Nunes is the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, and he faced questioning from Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney when the committee met this week. House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff asked if Nunes wanted to respond, to which the Republican simply responded: “No.”

by Anonymousreply 57August 1, 2020 1:13 AM

As someone from a country that has witnessed a civil war, totalitarian leaders, ethno-religious pogroms, state-sanctioned brutality & the slow eradication of human rights under the guise of criminality, I can frankly tell Americans:

You don't know what you're playing with. The biggest mistake I see is people waiting for A Big Sign that'll tell them that things have gone too far. One Big Thing that police or lawmakers or the president/leaders will do that will cross the line.

It'll never come because they won't cross it. They'll move the line. That line you think you stand behind is shifting everyday with little actions, bills, legislations. Police murdering people on camera & not getting charged. White supremacists threatening leadership & getting a free pass.

That line will stop moving one day, & it'll be too late. A frog doesn't know it's in hot water if the temperature is turned up little by little. By the time the frog realizes it's in boiling water, it's done. Dead.

You're that frog. You think these measures and actions being taken are really about "curbing crime, curbing looting, keeping protests peaceful?" You think, "Surely, it can't be about targeting Black people? Surely, it's simply about weeding out criminal entities? Surely, not ALL police are bad?" There is a reason the focus remains on "looters" & "rioters" & "criminals" when it's clear those are a SIGNIFICANT MINORITY of the protesting population. Even a monkey can see that. Ask yourself why punishments are being meted out to EVERYONE, press & medics included. I could tell the story of how nonviolent agitators from Eastern Nigeria were violently squashed by the Nigerian military while other favored groups carry out daily pogroms & aren't labeled terrorists, even when they threaten open violence on the govt.

The playbook is old, guys. I save my energy because I have no space to worry over two countries. But I can say this for free: every day, your sensitivity is being eroded by these willful atrocities. The envelope for what you'll accept is being pushed. One day, all of these things will be your new normal. Remember how, at the beginning of COVID-19, we were all, "Oh no, a pandemic! Quick, protect everyone!" Then a fuckton of people died, and then we were like, "Well, SOME people must die, tho..." 🤷🏾‍♂️

That's you now, but with police brutality, white supremacy & racist leadership. Do the work needed to fix up. Do it NOW. You think you have time, but you don't. Police in 50 states just don't behave like bastards for no reason. Protesters in 50 states aren't suddenly "enemies of the country" for nothing.

Educate yourself & fix it now, or you'll be sorry.

This thread has achieved more than Drumpf has!

How's that wall going? hahahaha.

by Anonymousreply 90August 2, 2020 12:54 AM

The value of threads like these is a concentration of information.

Five separate threads on the same topic and threads which link to NYPost or The Sun or Fox News are not helpful.

Disinformation is going to be the bane of our existence--possibly literally--for the next three months. I was just on Twitter and about 5 topics started trending and getting bumped. Out of nowhere a Bill Clinton pedo hashtag appeared and 100% of the people using it called for his arrest, with many of them listing other Democrats. NOT ONE mentioned 45 or Dershowitz or any of the unknown names from the data dump a few days ago (some of whom are actually verifiably Democrats with a simple Google search).

And then there was an anti-GOP hashtag. And that was followed by outraged postings about some random kid who burned a bible in Portland last night...

Like the saying about publicity, "bad news" isn't even as damaging as it used to be. The White House will continue to tell outright lies as long as it enrages their opposition to the point of ineffectiveness. The objective is to stoke chaos and confusion with the goal of making late October so frantic that nobody knows what to believe and the incumbency has the advantage of being positioned to restore "order".

The better we are at filtering distraction, the better chance we have of fighting.

Democrats Are Spending Millions to Boost a Trump Ally

[quote] ...for the past few weeks, Democrats have come to Kobach’s rescue, spending at least $4 million to help the unapologetic Trump ally win the Republican nomination for an open U.S. Senate seat in Kansas. The primary is August 4, and a Democratic-aligned super PAC formed in recent weeks has poured millions into TV ads that bash Kobach’s opponent, Representative Roger Marshall, the Republican backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other state and national GOP power brokers. The ads attack Marshall from the right, lumping him in with “Mitt Romney Republicans and Never Trumpers” who think Kobach is “too conservative.” The committee, called the Sunflower State PAC, is using an advertising firm that created commercials for Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential campaign and for a super PAC backing Joe Biden this year. It appears to be a simple, if clandestine, case of primary meddling, a tactic that has become popular among both parties in recent years: Democrats see Kobach as the weaker, more polarizing GOP candidate and are trying to boost him now so they can pummel him in the fall.

