I guess Mel’s Diner is closed on Sundays.

by Anonymousreply 3July 31, 2020 3:10 PM

Of course she's being interviewed by the dashing, horsehung Mo Rocca.

After interviewing both Shitbra and Cunt Lavin, Mo deserves hazard pay. He's doing the lord's work, for sure.

by Anonymousreply 4July 31, 2020 3:11 PM

Is she going to admit that Tommy had AIDS and Covid-19?

by Anonymousreply 5July 31, 2020 3:12 PM

She's promoting her CD box set "New Girl in Town" featuring all 147 variations of the hit theme song.

by Anonymousreply 6July 31, 2020 3:13 PM

Early to rise.

by Anonymousreply 25August 2, 2020 1:30 PM

Will she just crawl under the porch and die already?

by Anonymousreply 26August 2, 2020 1:31 PM

Christ, she’s making out that she’s the real life Norma Rae showing up at events in her waitress costume to support woman’s equal rights. I bet that uniform was stinky as hell, and they smelled her 10 minutes before she arrived.

by Anonymousreply 27August 2, 2020 1:34 PM

Did CBS Sunday Morning ever do a segment on DL Fave Bonnie Franklin?

by Anonymousreply 28August 2, 2020 1:34 PM

I really did think she was dead

by Anonymousreply 29August 2, 2020 1:43 PM

R29, just her career.

by Anonymousreply 30August 2, 2020 1:46 PM

R30 kiss my grits bitch. I got you off MY show while yours failed and won a Tony so mission accomplished.

by Anonymousreply 31August 2, 2020 1:55 PM

She gives lousy head.

by Anonymousreply 32August 2, 2020 1:58 PM

Ron Leibman was lucky to get out of that marriage.

by Anonymousreply 33August 2, 2020 2:00 PM

She was on a Tv Show where she worked as a waitress, right? Now, what else was there?

by Anonymousreply 34August 2, 2020 2:25 PM

Will she singing out the end of show minute of nature?

by Anonymousreply 35August 2, 2020 2:27 PM

She gave up a huge Broadway career for that series, it took a generation for New York to recover.

by Anonymousreply 36August 2, 2020 2:28 PM

Did she talk about her late big-dicked onscreen son?

by Anonymousreply 37August 2, 2020 2:30 PM

In all of entertainment history, has anyone else ever gone so far with so little talent?

by Anonymousreply 38August 2, 2020 2:31 PM

One thing Linda Lavin does not lack is talent.

by Anonymousreply 39August 2, 2020 2:32 PM

I love these big makeover shows!

by Anonymousreply 40August 2, 2020 2:33 PM

LOL at Mo Rocca asking her if she preferred "sweeeeeet!" or "Boppity Bop."

by Anonymousreply 41August 2, 2020 2:34 PM

There’s no way Mo Rocca isn’t a Datalounger.

by Anonymousreply 42August 2, 2020 2:35 PM

[quote]One thing Linda Lavin does not lack is talent.

Or a healthy dose of unmitigated vileness.

by Anonymousreply 43August 2, 2020 3:03 PM

[quote] Linda Lavin

Sorry, I've got troubles of my own.

by Anonymousreply 44August 2, 2020 3:05 PM

She used to scare me by firing a shotgun off-stage everytime I opened the package of drinking straws!

by Anonymousreply 45August 2, 2020 3:10 PM

Why didn't Beth Howland ever sing on Alice? She came from the musical theater like Lavin did, yet they never gave her any kind of musical number.

