Drake Breaks Madonna’s Record For Most Hot 100 Top 10s EVER
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 29, 2020 12:14 PM |
Just shows how dire the charts are these days
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 27, 2020 7:26 PM |
Damn, it's still amazing that her record stood this long.
That just goes to show how insanely prolific and popular she was at one point.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 27, 2020 7:32 PM |
You have to take into consideration that she was churning out one album after the next for years, way more than most people.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 28, 2020 1:08 AM |
Drake got a lot of those Top 10s as a featured artist on someone else's song. Madonna got all of her's as the lead artist. Big difference!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 28, 2020 1:12 AM |
I bet if you polled everyone in the western world, far more people would be able to list the names of Madonna songs than Drake songs.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 28, 2020 1:20 AM |
Madonna looks like she’s wearing a boobs for queens breast plate in OP picture.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 28, 2020 1:20 AM |
R4, nice try. Mariah Carey and Madonna have about the same number of albums, but Madonna's career is almost 10 years longer.
Drake has released 6 albums in 10 years. Madonna's first 6 were released over about 15 years. Taylor Swift has released 8 albums in 15 years. Rihanna released 8 in about 11 years.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 28, 2020 1:26 AM |
There is a drake in my pond. He does sound hotter than Madonna as far as waterfowl goes.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 28, 2020 1:34 AM |
I have no idea who Drake is.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 28, 2020 1:43 AM |
[quote]Damn, it's still amazing that her record stood this long.
I’m more amazed at how someone who hasn’t been out that long was able to break her record so fast.
She’s probably going crazy since the record was broken by someone who is disgusted with her kisses.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 28, 2020 1:46 AM |
Can anyone name one Drake song?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 28, 2020 1:48 AM |
[quote]Can anyone name one Drake song?
No, but I’m over 35. I’m sure plenty of people under 35 would be able to, just like I’m sure there are probably plenty of people under 35 who can’t name a Madonna song.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 28, 2020 1:50 AM |
Shake my head @ shitty so-called charts nowadays. Singers today release 10X as many singles as older singers did in the past
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 28, 2020 1:52 AM |
Charts are worthless these days. Radio stations have been dying for years. Few people buy CDs. Are chart positions now ONLY calculated by download sales? How boring.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 28, 2020 1:53 AM |
All props to Madonna for her tremendous success and she was a very exciting pop star for many years but lots of those hit songs are garbage. Who’s That Girl, La Isla Bonita, etc. Woof.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 28, 2020 1:53 AM |
And I can't name a single one of them (though I can name ALL of Madonna's). God, music sucks these days.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 28, 2020 1:54 AM |
Do streaming top 10s really count? Madonna did it when the sales were real.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 28, 2020 1:55 AM |
[quote] nice try. Mariah Carey and Madonna have about the same number of albums, but Madonna's career is almost 10 years longer.
Darling, you’re forgetting soundtracks, EPs, greatest hits, etc that came with new songs. That comes to a grand total of 22 releases, which doesn’t included featurings and soundtrack songs like “I’ll Remember” and “This Used to Be My Playground”.
Mariah has a total of

I’d say even Drake fans would be able to name more Madonna hit singles than Drake hit singles.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 28, 2020 3:09 PM |
R6 I wouldn’t be so sure, Madonna is all but forgotten by anyone under 35.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 28, 2020 3:14 PM |
Madonna isn't even among the most streamed artists of all time. That's really how you determine who is the most popular.
Most streamed artists of all time on Spotify (by lead artist credit):
#1 Drake
#2 Ed Sheeran
#3 Eminem
#4 Ariana Grande
#5 Post Malone
#6 Justin Bieber
#7 The Weeknd
#8 Rihanna
#9 Coldplay

But, but Madonna is a much bigger touring artist than Drake!
