60s nostalgia Western TV

Who was your favorite Bonanza character and why did Adam leave a highly lucrative job to do theater?

This is one of the few things I'm NOT nostalgic about re the 60s.

I had two str8 brothers who loved all that. Oh, the boredom!

Little Joe, who was a free baller. Adam left because his toupee made him sweat under the cowboy hat,

Funny that David Canary who replaced Adam and then won 5 Emmys playing Adam. Michael Landon never won an Emmy.

Pernell Roberts hated wearing his wig and wanted to play Adam without the wig. But the producers wouldn't let him because he looked 16 years older half bald.

Lorne Greene ditched his wife of 20+ years for one of his co-stars on Bonanza.

Two of the initial replacement for Pernell Roberts were fired because of Michael Landon's insistence that he'd be the prettiest male on the show. Landon was fine with Canary, he wasn't tall and not handsome.

David Canary did a fascinating 2 1/2 hour interview 10 years before he died where he dished on some fascinating stuff that was going on at Bonanza. He seemed like such a great guy and whenever some of his AMC costars are interviewed they are going out of their way saying what an amazing, sweet and talented man he was.

So Ben Cartwright had sons by three different women, all of whom died shortly after giving birth? And no one suspected anything was amiss?