Diane Ladd got to sing, Phillip McKeon even got to sing. But the most Beth did was tap dance.

by Anonymousreply 46August 2, 2020 3:20 PM

r46, would Linda stand for that? I don't think so...imagine the meltdown.

by Anonymousreply 47August 2, 2020 3:23 PM

Beth had to be happy she got a few lines now and then, she barely got to speak so she wasn’t ever going to get to sing. R46

by Anonymousreply 48August 2, 2020 3:47 PM

She is multi-talented. I'm surprised there was never a Linda Lavin Special aired on CBS in the late 70s.

by Anonymousreply 49August 2, 2020 3:58 PM

Her husband sure is hot!

by Anonymousreply 50August 2, 2020 4:05 PM

The CIA should play her "signing" at ear-splitting levels on a continuous loop to soften up torture suspects for interrogation.

by Anonymousreply 51August 2, 2020 4:29 PM

R50, He's been quarantining in Costa Rica since March, lol.

by Anonymousreply 52August 2, 2020 4:33 PM

Lavin was always so shrill and unpleasant, I have no idea how she had a career.

by Anonymousreply 53August 2, 2020 5:37 PM

R53, how indeed?

by Anonymousreply 54August 2, 2020 5:38 PM

"Linda, when you and Martha Raye sang Rod Stewart's 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy' with miniskirts hiked up to your cooches, how did you feel that all of America was simultaneously vomiting?"

by Anonymousreply 55August 2, 2020 5:47 PM

Beth Howland trashed her first husband, just because he refused to have anything to do with her or her child and neglected to pay child support. What a cunt!!!

by Anonymousreply 56August 2, 2020 6:02 PM

[quote]She is multi-talented. I'm surprised there was never a Linda Lavin Special aired on CBS in the late 70s.

She was on Hal Linden's special, sharing the stage with another DL legend.

Mo Rocca has Asperger's.

by Anonymousreply 58August 2, 2020 6:37 PM

Mo's facial expressions and slack mouth seems to indicate he is less than impressed with Ms. Lavin and any claim she makes to "legend" status.

by Anonymousreply 59August 2, 2020 6:39 PM

In all seriousness I just can’t imagine her being remembered much beyond her death.

Mo Rocca's sizemeat verificatia, please.

Not that I find him attractive in the least, I'm just wondering how he got a job in broadcasting.

by Anonymousreply 71August 2, 2020 8:32 PM

I've shared this before but Mo likes men on the more bearish end of the spectrum (or did, about 10 years ago) and I was at a party with a friend who'd briefly dated him.

That topic came up and another guy there said something to the effect of "Man, he's longer and thicker limp than most guys I know are when they're hard!" A few knowing nods were shared.

by Anonymousreply 72August 2, 2020 9:02 PM

Does anyone really think the current husband has been faithful while quarantining in Costa Rica since March with his children from a previous marriage?

by Anonymousreply 78August 3, 2020 12:12 AM

R73 thanks. I have to say the bitch looks good for 82 and her husband is pretty hot.

by Anonymousreply 79August 3, 2020 12:29 AM

Polly Holliday was fabulous in that revival of Cat.

The best actor on that stage by miles. Despite a ridiculous costume.

by Anonymousreply 80August 3, 2020 12:41 AM

Bum ba da bum bum.....

by Anonymousreply 81August 3, 2020 5:41 AM

‘YOU’RE holDING a BIRB and it's made of woooooooooood”

by Anonymousreply 82August 3, 2020 5:53 AM

I know we always compare her to Bonnie F but in all fairness Linda has worked consistently on Broadway and TV since Alice. Bonnie, ummm...did a tap dancing video.

Anyone ever watch that short lived show where Patty Heaton played her daughter? I wonder how they got along.

Didn’t watch the interview yet but she looks good for 82 that’s for sure!

by Anonymousreply 83August 3, 2020 6:23 AM

Oh gosh, those clips from the interview of her singing in her living room with Billy Stritch were painful. It looked like half the paintings in the room were portraits of her...shocker.

by Anonymousreply 84August 3, 2020 11:47 AM

In 16 years everyone will think she was Andrea Martin’s invented character.

by Anonymousreply 85August 3, 2020 2:18 PM

She's had a better career than Andrea Martin, so that's doubtful.

by Anonymousreply 86August 3, 2020 2:26 PM

Ironic that she compares her "Alice" character to "Norma Rae" since former husband Ron Leibman was in the movie.

by Anonymousreply 87August 3, 2020 2:32 PM

R83 I’m sure they tried to outcunt each other.

