I don't know why people leave their Venmo activity public. Venmo wants to be a more 'social' kind of peer to peer pay system, but...why?

not to be a thread bumper but my gardener wants me to pay him via Venmo. I'd rather deposit direct into his bank account since we share same bank (so its immediate) . The reviews on Venmo weren't so flattering and the sing up was confusing.