[quote] In 2012, McCaskill’s boasting about her efforts to pick her Republican opponent made the maneuver seem edgy—not quite a dirty trick but a perfectly legal bit of political gamesmanship. But Trump’s election four years later, after some Democrats gleefully cheered his victory in the GOP primary, was a searing lesson to be careful what you wish for. “I think politics has changed,” Noorani said. “Strategies like this could end up too cute by half.”

NEW YORK (AP) — A Manhattan prosecutor trying to get President Donald Trump’s tax returns told a judge Monday that he was justified in demanding them, citing public reports of “extensive and protracted criminal conduct at the Trump Organization.”

Trump’s lawyers last month said the grand jury subpoena for the tax returns was issued in bad faith and amounted to harassment of the president.

Manhattan District Attorney District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. seeks eight years of the Republican president’s personal and corporate tax records, but has disclosed little about what prompted him to request the records, other than part of the investigation relates to payoffs to women to keep them quiet about alleged affairs with Trump. In a court filing Monday, though, attorneys for Vance said Trump’s arguments that the subpoena was too broad stemmed from “the false premise” that the probe was limited to so-called “hush-money” payments.

“This Court is already aware that this assertion is fatally undermined by undisputed information in the public record,” Vance’s lawyers wrote. They said that information confirms the validity of a subpoena seeking evidence related to potentially improper financial transactions by a variety of individuals and entities over a period of years.

They said public reporting demonstrates that at the time the subpoena was issued “there were public allegations of possible criminal activity at Plaintiff’s New York County-based Trump Organization dating back over a decade.”

“These reports describe transactions involving individual and corporate actors based in New York County, but whose conduct at times extended beyond New York’s borders. This possible criminal activity occurred within the applicable statutes of limitations, particularly if the transactions involved a continuing pattern of conduct,” the lawyers said.

by Anonymousreply 191August 7, 2020 12:24 AM

[quote]Barr had to admit in his congressional testimony that he could not recall intervening in any sentencing proceedings during his tenure as attorney general except those of two of the president’s friends. Stone was one and Michael Flynn was the other, in whose case Barr similarly submitted a revised sentencing memorandum to lower the government’s sentencing position. So what does this all mean? It means that if you are personally connected to the president or have information that could hurt the president, or both, you can be treated far more favorably by this attorney general, as he will bend the law and facts to the president’s desired result. His actions in U.S. v. Stone strike at the heart of the Aristotelian principle central to the rule of law, that we treat likes alike. John Locke warned that “where law ends, tyranny begins.” Now, more than three centuries later, that statement applies to the head of the American system of justice.

Congress does have power with Barr beyond subpoenas whereby Barr will lie, ignore, delay and fight in the courts to run out the time. The House can't force his removal without Senate action which Republicans will refuse to do.. They can vote "no confidence" in his role as AG. Barr will hate that, and it further erodes his very unpopular and tainted reputation.

There is also the power of the purse. Congress can line-item slash funding content in the DoJ budget as well as other federal agencies exhibiting corruption. When dealing with crooks operating beyond normal parameters and protocol, play hardball aggressively. Otherwise, the message won't get through and it impedes the.corrupt agenda.

"In the 2016 campaign, Hillary Clinton’s campaign paid for the opposition research book on Donald Trump compiled by the liberal Super PAC American Bridge.

In 2020, American Bridge is putting it online for free.

The opposition research rips into Trump’s coronavirus response, detailing the administration’s history of cutting Centers for Disease Control funding and eliminating the CDC's presence in China. Trump’s comments downplaying the severity of the virus and labeling it as a Democratic “hoax” are featured under a section labeled “Coronavirus Communications Failures.”

American Bridge also takes aim at Trump’s environmental, economic, health care and immigration policies. The group singles out the president’s opposition to the Affordable Care Act, cuts to entitlement programs and his "war on seniors" as areas of interest.

As well as policy opposition research, the files seek to portray Trump as personally corrupt, lazy, racist and in mental decline. The history of sexual assault allegations leveled against Trump is also included.

The group’s main takeaway? “President Trump is a historic failure.”

