Protesters hit by cars recently highlight a dangerous far-right trend in America

Who's bright idea was it to protest on a freeway!?! Like how stupid are you? Let's just ignore the fact that protestors are standing on a highspeed freeway, sometimes at night, wearing blue jeans and black hoodie, and sometimes near turns where the driver can't see them until it's too late. It's not some conspiracy, OP. Some protestors are so narcissistic and idiotic. They're ruining people's lives because they're dumb enough to stand on a freeway and potentially causing severe accidents because cars driving at 70 MPH are being forced to stop. People really are getting more and more stupid.

Have you ever driven on a freeway before?! Speed creates velocity, so when someone who's driving between 65-75 MPH, it takes a lot longer to slow down. Couple that with reaction time and cars driving behind AND in front of you, and you have a recipe for disaster. I have to believe that you're just a troll because no one can be this stupid and live. I have lost all faith in the protestors at this point. Why don't you go protest on the freeway and see how long you last? Let's see how your family feels about your cause when they have to identify your roadkill corpse at the morgue. It's fucking ridiculous.

I would not intentionally run someone down. BUT if someone put themselves in my way, to prevent me from moving, and then began threatening me by rocking the car, banging on the windows, getting onto the car, etc, I would definitely take myself out of harm's way by whatever means I had available, which would definitely include taking them out, which is absolutely legal. And they could ride the bumper to the nearest car wash.

What a violent unhappy place. Given that other societies have less freedom to express themselves, for better or worse, Saudi Arabia Russia and China may be more orderly as their people expect less as they go about their daily lives.

Where will ask this lead to I wonder. What happens in America will influence the world. My guess is a post-democracy international order.

In the Portland case, the driver was trying to get through but protestors were blocking the road. The driver was honking and getting frustrated. The protestors surrounded the car and started banging on it. They said this was justified as the car had approached them 'aggressively'. Garrett Foster had an AK47 on him and was also at the car with both hands on the gun. The driver shot him, pulled away, then stopped and called 911 saying he shot someone who pointed a rifle at him. Protestors say Garrett never pointed the barrel directly at the driver but rather just at the car.

I am not sure I would call that a racially motivated hate crime.

News flash: the reason cars didn’t start driving into protesters until 2014 is because protesters didn’t start blocking the roads until 2014.

I've thought about this and what would I do. To be honest, you can't expect people to just sit there, essentially detained/kidnapped, until the mob decides to let you through.

You have no idea where that person is going or what he is traveling for. The drivers are innocent - let them fucking through. You can protest against the cop cars or other law enforcement easily enough.

Now - it's a wholly different scenario if there's a planned protest or if streets have been blocked off and you decide to drive through just to be an asshole.

The latter are the ones looking for reasons to do this as their way of a violent counter-protest.

There was a peaceful George Floyd protest in several blocks of the small city near me in the downtown area. Some ugly deplorable teen in a jacked truck with a 'Murican flag billowing in the back thought it would be a great idea to show his patriotism by commuting 15 miles to run into the crowd. Luckily no one was killed though several were injured. His license plate was photographed and the little asshole was found and arrested.

Ummm, the driver of the car who hit two women (one of whom died) was a black immigrant. But that didn't fit the media narrative, so it was glossed over. Had he been white, all hell would have broken loose.

I'm sick of these protests. I support their "whatever", but they need to get a plan. What are their goals? If they are hoping that white racists (half the country) are going to see these protests, promise to be better citizens and treat minorities with respect, THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Goal one should be to make it easier to fire bad cops. Will it happen 100%? No, but it's a realistic goal

Goal two, increased funding for minorities. This was a very realistic goal after George Floyd's murder. Every dollar spent towards education is a dollar less taxpayers have to spend on incarceration

The longer these protests go on, the more people who are supportive of minorities will be turned off. They won't become racists, but they won't be that supportive. Minorities need all the support they can get.

I don't see black lives matter helping anyone. Have they donated the tens of millions (probably much, much, much more) that they've received to Student lunch programs? legal funds? or anything to help? I haven't heard a thing

R28, I'm not a snob about public schools, I just mourn the current condition of the English language. Since the vast majority of Americans alive today did attend public schools, the fact that so many can't spell suggests that their education was inferior.