R90, I'm watching your 'Tonight Show' clip you posted of Linda, and at the 25 minute mark, it sounds like Beth Howland doing a Chex commercial. I'm pretty sure it's her voice.

by Anonymousreply 91August 4, 2020 12:34 AM

I met her once, briefly. She was nice to me.

by Anonymousreply 92August 4, 2020 12:59 AM

R87 shit how many times was she married?? I’ve counted like 4 on this board already.

by Anonymousreply 93August 4, 2020 1:36 AM

Polly Holliday, Diane Ladd and Celia Weston are all still alive and kicking!

by Anonymousreply 94August 4, 2020 1:40 AM

Does anybody know Celia Weston? I have a question for her.

by Anonymousreply 95August 4, 2020 1:43 AM

R89 lol Polly, Beth and Vic look indifferent to her winning. Sure this was the height of her cunt ways when she forced Polly off the show.

by Anonymousreply 96August 4, 2020 2:20 AM

How did she "force" Polly off the show? She was given a spinoff. If she was a cunt, it would've been to prevent her from coming back on after "Flo" was cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 97August 4, 2020 2:21 AM

[quote]Why didn't Beth Howland ever sing on Alice? She came from the musical theater like Lavin did, yet they never gave her any kind of musical number.

The only hit that comes out of a Linda Law...Lavin show is Linda Lavin, and that's ME, baby, remember?'

by Anonymousreply 98August 4, 2020 2:30 AM

R97 you must be new here. It’s well known that Polly was stealing the spotlight and Linda wanted her off HER show. Polly was offered a chance to return after Diane but she said no. Either the producers and or network made Lavin behave, or Lavin realized they needed Polly to boost the ratings. But there was no way Polly was going to deal with Lavin again.

by Anonymousreply 99August 4, 2020 2:31 AM

Linda made Beth pick up all those straws.

With her teeth.

by Anonymousreply 100August 4, 2020 2:36 AM

Linda should have stopped pressing her lips together so hard causing those deep wrinkles around the corners of her mouth. She would always make that look on Alice when Mel said something stupid or she got upset with Tommy. You can see it right there in the OP photo.

by Anonymousreply 101August 4, 2020 6:22 PM

I remember when Linda and Sandy Duncan co-presented on the 1990 Tony Awards.

Sandy had a problem reading the nominees from the teleprompter and forgot to include a nominee, but corrected herself.

Linda began mocking Sandy behind her back, complete with gestures, making Sandy look stupid.

Given that Sandy is blind in one eye, I found Linda's behavior to be quite cunty.

See for yourself at 24:40 . . .

Did anyone like her in Gypsy? I saw her in the show and thought she wasn't half bad and made some interesting choices. Some landed better than others, but it was a fascinating performance.

by Anonymousreply 103August 4, 2020 6:30 PM

I saw her in Gypsy. I thought she was okay. Nowhere near the train wreck everyone else makes it out to be. I saw Lansbury as well at the Winter Garden. And that performance was not as great as everyone makes it out to be. People were just happy to see Lansbury on stage in a good musical and that made them overrate her.

by Anonymousreply 104August 4, 2020 6:41 PM

Saw her too. The fact that she’s playing a monster and is a monster makes it hard to judge the performance, but overall I left feeling underwhelmed and wishing it had been someone else, even a no name understudy, who wouldn’t have pulled focus from the rest of the cast. As I wrote this I remembered there was someone I went to grade school in the cast as well and went to look her up. She died last year of a brain tumor. She was a lovely little girl and had the most amazing flaming red hair.

Whoever would've thought that Celia Weston would have a whole second act as a constantly working character actress? One of the few lucky actresses who actually worked more as she got older.

by Anonymousreply 106August 4, 2020 7:10 PM

It was no stretch for Linda to play the whiny Jewish mother in a one season sitcom with an apartment number title.

by Anonymousreply 107August 4, 2020 7:21 PM

R106 yeah I think Celia had the best career overall post Alice. She easily could’ve been forgotten as part of the shows worst years. One could argue Lavin and her Tony win, but I think she’s been really hit and miss on Broadway and definitely tv.

by Anonymousreply 109August 4, 2020 7:55 PM

[quote] a whole second act as a constantly working character actress?

