Hulu Removes ‘Here's Lucy’ Episode Featuring Blackface

Hulu has removed an episode of “Here's Lucy” containing a scene with characters in blackface.

“Lucy Meets the Burtons,” episode 1 in season 3 of the sitcom, aired in 1970. In the episode, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor play themselves, trying to escape from riotous fans by disguising themselves in blackface throughout the episode.

Hulu’s removal of the episode of “Here's Lucy” is the latest in a string of shows, including "The Golden Girls," that have had episodes taken down from their catalogues due to blackface.

Gee who's next to be cancelled George hamilton?

Burton claimed the blackface was Lucy's idea in his autobiography. He said he hated working with her and thought it was a stupid premise, but that Lucy insisted it would get laughs.

Does anyone know if it's still in syndication?

I vaguely remember a lengthy thread on that, but I didn't know they don blackface in the episode.

Here's the thread, R7.
