I remember watching this around the same time I watched The Piano Teacher. I thought it was good but nothing amazing. Maybe because I saw The Piano Teacher before, which destroyed me.

I think the songs are very clever in the way they capture different styles. I had thought they used existing period songs but they are in fact originals. And I like how Ozon transitions to the musical numbers as if it's perfectly normal for the women to start singing with mostly invisible accompaniment.

Very entertaining though middle of the road Ozon. He has made a number of much better films then 8 Women and a number of real dogs which make 8 Women film like a cinematic masterpiece which it is not.

R3 - how did The Piano Teacher destroy you? Isabelle is one of my fave actresses but I like her better in some other things like The School of Flesh and her Claude Chabrol films.