And she has several number one hits in Pakistan, Czechoslovakia, and Norway! Global is where it matters!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 28, 2020 3:47 PM |
It's embarrassing to get beaten by a Canadian.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 28, 2020 3:59 PM |
Drake would kill for the longevity Madonna has had, R25, and you know it.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 28, 2020 4:47 PM |
r24, that only ranks spotify popularity not overall popularity
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 28, 2020 4:56 PM |
I didn't even know he had that many singles, period. Does he release 20 singles a year?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 28, 2020 4:56 PM |
When Madonna set her record, it was far more impressive because it was at a time when you didn't release 20 singles a year. Now, albums don't really matter and it's all about singles. Didn't Nicki Minaj set a record for most singles on the Hot 100 or something? That shows you how dumb the comparison is.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 28, 2020 5:21 PM |
[quote]But, but Madonna is a much bigger touring artist than Drake!
Not these days. Her last tour couldn’t even fill up 2,000 venues!
Get over it. Madonna had a good run, but her popularity is long over.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 28, 2020 6:13 PM |
Agreed with above posters - they're mixing up a lot of artists on the same single now. Drake was a 'featured artist'.
Outside of Madonna's duet with Justin Timberlake, I can't think of anything else that wasn't 100% her as a solo artist.
They need to put asterisks in these categories. It's not the same thing.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 28, 2020 6:17 PM |
To add to R4, Lady Gaga has released 8 albums in 12 years, counting her Oscar-winning A Star Is Born soundtrack. I believe that makes her the most prolific of all, no?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 28, 2020 6:37 PM |
What's a drake?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 28, 2020 6:44 PM |
I think he's the guy that feels up male basketball players, R34.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 28, 2020 6:45 PM |
SO mediocrity trumps naked ambition.
Are we surprised? It is 2020, after all. The decade of nits.

[quote] Not these days. Her last tour couldn’t even fill up 2,000 venues! Get over it. Madonna had a good run, but her popularity is long over.
Madonna was a big touring act into her mid 50s. Will anyone still be listening to Drake when he's 40?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 28, 2020 6:50 PM |
R24, all that Spotify list teamed ranks is who's currently popular with the demographic that listens (if they actually listen) only to streamed music. According to you, Drake is the most popular musical artist in history ever and the Beatles are chopped liver.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 28, 2020 7:05 PM |
R38, some people' on here seem to forget before streaming, there were digital singles, physical singles, physical albums, physical music videos, etc. A WHOLE WORLD EXISTED BEFORE STREAMING. It was/is much more impressive to sell 10 million physical albums than to get 100 million streams.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 28, 2020 7:08 PM |
[quote] Lady Gaga has released 8 albums in 12 years,
Probably because they kept failing until A Star is Born.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 28, 2020 7:24 PM |
I don't like when these chart stat stories lead to these comparisons of two COMPLETELY different artists. Madonna and Drake's mom could've gone to high school together. They are from two vastly different eras of music so there is no use in comparing them. I will say they both take themselves too seriously at times and think they are deities, that's about all they have in common!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 28, 2020 7:30 PM |
I just saw the old woman trending on Twitter, I guess she begged to be added as a feature to a Dua Lipa song. She’s trying ANYTHING to make the kids notice her, including the 20 year old boyfriend. There was a point in time the dried up old vadge would never have never been so thirsty.

Eldergay bait thread
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 28, 2020 7:35 PM |
It you don’t know Drake songs, you’re just underscoring just how woefully out of touch you are. Might as well be sequestered in a cave, in 1998.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 28, 2020 7:53 PM |
I know Drake songs, they just all suck and won't be remembered in 15 or 20 years.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 28, 2020 7:54 PM |
It's easy to cheat on the steaming sites like Spotify too. Some stans play their artists music on a loop (whether they are listening or not) to get their numbers up.
Madonna has had an amazingly successful career and for a long time. She didn't play it safe either. Always changing things up and taking chances.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 28, 2020 7:59 PM |
In a way, isn't streaming also a false equivalence to actually buying a song/album? If you stream a song once or twice, it's not like you actually bought the song. It's more comparable to demoing a song/album at a record store. Wouldn't a better indicator of popularity be, I don't know, how many repeat listeners a song/album has?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 28, 2020 8:15 PM |
R19/R20, your ability to count is as bad as your ability to post. If you count Mariah's EPs, soundtracks, greatest hits, etc., their output is still about the same.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 28, 2020 8:47 PM |
Drake's songs are shit only schizo autistics would love.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 28, 2020 8:57 PM |
135 singles is a LOT. Madonna has had only 87.