Those companies could apply with up to 500 employees per location, even if they were much bigger overall. Collins took credit for the change, telling a Maine radio host: “I was able to get an exception included in the bill. And I think it’s made a real difference to some of our restaurants and hotels in Maine that are locally owned and needed that kind of relief.” While Collins and other advocates say the exception for hotel chains prevented layoffs in a badly battered industry, it became one of the most controversial features of the PPP. Some firms that initially received PPP funds volunteered to return them because of the public backlash, such as Shake Shack and the Ashford hotel group.

Of course traitor Drumpf has spoken to Putin 8 times this year, at least once a month, after speaking with Putin only 4 times (officially) last year, and he has still refused to denounce Putin putting the bounty on US soldiers in Afghanistan, and is downplaying Russia's active interference AGAIN in the US election. Please, voters, do not put traitor Drumpf back in office again under circumstances. The only place he needs to spend time from now on is in a court of law and then a prison.

I was wondering why they keep sending Trump out on interviews and press conferences when they always go badly for him....We know from news articles that Trump's sycophants in the white house are giving him a positive feedback loop, and so that he believes he's doing a good job with the virus. On top of that, he only watches Fox, where the hosts spin things in his favor.... I'm starting to think that maybe someone is sending him out on these press interviews, because that's the only way to actually sneak the truth to him. He shows his pretty graphs to Swan and gets smacked down. He tells the lie that he passed Veteran's Choice, and he gets smacked down. These press interviews are the only times he has to deal with reality.

I don't see anybody talking about the strategic nature of the leaks about Trump's debate prep.

If the entire country believes that Trump is going to lose in a landslide, the Republican base won't show up at the polls, because, why bother? And if the base doesn't show up, that's curtains for the down-ballot Republicans. So to encourage the donors first, we get a leak from Cindy Adams that Trump is taking the election seriously, and now we get a leak that he's taking debate prep seriously, working with Chris Christie, who famously destroyed Marco Rubio in a debate. The Republican base will be energized because Trump hasn't given up. Of course Trump will find a way to fuck up the debate - that's just Trump being Trump - but Fox will proclaim Trump the winner, and the rubes will believe it. So believing that Trump has a fighting chance, the Republican base will happily show up at the polls. The base isn't large enough to save Trump, that ship has long since sailed... but if the base shows up, the Republicans might be able to staunch the bleeding, which is the best outcome they could hope for.

by Anonymousreply 293August 10, 2020 5:56 AM

[quote]If the entire country believes that Trump is going to lose in a landslide, the Republican base won't show up at the polls, because, why bother?

Rethugs always show up.

by Anonymousreply 294August 10, 2020 5:58 AM

In a normal year with a normal candidate, Rethugs would show up to vote. But we're already seeing the Republican donors back off funding Trump -the Mercers, possibly Adelson and who knows who else - because why invest in a race the candidate doesn't even care about. The same for the base - people who are depressed because they already know the race is lost aren't going to show up, not even Rethugs They need a reason to show up... and so we're seeing the new strategy. I expect we'll be getting regular leaks about how Trump is doing at debate prep, all designed to make the base think Trump is still a fighter. And the media will play into it, because they want a horse race.

by Anonymousreply 295August 10, 2020 6:07 AM

Maybe they're backing off because they're confident they don't need to put their money there.. why bother if you're positive it's being rigged from the inside to yield the results you want?

by Anonymousreply 296August 10, 2020 6:19 AM

Dump will set unreasonable terms for the debate, which Biden will reject & Dump & Fox News will call Biden a pussy for refusing to debate

by Anonymousreply 298August 10, 2020 8:43 AM

I think Trump will show up for the first debate. He'll do badly, but Fox will declare him the winner, same as the last election. It won't help Trump, but it will energize the base to show up to vote, which will help save some of the down-ballot candidates.

[quote]first, we get a leak from Cindy Adams

by Anonymousreply 300August 10, 2020 11:02 AM

Why leak to Cindy Adams first? Because Trump knows her and would have found her fawning column pleasing, at the same time rich NY donors would also read her. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump called some of the NY donors to see if they read the column and to soak up some positive feedback. As I mentioned earlier, it's all very, very strategic.

by Anonymousreply 301August 10, 2020 11:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 303August 10, 2020 11:43 AM

Trump lost every debate to Hillary, but it didn’t matter. His base ate up his glowering, looming, bullying routine. I’m sure he’ll try to do it again. On the one hand, it’ll be harder (for him, anyway) to pull that shit on a man. On the other hand, Biden is probably more easily thrown that Hillary, who was fucking tough as nails.

