Alfalfa Club -- who will be the first in this private DC Club to resign over its Robert E Lee connection?
The club was formed by four southerners in the Willard Hotel to celebrate the birthday of Confederate Civil War General Robert E. Lee. Now it has a closed membership of 200 of the richest and most powerful in DC. They have an annual 'meeting' in January, a dinner/dance with music by the US Marine Corps orchestra. The press is not invited and leaves them alone to do whatever it is they do. Why?
I'm watching Andrea Mitchell covering all the BLM and removal of Confederate statues. Will she and husband, Alan Greenspan, resign? And what about its Vice-President, Jim Mattis? He just broke his silence to rightfully condemn Trump's use of force against George Floyd protesters.
So who will be the first to resign?

R1 The other theory is that it's an Eyes Wide Shut type of thing. There's a huge bash at an 'undisclosed location' after the dinner when the wives are supposedly excused. Last year, Jeff Bezos hosted it.

Why do rich people always feel they need to create exclusive clubs? To get away from poor people?

The 2021 big bash is scheduled for one month from now. No word yet on any of these pillars of government and culture resigning...

The 2021 annual meeting was supposed to be held in DC two days ago - Saturday,Jan16 - but obviously it was cancelled due to Covid AND the unrest in DC. Will they elect new officers for the year or will David Rubenstein and Jim Mattis remain President & VP of this "Culture Club" for 2021? Also, did any of the members resign over the Robert E Lee connection?

Oh, Boris. Your attempt to create online unrest is laughable. It is an interesting topic but your snark and sarcasm give you away. You just can't help yourself.

R7 I'm not a Boris and wish I could be 'snarky and sarcastic' -- I enjoy both! This club is so exclusive (see link), all media refuse to report on it, and you have no curiosity about why?

Why would top media and government officials attend a club that commemorate a confederate general?

Because there are about 10,000 more important things going on right now.

Watching Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC on Martin Luther King Day, denouncing the doof who was waving the Confederate flag in the Capitol and praising the removal of Confederate statues after the Charlottesville terror BUT she and hubby have not resigned from this club for the rich and privileged. Hypocritical cunt.

R9 THAT'S the question? Why do they belong to a private club that has never had any
[quote]The club was formed by four southerners in the Willard Hotel to celebrate the birthday of Confederate Civil War General Robert E. Lee. It began admitting Black people in 1974 and women in 1994. In 2009, President Barack Obama spoke at the club's annual dinner, saying, "This dinner began almost one hundred years ago as a way to celebrate the birthday of General Robert E. Lee. If he were here with us tonight, the General would be 202 years old. And very confused."

Simmer down girls. The club has had a touch of the tar brush for almost fifty years.
