. The gym had a website and app and it just got me out of my funk. A god hiking group and just taking time for you and browse hiking goods and treat yourself to a smoothie or whatever you like and try to enjoy the moments of your life. It was how I re-learned to live after losing the love of my life.

I like to fuck fat guys. Put them on their back, lift their legs up, and ram my cock into their hole. And look at them in the eyes as I do so.
So please stay fat.

So sorry for your loss R 121. You inspired me to get my ass off the couch. Thank you. A hiking group sounds good. I just love being out in nature and like you said there’s definitely something therapeutic about cycling or walking and taking in the light, the colours, trees, sky, plants and scenery.

I’m 30 years old, 175cm tall and currently weigh 81kg. Down from my heaviest at 88kg. Ideally I’d like to get back to my ideal weight of 75kg that I was when I was 23. I’ve plateaued I think as I can’t seem to lose any more weight after losing the 7kg.

This thread did not deliver the yardage that OP’s pic had promised. It was the typical humblebragathon.

R127 - once you plateau, it means the metabolism has essentially gotten used to your routine. What you need to do is add some elements to your routine. If you are using the eliptical, try for the same amount of time but on several cardio machines. Or a new exercise. It creates a "shock" to the metabolism and it starts burning again to keep up.

I'm 6'1". When I first started posting here about 5 years ago I weighed approx 165-170lbs.
Fast forward 5 years and I'm a wee bit chunkier at 185 lbs. I've lost about 10 lbs in 6 months, and the other chunkage will be gone within a year.

R130 - yeah time to start weights or push ups or something added to that. I did the same thing and plateau happened at 20 lbs. I started doing one meal a day of a smoothie and added weight training and BOOM...the rest came off.

R131 are you the real AIKC back from the dead?
by Anonymous | reply 133 | August 22, 2020 8:15 PM |
If it’s real AIKC, they have increased his meds or lobotomized him.
Probably both.

I went to a portion control food business; I'm 5'6 1/4" and hovering around 200.
They told me my 'ideal weight was between 126 lbs. and 154 lbs.
I said do you really think I need to lose 80 lbs?
Cliche has it sounds, I don't have a problem losing weight. I have a problem keeping it off.