I sincerely hope that they do not have audiences for the debates. They never should, in my opinion, but this year it’s a medical necessity.

by Anonymousreply 304August 10, 2020 1:45 PM

Trump lost every debate to Hillary, but it didn’t matter. His base ate up his glowering, looming, bullying routine.

I agree with you, R3024, but I also think that Dump's mental capacity has significantly declined since those debates & the press & the LL have attacked him on his weird behavior/speech, problems walking, etc. He can't get through a press conference without storming off when some meany reporter asks him an uncomfortable question. Plus, he clearly views himself as He Who Cannot Be Questioned, all of those factors making me think that he won't agree to debate - though you're right, he could get up there & shit his pants (and he might!), but it will make no difference to the MAGA crowd & Fox

by Anonymousreply 305August 10, 2020 2:43 PM

Fox'will have Miz Lindz on Sean Hannity, Maria Bartiroma, Jeanine Pirro, Martha McCallum, Brian Kincaid, and with Brian Kilmeade (if she can keep her ladybugs from stirring to much), to critique the debates.

The Atlantic lays out a possible nightmare scenario thanks to "Blue shift":

[quote] Imagine that as November 3, 2020, ticks away, President Donald Trump holds a small lead in one or more key states such as Pennsylvania—perhaps 10,000 or 20,000 votes—and seems to have enough states in his column to eke out an Electoral College win. Trump declares victory, taunts Joe Biden, and prepares for a second term. But the reported results on Election Night omit tens of thousands of votes, including provisional ballots and uncounted mail-in votes. Over the coming days, as those votes are counted, Trump’s lead dwindles and eventually disappears. By the end of the week or early the next, Biden emerges as the clear victor in Pennsylvania—and with that win, captures the race for the presidency. If that’s how things unfold, Trump is unlikely to take defeat snatched from the jaws of victory graciously. He has already spent months attempting to delegitimize the election system. So imagine that he instead cries fraud and insists he’s the target of a criminal Democratic coup. What if he encourages his supporters to take to the streets, where there are violent clashes between partisans? He might even urge the Republican-led Pennsylvania General Assembly to submit a slate of Trump-backing electors, citing the Election Day returns, even if the full tally clearly shows Keystone State voters chose Biden. The hypothetical of a blue shift reversing the early projected winner is the “nightmare scenario,” according to the election-law expert Rick Hasen. Either Trump or Biden could win by a sufficient margin to make the result clear on Election Night; it’s also possible that multiple states might see a decisive post–November 3 blue shift, creating even more chaos. “You don’t need to worry about Russia,” Edward Foley, a law professor at Ohio State, told me. “Simply anxiety over a blue shift and willingness to litigate about it and fight about it could cause a raging contestation over a presidential election.”

Trouble is, his Walkers are too fat, too lazy and too cowardly to do anything but scream on social media. Sure, a handful in various cities might show up waving guns around instead of peace signs and threatening people. Most Dems are smart enough to avoid those idiots until they are dealt with.

Who is going to look more "lawless"? Ammosexuals for shitgibbon? Or unarmed mom's? Who are suburban white women going to identify more with?

Barr referring to protesters as "fascistic: and "Bolsheviks" was absolutely disgusting but not surprising. He went on Fox to gaslight, making it seem like the Trump admin is honest and well intentioned while the left is trying to destroy the country in a power grab.

I kind of wonder on some practical level how much different Barr's smug appearances on Fox actually make. It seems like the people who support Dump & Barr will cherry pick any little factoid (well, the protesters clearly aren't peaceful because they destroyed a cop car! Monuments are state/federal property & protesters had no right to take them) to support Dump while everyone sees this bullshit for what it is. Someone else on another thread commented that there was no middle: there were Dump Supporters & there was everyone else. I just hope to god *everyone else* significantly outnumbers Dump supporters this fall

Could this be yet another GOP tactic to suppress the vote?

Jeff Wall, the U.S. government’s top advocate before the Supreme Court, told the District of Columbia Circuit Court that Barr had "secret, undisclosed reasons" for dismissing the case against President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser.

Shouldnt Lindsey stop golfing with Trump on weekends and stay off Hannity each weeknight, and actually try to campaign in South Carolina if she wants re-elected?

