I was a manager of a run down hotel in downtown Jax Fl and there was a woman (black) that I used to call "No No Nanette" . Nanette was her actual name. She was bi-polar ,and when she was on her meds she was the sweetest ,nicest woman you'd ever want to know. But when she was off them ,she would do stuff like stand in front of the hotel screaming and cursing anyone that walked by ,or strip completely naked and stand in the street begging men to fuck her. I always knew when she was getting ready to flip ,and I would run out and try to stop her by yelling "No ! No Nanette!" sometimes it worked,sometimes not. The cops would come,haul her off to the psych ward,then she'd show back up a few days later just as sweet as could be. I've come across more than a few mentally ill people in my lifetime, and they were almost without fail, white and middle class. Maybe working-class people are just too damn busy trying to keep their world together to be able to have a breakdown? Mental problems often develop when people's expectations and desires are frustrated, so I guess the more entitled you feel you are, the greater the upset at not getting everything you want.