However, note that he was a 'featured artist' on 77 of those. And he has made only 5 albums.
In the past, you didn't release singles without an album (for the most part), but that's all changed now. He is prolific - you have to give that to him.
Even if every song sounds exactly the same Xanax rap.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 28, 2020 9:34 PM |
I think Drake is overrated and that his music sucks, however, I also know that times change and nobody stays on top forever. People get replaced.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 28, 2020 9:37 PM |
r39, it cuts both ways. Yes, current artists benefit from the way we count single sales but older artists benefitted from a market that was more geared towards album sales
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 28, 2020 9:52 PM |
R52, I don't think that's a fair comparison. Music markets today are far larger than they were when album sales peaked. So it's much easier for major artists like Ariana and Drake--artists who are promoted to death--to get a single stream even in far off places in the world.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 28, 2020 10:09 PM |
THIS IS WHY MILLENNIALS SUCK AND POP MUSIC WENT STRAIGHT DOWN THE SHITTER
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 28, 2020 10:14 PM |
R54, it's not just "millennials" who are buying his music. I'd wager many of them are younger than millennials, although DLers don't seem to know what millennials are. It's not like the 80s and 90s didn't have their share of shitty artists, either
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 28, 2020 10:18 PM |
R55, the difference is that the most popular artists of today are Drake, Ed Sheeran, Ariana, etc. while the most popular artists of the 80s were Madonna, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, U2, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, etc. I don't like all of those artists but they are all better and more intersting than Drake.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 28, 2020 10:20 PM |
I love Drake. His music isn’t deep, but it’s great head-boppin, fun, bravado. That’s what listeners love. It has the swag, the attitude, the flow that is popular.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 28, 2020 10:38 PM |
Drake also had 30 top 100 hits at once. It's hardly the same thing.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 28, 2020 10:41 PM |
R56, Phil Collins sucked. And those were hardly the only popular artists of the 80s
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 28, 2020 10:42 PM |
R59, I never said those were the only popular artists--I said they were THE most popular artists, which is a big difference. And I also said I don't even like all the artists listed but they were more creative/intersting than Drake.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 28, 2020 10:45 PM |
Phil Collins is not more interesting than Drake.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 28, 2020 10:47 PM |
I've always been indifferent toward Madonna's antics but it's hard to ignore how pathetic she is. The very picture of a desperate has-been.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 28, 2020 10:49 PM |
R61, Perhaps your judgment reflects your ethnic and age bias, because many would agree.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 28, 2020 10:59 PM |
Pop music? Pish! I'm a movie star!
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 28, 2020 11:16 PM |
This is better than anything Madonna has released in the past 20 years.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 29, 2020 12:03 AM |
Yep, I don’t identify with Madonna. I vibe with Drake.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 29, 2020 12:14 AM |
Oh, please. Billboard's charts are diluted pieces of shit now. The only reason Drake, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, and all of them keep making these "records" is because their dumb stans just let it play on Spotify or whatever, and all the songs from the album enter the top 10. They didn't work like Madonna had to (which is probably why she went off the deep end).
Madonna is the real deal. Drake and them are just trends.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 29, 2020 12:15 AM |
r67 I wouldn't go so far as to say Drake is a trend. He has dominated rap for ten years now, he is at the top of the music industry food chain for the time being.
Mind you, Drake's entrance to entertainment was also not as a music artist. He was an awkward looking, soft, light skinned actor, the exact opposite of everything rappers were. He used his performance skills to effortlessly take over the rap game in a very short time. That in and of itself was a great feat.
And what you all also forget that Madonna and all those 80s greats capitalized off the golden age of the music industry, when selling albums actually made money. These young guys make a tiny fraction off their actual music, they start with no budget. You have to get your own name out there to the masses and generate buzz to get put on like Shawn Mendes and Drake.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 29, 2020 12:43 AM |
r68, true. Drake isn't my favorite but it's silly to call him a flash in the pan.
