Be honest.
So Did You Know How To Pronounce Storm Isaias Before Hearing Newscasters Say It?

I did not. Still don’t. I feel great shame.

Eee-sigh-ay-eee-us according to my dentist’s assistant who is Colombian.

Newscasters shouldn't be the standard. OP. Remember how many ways they've pronounced "Halley's Comet"?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 4, 2020 3:13 PM |
I usually love Spanish-language names, but not this one.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 4, 2020 3:14 PM |
So, uh, no.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 4, 2020 3:14 PM |
Eazy E

I hope it goes away quickly and does no lasting damage. I do not want to have to say (or type) "Isaias" as often as we did "Katrina."

Spanish normally pronounces all letters (if I remember my high school language course correctly) so I would pronounce it as "ee-sah-EE-us" (said quickly). I don't know if it's right or not. R5 doesn't seem correct to me but the Colombian should know I guess.

Was the naming of this hurricane influenced by Wokeness?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 4, 2020 3:30 PM |
Why wasn't it named Maria Concepcion?
That's easier.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 4, 2020 3:34 PM |
It should’ve been named Erna in appreciatia of her many actia of kindness and goodwill!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 4, 2020 3:43 PM |
Nobody was the slightest bit dazed by the hurricane. I don’t even think anyone canceled beach plans.
At this point, I think everyone has just accepted that they might not make it through 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 4, 2020 3:52 PM |
I say it “Ee-SIGH-us”, fluidly. But some are making it very choppy and pronouncing every vowel. Apparently everyone’s got their own special spin on it.

[quote]everyone’s got their own special spin on it
There's a correct and an incorrect way to pronounce it. Yours is wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 4, 2020 4:01 PM |
Spanish speaker, aqui. Entonces, sí.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 4, 2020 4:05 PM |
It’s pronounced the way it’s spelled, so it’s pretty easy.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 4, 2020 4:10 PM |
Claro que si, guey.

The OP is worse than Hitler and Mooseahleanknee together.

TAHM-pah BEH!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 4, 2020 5:18 PM |
R17, maybe I’ll pass your pronouncement along to the Isaias I know IRL and let him know he’s saying his own name incorrectly.
