OP's comment may be related to the unfortunate fact that since all those singing shows for amateurs started up on TV in the last 10 years or so, singing loud = singing well. It's filtered over into the pop-rock scene in general. You hardly ever hear dynamics any more, at least not by a very popular singer.

I can hardly stand to look at her or listen to her after the disgraceful business regarding the firing of Lindsey. She and Mick Fleetwood should be ashamed of themselves - and I say this as a longtime fan.