So did I, but it's still a pile of nothing.

by Anonymousreply 110August 4, 2020 8:06 PM

Lavin is a star actress, even if she plays someone's mother. Weston is not. I remember Weston in the Freakshow season of "American Horror Story." It was a part Lavin wouldn't even consider.

[quote]Lavin is a star actress,

Linda is a shrill and annoying actress. Celia Weston is always wonderful to see.

by Anonymousreply 118August 5, 2020 12:06 AM

The point was that Celia Weston does not have a star to maintain.

by Anonymousreply 119August 5, 2020 12:09 AM

Polly and Vic were very good friends off camera. They would often attend industry events together. She's also good friends with Dustin Hoffman, and helped him create Tootie.

by Anonymousreply 120August 5, 2020 12:10 AM

Linda was a star of a shitty sitcom 40 years ago, it's not like she's Meryl Streep.

by Anonymousreply 122August 5, 2020 12:31 AM

That Linda In Wonderland special was beyond self indulgence.

Of course, of course it begins with her singing yet another reiteration of the ALICE theme.

She must have been incredibly exhausting around this time.

by Anonymousreply 123August 5, 2020 12:33 AM

Did Lavin recount in an interview that she was abusing substances around the time she took over in GYPSY? I may be conflating her with Liz Ashley and AGNES OF GOD.

I made it thru 'Linda in Wonderland' (had to fast forward a bit on YouTube thru some of the odd numbers). It actually won two Emmys, for the music. Honestly--and certainly not to defend narcissistic Linda--it was way ahead of its time with the behind-the-scenes gaffes and guffaws. An interesting production choice which I assume was used to show she didn't take herself too seriously, though we all know that wasn't the case.

by Anonymousreply 140August 5, 2020 6:58 AM

I started watching WONDERLAND, and soon realized that one Linda wasn't enough for Linda--there had to be TWO of them at the outset.

TWO Lindas for double the displeasure!

by Anonymousreply 149August 9, 2020 11:44 PM

Have Ellen and Linda ever met?

by Anonymousreply 150August 9, 2020 11:45 PM

R150 I’m sure they’ve crossed paths at the very least since they both worked in Broadway a lot. Lavin probably thought it was a plum role to pick up multiple Emmys since Burstyn won the Oscar, but Linda only picked up one lousy Emmy nomination during the shows run. And she lost to Ruth Gordon for a guest appearance on Taxi.

Is this where we find out Alice stripped at the Phoenix Spearmint Rhino on weekends to get that extra coin to send Tommy to college?

by Anonymousreply 161August 10, 2020 5:22 AM

[quote]She should do another version of the Alice theme with Cardi B

Linda/Alice definitely has a Wet-Ass Pussy...

God damn this thread!! I've been singing the theme song to Alice in my head for days. I have every variation recorded buried in my subconscious.

by Anonymousreply 164August 10, 2020 2:26 PM

As long as you do the paraplegic choochoo on “TOWN!!!” r164. And cock your head way back.

by Anonymousreply 165August 10, 2020 6:10 PM

Maybe throw back a heel. What the hell

by Anonymousreply 166August 10, 2020 6:11 PM

I've had it stuck on my head, as well.

Funniest thing, saddest part is I never know why.

by Anonymousreply 167August 10, 2020 6:18 PM

She was really funny on Santa Clarita Diet

by Anonymousreply 168August 10, 2020 6:25 PM

Why are Mo's teeth so yellow?

by Anonymousreply 169August 10, 2020 6:27 PM

You're not "Lavining Up" a song unless you add spurious "jazzy" syllables to the melody, especially off-key and out of time to the rhythm.

by Anonymousreply 170August 10, 2020 6:52 PM

The versions are so weird because some sound like she’s going full Broadway broad, while another sounds like she’s doing some sultry Mae West impression.

