Lesbians, What Do You Find Funny?

Give us an example. A knock-knock joke, ‘Patch Adams’, Calvin & Hobbes cartoons, 80s sitcom ‘Alf’...?

by Anonymousreply 111July 27, 2020 2:06 AM

Nothing is the answer.

by Anonymousreply 1July 22, 2020 2:41 PM

Slipping on a banana skin.

by Anonymousreply 2July 22, 2020 2:42 PM

U-Haul jokes.

by Anonymousreply 3July 22, 2020 2:44 PM

Bananas are the most phallic of all fruit. You think it's funny when womyn slip on them, you hateful misogynist, R2?

by Anonymousreply 4July 22, 2020 2:44 PM

This will be a vey short thread.

by Anonymousreply 5July 22, 2020 2:53 PM

It will be lengthy; taken up by lesbians insisting that they have great senses of humor, while also doing everything possible to prove otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 6July 22, 2020 2:58 PM

R6 haha. You’re right!

by Anonymousreply 7July 22, 2020 3:00 PM

Knock Knock

Who's there?

Elephant

Lesbian who?

by Anonymousreply 8July 22, 2020 3:04 PM

Many sitcoms, cute animal videos, Steven Colbert, Trump interviews, and DL insults that are more funny than mean (there are fewer and fewer of these)

by Anonymousreply 9July 22, 2020 3:07 PM

This thread is not funny. AT ALL! SHUT IT DOWN!

A. That's not funny!

by Anonymousreply 16July 24, 2020 6:50 PM

How many men does it take to wallpaper a militant lesbian's apartment?

Two, if you slice them thin enough.

by Anonymousreply 17July 24, 2020 6:54 PM

So a priest, a rabbi and a lesbian walk into a bar. The bartender says, “What can I get all of ya?“ The lesbian says, “That’s not funny!”

OP, you need to define a Lesbian sense of humor. People either have a sense of humor or they don't.

by Anonymousreply 28July 24, 2020 7:47 PM

C’mon, Girls! Smile, you’re so much prettier when you smile.

by Anonymousreply 29July 24, 2020 9:27 PM

There's a bitter lesbian on the Lesbian BBQ thread who loves proving the point by finding everything 'not funny'.

by Anonymousreply 30July 25, 2020 10:13 AM

Most lesbians are overweight with mobility and self-esteem issues

by Anonymousreply 31July 25, 2020 10:52 AM

That clip @ R27 is SO unfunny.

One of the funniest gurls I ever knew became a lesbian (after years of BFs) and her sense of humor went out the window overnight. I mean she became an orthodox lesbian.

Yes, Kate McKinnon does Kate McKinnon and only Kate McKinnon.

She seems to only play lesbians.

I laugh like hell at the comedy show "Mom." I like (the old episodes of) "black-ish," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Seinfeld" (still!), and many more. Love Colbert, Wanda Sykes, and Suzanne Westenhoffer.

But here on DL, the gay men are like the Republicans and the lesbians are like the Democrats. You guys run roughshod over everybody while we lesbians shake our heads and wait for you to come to your senses.

Let me put it this way -- you boys would be crying and screaming and hissing if lesbians mocked you the way you mock lesbians, fat women, unattractive women, rich women, poor women, and even very attractive and stylish women.

Just sayin'.

by Anonymousreply 45July 25, 2020 1:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 47July 25, 2020 1:53 PM

[quote]But here on DL, the gay men are like the Republicans and the lesbians are like the Democrats.

I find the opposite true: gay men here are overwhelmingly Democrat supports; lesbians here tend to be right-wing because of their transhate.

R48 : Because if there's anything preventing someone for caring about the state of the environment or supporting public healthcare it's being skeptical of the trans bs.

by Anonymousreply 54July 25, 2020 2:23 PM

Lesbians are usually insatiable narcissists who believe all men are obsessed with them, and the older, fatter, uglier they are, the more the believe that.

by Anonymousreply 55July 25, 2020 2:24 PM

This is hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 60July 25, 2020 3:19 PM

Every time they post about they have a great sense of humor, they further prove the stereotype right.

Every time.

by Anonymousreply 61July 25, 2020 3:19 PM

R60 was whining on the BBQ thread.

There are lesbian boards. LChat is one. It’s all lesbians there — you can tell from the total lack of humor.

If you want a specifically British one, you’ll have to look elsewhere though.

by Anonymousreply 62July 25, 2020 3:21 PM

I get it r60, and I know all the gals aren't humourless. It just seems the awful ones are the most vocal. (and we have our share really rotten gay men here too)

If you don't want to play, fine. (as we tend to play rough) Just go elsewhere where you're more comfortable and leave us alone.

Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 63July 25, 2020 4:22 PM

[quote]But here on DL, the gay men are like the Republicans and the lesbians are like the Democrats. You guys run roughshod over everybody

Gay men are running roughshod over Datalounge. We need to remember we're guests here.

by Anonymousreply 65July 25, 2020 5:17 PM

The lesbians, not the straight women, to clarify.

by Anonymousreply 69July 25, 2020 5:43 PM

Lezzie Lez Lez, r68, I thought it was funny and I think lesbians are very good at observational humor, especially about the lives of ordinary women because they have an insider-outsider status in that group. Wanda Sykes, Ellen Degeneres, Rosie O’Donnell, Kate Clinton and a comedian I recently discovered, Jessica Kirson,—I find all of them funny.