[quote]At 51, the software consultant is planning to vote Democrat for the first time. “I think Lindsey Graham, to a large degree, has been a talking head for Trump,” Quattlebaum told me recently. “I know in his heart he doesn’t support everything that Trump represents, yet he does it anyway. And I have a problem with that.” Quattlebaum is part of a sudden and unexpected shift among Republicans in a state so conservative it has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. College-educated moderates and self-described independents have turned on Trump and their anger is threatening the reelection prospects of one of the president’s most prominent surrogates. “I’m not gonna vote for any Republican who doesn’t disassociate himself or herself from the Trump political school,” said Andy Savage, a prominent Charleston attorney and moderate who has donated to Graham’s campaigns since at least 2004. Normally, this anger might not be particularly worrisome for Graham. He won reelection in 2014 by a margin of more than 15 percentage points, and he hasn’t had a credible Democratic challenger since he was first elected 18 years ago. But that is not the case this year. The anger at Trump comes at a moment when Graham is facing his most serious opponent yet: an exceptionally well-funded, politically connected, centrist Democrat who is forcing election observers to wonder if South Carolina might, improbably, be in play. Jaime Harrison, the first African American chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party and now associate chair of the Democratic National Committee, has shattered fundraising records and forced Graham to play defense, running attack ads that cast Harrison as too liberal for his state. Harrison’s campaign raised nearly $29 million by the end of June, compared with Graham’s $30.9 million. Two recent polls, by Morning Consult and Quinnipiac University, showed the two men were virtually tied. Several political forecasters, including the Cook Political Report, Sabato’s Crystal Ball and POLITICO’s Steve Shepard, rate the contest as “likely” Republican, but RealClearPolitics now calls it a toss-up. “This race will be more competitive than I think Graham’s previous races have been,” said Danielle Vinson, professor of politics and international affairs at Furman University in Greenville. “But it’s still South Carolina, it’s still very much a Republican state, and so it’s an uphill battle.”

[quote]When Harris was announced as Joe Biden’s pick for Vice President, Guilfoyle retweeted a post from Donald Trump Jr. calling Harris “phony.” She also retweeted a couple of articles since condemning Harris as an “extreme San Francisco liberal.” Harris has yet to respond or acknowledge her resurfaced contentious history with Guilfoyle. Further complicating the issue is Harris’ own campaign history, which received donations from Trump twice, in 2011 and 2013.  Though Harris’s and Guilfoyle’s timelines overlapped in San Francisco and now in D.C., unlike Harris, Guilfoyle is desperate to shed her West Coast past.

[quote] Michael Cohen forward.....yikes!

The word is foreword. And if this passage is any indication, this book could be good!

[quote] DISLOYAL, THE FOREWORD: THE REAL REAL DONALD TRUMP

[quote] Sitting in the green room on the morning of my testimony before the House Oversight Committee, I began to feel the enormous weight of what was about to happen. For some reason, after all that I’d been through, and all I’d put my family and the country through, waiting in that room was the moment when the gravity of what was about to happen truly hit home. The United States was being torn apart, its political and cultural and mental well-being threatened by a clear and present danger named Donald Trump, and I had played a central role in creating this new reality. To half of Americans, it seemed like Trump was effectively a Russian-controlled fraud who had lied and cheated his way to the White House; to the other half of Americans, to Trump’s supporters, the entire Russian scandal was a witch hunt invented by Democrats still unable to accept the fact that Hillary Clinton had lost fair and square in the most surprising upset in the history of American presidential elections.

[quote] Both sides were wrong. I knew that the reality was much more complicated and dangerous. Trump had colluded with the Russians, but not in the sophisticated ways imagined by his detractors. I also knew that the Mueller investigation was not a witch-hunt. Trump had cheated in the election, with Russian connivance, as you will discover in these pages, because doing anything—and I mean anything—to “win” has always been his business model and way of life. Trump had also continued to pursue a major real estate deal in Moscow during the campaign. He attempted to insinuate himself into the world of President Vladimir Putin and his coterie of corrupt billionaire oligarchs. I know because I personally ran that deal and kept Trump and his children closely informed of all updates, even as the candidate blatantly lied to the American people saying, “there’s no Russian collusion, I have no dealings with Russia…there’s no Russia.”

by Anonymousreply 384August 13, 2020 10:36 PM

Yeah. Not gonna put one penny in Michael Cohen's pocket.

by Anonymousreply 385August 13, 2020 10:38 PM

More:

[quote] Apart from his wife and children, I knew Trump better than anyone else did. In some ways, I knew him better than even his family did because I bore witness to the real man, in strip clubs, shady business meetings, and in the unguarded moments when he revealed who he really was: a cheat, a liar, a fraud, a bully, a racist, a predator, a con man.

