We should all just stay home.
All nice places get spoiled as they get popular and get run over by tourists. But the tourists are us!

No. Everyone else needs to stay home.

it's yet another of life's paradoxes.
most things are ruined by their very "success".

How about this...When international travel becomes possible again, anyone who has ever crossed international borders and can be proven to have shoped at a chain store or eat at a chain restaurant that's in available their home town, be banned from further travel?
Travel should be reserved for those who actually enjoy it.

10 years ago a friend moved from London to Barcelona bc rent and living costs were getting out of control in London. He works from home anyway. Said at the time, Barcelona was a beautiful, relaxed city with an amazing climate and the beach 5 min from his apartment. Rent and living expenses were really low compared to the UK. Fast forward 10 years, the city is overrun by tourists every year, rent is out of control and lots of Spanish families have lost their apartments or can no longer afford to live in their own city. Landlords kick people out of their homes and turn them into Airbnbs for tourists. I hope Airbnb and all these other fucking shared economy grifters won't survive the pandemic.

If the pandemic brings an end to mass tourism, that will be a good thing. Most tourists have no appreciation for what they’re seeing and they ruin it for those who do. They should stay home.

Because we allowed millions of people in developing countries to become middle class by shipping jobs there. While it is a theoretical good that there are hundreds of millions more people not living in poverty, they now consume in a way only we did for decades and it has “ruined” everything and wreaked environmental devastation.
Too late. The only thing banning tourists will do is drive up prices for remaining hotels. Demand > supply = more expansive, crowded and use of everything.

Human overpopulation contributes to the problem.

So does Instagram.
Maybe anyone with an Instagram account should have their passport confiscated.

Bhutan mandates each tourist spends 250$ a day, our something like that. That's one option.