Ms Lavin must have recorded done hundreds of versions that are locked in some vault somewhere.

[quote]Is this where we find out Alice stripped at the Phoenix Spearmint Rhino on weekends to get that extra coin to send Tommy to college?

No. It's where we find out Tommy was working his way through college by stripping at Dick's Cabaret.

by Anonymousreply 172August 10, 2020 7:13 PM

R171, Maybe Linda will authorize a box set with 100 versions (91 previously unreleased!).

by Anonymousreply 173August 14, 2020 2:38 AM

Now’s her chance to eternally better Bonnie and record an album of jazzy versions, with lots of ending scat, of the One Day at a Time theme song, one for each season it was on.

by Anonymousreply 174August 14, 2020 3:02 AM

How she ever thought scatting the theme song was a great idea is beyond me

by Anonymousreply 175August 14, 2020 3:08 AM

The season 2 theme song and the closing credits with Linda scatting...

by Anonymousreply 176August 14, 2020 3:23 AM

I like the speeded up snazzy intro but the scatting is lame af.

by Anonymousreply 177August 14, 2020 3:31 AM

I finally watched and fuck I can’t believe Mo Rocca really asked which one was her favorite.

You’re right he must be a DLer.

by Anonymousreply 178August 14, 2020 3:42 AM

What did Mo think of Bonnie?

by Anonymousreply 179August 14, 2020 3:46 AM

I wonder if they didn’t invite her to participate in that Sondheim tribute because she would have taken over and tried to control it all. She doesn’t strike me as someone who knows how to play well with others.

by Anonymousreply 180August 14, 2020 4:07 AM

r180 that was apparently the problem on Alice, which is why Polly Holiday and Diane Ladd both left the show.

by Anonymousreply 181August 14, 2020 4:08 AM

Yes - she seems like a control frau that doesn’t know how to concede ground to anyone in a group endeavor. I’ve dealt with these ladies in non profits and they are awful. They run a lot of people off with their obsessive need to tell everyone, tell them how to do things, etc .

by Anonymousreply 182August 14, 2020 4:14 AM

*tell everyone what to do

by Anonymousreply 183August 14, 2020 4:16 AM

What do you want to bet that Linda has outlined every detail for her memorial service.

by Anonymousreply 184August 14, 2020 4:18 AM

She probably has everything pre-booked and programmed. And a video message recording and goodbye song to be played at her funeral.

by Anonymousreply 185August 14, 2020 4:22 AM

You can tell just by the Linda interviews on YouTube her dominant personality type. Ladd has said the set on Alice was pretty unhappy. I don’t know how Vic and Beth dealt with for 9 years. Just shut up and collect the paychecks I guess.

by Anonymousreply 186August 14, 2020 12:11 PM

Did having a domineering TV mom make Philip McKeon gay?

by Anonymousreply 187August 14, 2020 3:02 PM

r187, how about a domineering lez sister?

by Anonymousreply 188August 14, 2020 11:58 PM

Discovered this gem on Youtube. On the set of Alice, Linda and Philip sing a piece of "special material" for the studio audience. The song was written by Philip's guitar teacher. The song is about a mom named Alice, and her son, Tommy. Enjoy!

That’s cute.

by Anonymousreply 190August 15, 2020 2:11 AM

R189, that was absolutely delightful. Thanks for sharing that.

by Anonymousreply 191August 15, 2020 3:47 PM

OMG! The first episode of Alice begins on Antenna in just a few minutes. Join me, Datalounge!

by Anonymousreply 192August 18, 2020 11:52 PM

Stow it, r192!

by Anonymousreply 193August 19, 2020 12:00 AM

The pilot episode has a completely different Tommy and the credits feel completely different, almost like an independent film.

by Anonymousreply 194August 19, 2020 12:02 AM

Vera and the straws!

by Anonymousreply 195August 19, 2020 12:05 AM

Vera made a fortune selling those straws in a jar by the cash register

They were labeled "This Is What My Pussy Smells Like"