[quote] There are reasons why there has never been an intimate portrait of Donald Trump, the man. In part, it’s because he has a million acquaintances, pals and hangers on, but no real friends. He has no one he trusts to keep his secrets. For ten years, he certainly had me, and I was always there for him, and look what happened to me. I urge you to really consider that fact: Trump has no true friends. He has lived his entire life avoiding and evading taking responsibility for his actions. He crushed or cheated all who stood in his way, but I know where the skeletons are buried because I was the one who buried them. I was the one who most encouraged him to run for president in 2011, and then again in 2015, carefully orchestrating the famous trip down the escalator in Trump Tower for him to announce his candidacy. When Trump wanted to reach Russian President Vladimir Putin, via a secret back channel, I was tasked with making the connection in my Keystone Kop fashion. I stiffed contractors on his behalf, ripped off his business partners, lied to his wife Melania to hide his sexual infidelities, and bullied and screamed at anyone who threatened Trump’s path to power. From golden showers in a sex club in Vegas, to tax fraud, to deals with corrupt officials from the former Soviet Union, to catch and kill conspiracies to silence Trump’s clandestine lovers, I wasn’t just a witness to the president’s rise—I was an active and eager participant.

He says this about Elijah Cummings :

[quote] Representative Elijah Cummings had the final word, as chair of the Oversight Committee. I sat in silence, listening to this now deceased man with decades of experience in the civil rights movement and other forms of public service, who as a lawyer had represented disgraced lawyers like me. He understood that even the least of us deserve the opportunity to seek penance, redemption and a second chance in life. Cummings was the lone politician I encountered in all my travails who took an interest in me as a human being. When I reported to serve my sentence, he even took steps to ensure my security in prison. It was a selfless act of kindness for which I will always be grateful.

[quote] “I know this has been hard,” Cummings said to me and the nation, his words hitting me like a kick in the gut. “I know you’ve faced a lot. I know that you are worried about your family. But this is a part of your destiny. And hopefully this portion of your destiny will lead to a better Michael Cohen, a better Donald Trump, a better United States of America, and a better world. And I mean that from the depths of my heart.”

FCI @ R407. There's much emotion, including anger and feeling betrayed, regarding Michael Cohen's perspective on Donald Trump now. It is not necessarily about Michael, who did multiple bad acts in his prior loyalty and service to Trump; then Michael suddenly turns good and righteous. Thus, Michael's capacity to be self-serving in deceptive ways is not shown off a clean slate. Anyone, and I emphasize anyone, who has worked closely for, and deeply with, Trump for a long period of time, are tainted, most by choice. While Michael's motivation may have some of the revenge factor in play, he looks quite sincere at this point. He's speaking the truth about Trump. He's not denying his own misdeeds as part of Trump World. I give Cohen earned credit.

I'm curious to read Cohen's comments about Bridgegate. Without Bridgegate, Trump wouldn't be President. The architect of Bridgegate, David Wildstein, attended JaVanka's wedding, and there was a news articles ages ago that suggested Wildstein hoped to be part of a Trump administration.

I'm also curious to see what Cohen says about Guiliani and his cohorts. We've seen the photos of Lev Parnas at Trump functions... what's the backstory?

The RNC and conservative groups are pursuing an unprecedented effort to limit expansion of mail balloting before the November election, spending tens of millions of dollars on lawsuits and advertising aimed at restricting who receives ballots and who remains on the voter rolls.

They're also mapping out their post-election strategy, including how to challenge mail ballots without postmarks, as they anticipate weeks-long legal fights in an array of states.

The campaign plans to have lawyers ready to mobilize in every state and expects legal battles could play out after Election Day in such states as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan and Nevada.

Rather than denouncing Pirro's remarks, her Fox on-air colleagues attempt to 'qualify' such. Pirro's remarks could be interpreted as sounding threatening or anticipating Biden's demise in quick order. This is very disgusting, baseless messaging from Fox, and the Murdochs need to be held accountable.

[quote]One Tough Question For DOJ If Biden Is Elected: Whether To Prosecute Trump

Spoiler Alert: He won't.

[quote]But he hastened to add that an administration pursuing criminal charges against its predecessor would be "a very, very unusual thing and probably not very, how can I say it? good for democracy — to be talking about prosecuting former presidents."