Disagree. They turn most of their attention to critiquing men -- gay and straight -- rather than women, who they always defend.

I have met a few humorless Lesbians through the years, but most of the ones I've, pardon the expression, come across have been sweet, supportive, and had a wicked sense of humor. I once met Margarethe Cammermeyer at a Pride event and bought an autographed photo as part of a fundraiser for Lambda Legal. I thanked her and left -and only later realized she signed it, "To ______, who has one of the finest asses I've ever seen on a man. Love, Margarethe Cammermeyer" Since my ass is not worth writing about, I can only ascribe it to her wicked sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 79July 25, 2020 7:21 PM

Interesting question.

While I don’t think there such a particular recognisable stereotype of ‘lesbian humour’ in the way there is for gay men, I do believe that the more andro-butch or ‘ladette’ type of gay women often tend to find similar things funny to outsider straight men. Obviously ‘Male-brain’ theory has been debunked, but it’s hard not to notice the correlation in style of comedy between lesbians & sarcastic men, sometimes.

Speaking personally, my taste runs his I imagine Daria’s ‘Sick Sad World’ would; insult comedy, abridging or ‘overdubs’, sketch-format, and conflict-based humour get me best. A decent, creative, full-bore riff with an impression or caricature absolutely does me (⬇️⬇️⬇️prime example). It impresses me when someone can extract black mad hilarity from an ostensibly-everyday colloquial conversation. On the flipside I rarely enjoy whimsy, Portlandian or gentle humour, mugging, Comedy of Errors or most sitcoms - they make me irritated rather than amused (there are a few obscure exceptions).

There’s a shade of darkness, speed of delivery, realistic base, and expertly deployed-vulgarity required no matter what if you’re going to get a laugh out of me. Most of all I love to be shocked, when a laugh is ripped out of me.

One of the ironies of this thread is that there are far more, and more successful openly lesbian stand-up comics than there are openly gay male standups. Where's the male Ellen, Rosie, Wanda, Paula Poundstone? I could easily name 2 dozen more recognizable names.

One big reason for that: straight audiences seem to not find lesbian comics alienating, and the lesbians (and some gay men) really turn out for them. Yes, the lesbians have always supported lesbian-identified performers, including comics.

And gay men? Well, Mario Cantone. Billy Eichner's funny, but not really a stand up. And, um, there's Ant...

by Anonymousreply 84July 26, 2020 2:10 AM

R84 that’s true. Lesbian Comedian Privilege.

by Anonymousreply 85July 26, 2020 2:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 86July 26, 2020 2:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 87July 26, 2020 8:16 AM

The lesbians I follow on Twitter love John Mulaney.

by Anonymousreply 88July 26, 2020 9:50 AM

Poundstone wasn't convicted of the lewd acts charges. She was convicted of child abuse but not lewd acts, that's why you don't hear that she was a convicted child molester -- because she wasn't.

I thought LChat was funny back in one of its earlier incarnations, R62. Celebrity threads would have me rolling. It was a different humor, more wry sarcasm than what we get on DL, which are often jokes like "Sum Ting Wong" (posted five times in a thread because no one here actually reads the board) or five years of "pussy stinks" threads that won't end until the Pussy Troll individually names every female celebrity who has ever lived.

Not that DL can't be funny but it's pretty much just memes on autopilot nowadays. Maybe the current LChat is the same though, I don't know.

by Anonymousreply 90July 26, 2020 9:56 AM

LChat is far more tightly moderated than here. It really is lesbian only.

Unlike here which is gay man, lesbian and lots of straight woman.

by Anonymousreply 91July 26, 2020 10:35 AM

Lesbians don’t unsettle breeders or challenge cultural norms the way we gay men do.

Do we know what the “lewd act” was ?

by Anonymousreply 98July 26, 2020 1:10 PM

Forcing anyone to sit through her act should count as abuse.

by Anonymousreply 99July 26, 2020 1:15 PM

Aside from Wanda Sykes, all those lesbian comics have reputations for being not so funny onstage to put it mildly.

by Anonymousreply 100July 26, 2020 1:16 PM

Paula Poundstone should get paid whatever Monique gets as a comedy LE-GEND.

by Anonymousreply 101July 26, 2020 1:32 PM

She was charged but not convicted of it, so we have no idea if Poundstone committed a lewd act on her 12yo daughter or not.

She regained custody of her kids, including the girl, and no one has come forward to talk about any of it, so I would question whether this "truth" is really truth or not.

It was 20 years ago, the girl in question is well into her 30s.

by Anonymousreply 109July 26, 2020 11:27 PM

I know of two young women playing ping pong and the most ghastly thing happened. The two young women attend an all-girl school - and we know what goes on there, eh? I know that many lesbians would find this story very funny.
