But here on DL, the gay men are like the Republicans and the lesbians are like the Democrats. You guys run roughshod over everybody while we lesbians shake our heads and wait for you to come to your senses.
Let me put it this way -- you boys would be crying and screaming and hissing if lesbians mocked you the way you mock lesbians, fat women, unattractive women, rich women, poor women, and even very attractive and stylish women.
Just sayin'.

Lezzie Lez Lez, r68, I thought it was funny and I think lesbians are very good at observational humor, especially about the lives of ordinary women because they have an insider-outsider status in that group. Wanda Sykes, Ellen Degeneres, Rosie O’Donnell, Kate Clinton and a comedian I recently discovered, Jessica Kirson,—I find all of them funny.

I have met a few humorless Lesbians through the years, but most of the ones I've, pardon the expression, come across have been sweet, supportive, and had a wicked sense of humor. I once met Margarethe Cammermeyer at a Pride event and bought an autographed photo as part of a fundraiser for Lambda Legal. I thanked her and left -and only later realized she signed it, "To ______, who has one of the finest asses I've ever seen on a man. Love, Margarethe Cammermeyer" Since my ass is not worth writing about, I can only ascribe it to her wicked sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 25, 2020 7:21 PM |
Interesting question.
While I don’t think there such a particular recognisable stereotype of ‘lesbian humour’ in the way there is for gay men, I do believe that the more andro-butch or ‘ladette’ type of gay women often tend to find similar things funny to outsider straight men. Obviously ‘Male-brain’ theory has been debunked, but it’s hard not to notice the correlation in style of comedy between lesbians & sarcastic men, sometimes.
Speaking personally, my taste runs his I imagine Daria’s ‘Sick Sad World’ would; insult comedy, abridging or ‘overdubs’, sketch-format, and conflict-based humour get me best. A decent, creative, full-bore riff with an impression or caricature absolutely does me (⬇️⬇️⬇️prime example). It impresses me when someone can extract black mad hilarity from an ostensibly-everyday colloquial conversation. On the flipside I rarely enjoy whimsy, Portlandian or gentle humour, mugging, Comedy of Errors or most sitcoms - they make me irritated rather than amused (there are a few obscure exceptions).
There’s a shade of darkness, speed of delivery, realistic base, and expertly deployed-vulgarity required no matter what if you’re going to get a laugh out of me. Most of all I love to be shocked, when a laugh is ripped out of me.

One of the ironies of this thread is that there are far more, and more successful openly lesbian stand-up comics than there are openly gay male standups. Where's the male Ellen, Rosie, Wanda, Paula Poundstone? I could easily name 2 dozen more recognizable names.
One big reason for that: straight audiences seem to not find lesbian comics alienating, and the lesbians (and some gay men) really turn out for them. Yes, the lesbians have always supported lesbian-identified performers, including comics.
And gay men? Well, Mario Cantone. Billy Eichner's funny, but not really a stand up. And, um, there's Ant...

I thought LChat was funny back in one of its earlier incarnations, R62. Celebrity threads would have me rolling. It was a different humor, more wry sarcasm than what we get on DL, which are often jokes like "Sum Ting Wong" (posted five times in a thread because no one here actually reads the board) or five years of "pussy stinks" threads that won't end until the Pussy Troll individually names every female celebrity who has ever lived.
Not that DL can't be funny but it's pretty much just memes on autopilot nowadays. Maybe the current LChat is the same though, I don't know.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 26, 2020 9:56 AM |

She was charged but not convicted of it, so we have no idea if Poundstone committed a lewd act on her 12yo daughter or not.
She regained custody of her kids, including the girl, and no one has come forward to talk about any of it, so I would question whether this "truth" is really truth or not.
It was 20 years ago, the girl in question is well into her 30s.