[quote]Based on those remarks, Biden seems to be on the way to adopting the position of former President Barack Obama. Back in 2009, the newly elected Obama said he didn't want to get hung up on prosecuting wrongdoers. He was referring to people who had engaged in torture and warrantless wiretapping during the previous administration.

"We must look forward and not back," is 2020's, "When they go low we go higher."

I think this might be one of the reasons she was his choice. I also think he is deliberately evading the question to keep a low profile on it. He stands to lose more votes than gain by promoting it. All those who want indictments and prosecutions will be voting for him anyway. It's the once Trump-supporters sitting on the fence he still has to win over.

But this will be a long 3 months, and even longer 3 months starting the day after the election. Anything can happen-On Steroids!

My only hope is that Barr's interference in the release of the Mueller report, which caused a lot of confusion and consequently a big "so what?" from many in the public will linger on and prevent the right wing from convincing most people that their investigation into the Russia investigation is "the real story". Think about it, during this time of sickness and economic despair will most moderates care about 1 bad apple in the FBI who altered someone's emails to use FISA on him after the guy had already left the Trump campaign? That sounds so complicated

I believe Dump is 100 percent guilty of collusion and far worse, but Biden has to walk a fine line here. He has to make it appear as though it’s not a vendetta, and that’s not as easy as you think. We all know what a criminal Dump is. Biden—or the state—has to come with receipts.

That said, I do believe Dump’s supporters don’t give a shit about receipts. They will believe him until their dying breath. It’s never been about logic with these people.

We need an American version of the French Vichy Trials...go after every single politician, talking head, pundit...who amplified Trumps bullshit. They are traitors and need to be treated as such. by Anonymousreply 481August 14, 2020 10:36 PM

I agree those are legitimate concerns. They may wind up overwhelmed by the sheer criminality of every aspect of this administration. There is precedent for arresting the president's little helpers, as they did with Nixon's gang of thieves, including the attorney general John Mitchell. I do think Barr and Jared and Stephen Miller and maybe Kellyanne and no doubt others should be looking at jail time. And if nothing else, there should be a serious Truth Commission dragging all Trump's shitty little secrets, including the tax returns, into the cold light of day.

We need to start monitoring and calling out the Repugs for the cheating they are so obviously planning to supplement their Russain cheating, gerrymandering cheating, voter suppression cheating, outright vote fraud cheating, electoral college cheating, and so on. They are even cheating on the census by closing it early to remove urban population representation from Congress for the next ten years.

by Anonymousreply 530August 15, 2020 9:57 PM

Can anyone explain how we possibly could have fallen to the point where some random person on the twatter can accuse the Chief Justice of the United States with being blackmailed by Jeffrey Epstein?

Oh! So THAT explains why he allowed ObamaCare...

AND when he votes to remove 45 from office...

[quote] It is more than a little ironic that Trump is campaigning for a second term as a law-and-order president. His first term has been dangerously chaotic. Four more years of this are unthinkable.

Trump picks a big donor with zero postal experience and displaying corrupt behavior before the world to help DJT steal the 2020 election by disrupting U.S, mail services. The House is finally calling on his ass to testify next week.

Watch Gym Jordan, Nunes, Doug Collings, Biggs, Gohmert (if still alive), Gaetz, etc. defend DeJoy.

So disgusting.

[quote] "In an extraordinary move, the Trump administration has added a third deputy director to the U.S. Census Bureau amid mounting concerns of political interference with the 2020 census"

[quote] "...in late June, the administration announced a surprise addition of a second deputy director to focus on policy — Nathaniel Cogley, a political science professor who has specialized in African politics. Cogley has been joined by a senior adviser, Adam Korzeniewski, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who was a paid political consultant to a YouTube personality known for racist pranks."

National Review: ‘Inexperienced’ Trump Team, FBI Gave Steele Dossier Too Much ‘Credence’

The committee found that Russia “took advantage” of the Trump team’s “relative inexperience in government, opposition to Obama administration policies, and Trump’s desire to deepen ties with Russia to pursue unofficial channels through which Russia could conduct diplomacy.” However, the report concludes that the Trump-campaign did not “collude” with Russian operatives to win the 2016 election.

“Over the last three years, the Senate Intelligence Committee conducted a bipartisan and thorough investigation into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election and undermine our democracy,” acting committee head Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) said in a statement on Tuesday. “No probe into this matter has been more exhaustive.”
