Nick Cannon Fired Over Antisemitism

Nick Cannon is raising eyebrows across the internet for the most recent episode of his YouTube talk show, Cannon’s Class, in which he openly promotes anti-Semitic and bizarre racial theories.

Despite referencing fringe conspiracy theories about Jewish people, including “the Rothschilds, centralized banking, the 13 families, the bloodlines that control everything even outside of America,” Cannon repeatedly asserts that their conversation is not about hate. Griffin agrees, claiming that black people cannot be anti-Semitic, since, purportedly, the Semitic people and language are unrelated to Caucasians.

Cannon adds that Black people are “true Hebrews” and praises the controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

“The people that don’t have [melanin] are a little less,” Cannon also notes, claiming that “when they were sent to the mountains of Caucasus … The sun then started to deteriorate them so then, they’re acting out of fear, they’re acting out of low self-esteem, they’re acting out of a deficiency.

“So, therefore, the only way that they can act is evil. They have to rob, steal, rape, kill in order to survive. So then, these people that didn’t have what we have — and when I say we, I speak of the melanated people — they had to be savages … They’re acting as animals so they’re the ones that are actually closer to animals. They’re the ones that are actually the true savages.”

“ViacomCBS condemns bigotry of any kind and we categorically denounce all forms of anti-Semitism. We have spoken with Nick Cannon about an episode of his podcast ‘Cannon’s Class’ on YouTube, which promoted hateful speech and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

“While we support ongoing education and dialogue in the fight against bigotry, we are deeply troubled that Nick has failed to acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism, and we are terminating our relationship with him.”

Poor little Nazi snowflakes!

They're being cancelled AND they have to defend a black man.

Poor things!

The only things dumber than him are the stupid turbans he wears. He was kinda hot once upon a time, but he’s always been a conceited tool. One cancel I can go along with, thankfully.

Actually, he could include Arabs/Iranians, too. Roseanne would still be employed if she had been clear that her attacks on Jarrett were based on her thinking she was either Arab or Iranian...that's the part people ignore. They think she attacked VJ as a black person. Nope. Roseanne thought she was Mideastern which is still an approved target, so don't pretend only white people are allowed to be attacked, dickhead.

by Anonymousreply 22July 15, 2020 4:33 AM

I would never dare ask one of them for fear of all kinds of things, but I'm just dying of curiosity. How do black supremacists explain slavery? Their ancestors were so much kinder and further advanced than the Europeans that they gave them hundreds of years of free labor out of the goodness of their hearts?

by Anonymousreply 23July 15, 2020 4:34 AM

R19, we have examples of this host or that host saying shit about blacks, Jews, Arabs, Mexicans, Asians, gays etc. I'm so fucking sick of some of you only whining when YOUR group is targeted.

Bill Maher regularly attacks Palestinians and Muslims. Has he lost his job? NO. You think it isn't painful for American Muslims or Arabs who have to listen to people constantly attack them and get away with it?

The world doesn't only revolve around you and your particular group and stop thinking you're a bigger victim than everyone else - that's what people are sick of. This constant "Victim Olympics" with every fucking group. The lack of empathy.

by Anonymousreply 30July 15, 2020 4:46 AM

R24 Your mindless rant does not change the fact that there is definite hypocrisy and double standard where the prevalence of Jew hatred, homophobia and racism in the Black community are concerned. Not only is it excused, ignored and far worse, rationalized as you have done, it is rewarded and quite handsomely as stated in R19. I can think of no better illustration of just how much society promotes and rewards Jew hatred in the Black community than this.

by Anonymousreply 32July 15, 2020 4:50 AM

Seriously why do so many Blacks hate Jews (it is a very real thing and always has been)? I get why certain white supremacists /Trumpette types do, as its part of their overall racism, but Blacks aren’t racist that way obviously and they don’t really hate any other group in the same way. Plus, Jews tend to be much more liberal, so really what gives?

by Anonymousreply 33July 15, 2020 4:52 AM

R17, Nah. If he talked about Arab Muslims that way, he’d still be fired. This isn’t’t the early 2000s. Today’s climate only allows for whites to be attacked in these vicious ways.

by Anonymousreply 37July 15, 2020 5:04 AM

Working class cis white men are the most oppressed group in America.

by Anonymousreply 38July 15, 2020 5:06 AM

I recently encountered Black anti-semitism firsthand, and I was so surprised by it, I researched the prevalence of it. The percentage of Black anti-semites is much higher than White ones, according to the ADL. Around 50% of Black people in America are anti-semitic, according to their research. What makes it even more confusing is that they don't see their hatred of Jews as racism or anti-semitism (see: Alice Walker, for example). They just think their beliefs are the truth. And you can't reason with them or get them to see Jews as individuals as opposed to an evil unit. It's sad and scary. And they will see Nick Cannon's firing as part of the conspiracy.

by Anonymousreply 39July 15, 2020 5:15 AM

R39 the only thing I can think of is that Jews proved that affirmative action is bullshit. But blacks rationalize THAT with “well Jews run the world so they had an ‘in’ to begin with.” More reparations for us!

That, and many are also very religious, or at least come from families who are.

It's almost like Nick doesn't want to work, and just wants to live off child support from co-parenting with Mimi. They'll have to cancel him from 'The Masked Singer', and will most likely promote goofy Ken Jeong to host to fill the Asian quota.

by Anonymousreply 42July 15, 2020 5:36 AM

Actually, it's worse than I thought. I just went to LSA to get a take on the reaction among Black people. The firing is their top trending thread and 99% of the replies were something like: "He didn't say anything anti-semitic. Bless him for being brave enough to speak the truth from his platform." Some of them even think he should sue. This problem isn't going away anytime soon.

by Anonymousreply 43July 15, 2020 5:37 AM

It seem to me like he was talking about white people from 400 years ago in Europe who brought slaves to USA.

by Anonymousreply 44July 15, 2020 5:43 AM

Nick Cannon sounds nuts, and deserved to be fired. No mainstream media company wants that on their roster.

But yes, R32 is fucking crazy — leading Democrats do not talk that way. That is just bullshit. I am surprised at how many Dotard Cult members are in this thread, having orgasms as if this Cannon mess throws the election to Trump.

It’s bad enough to hear that gay people are republicans. To realize gays will vote for fucking Donald Trump is downright disturbing.

by Anonymousreply 45July 15, 2020 5:45 AM

Nick and Kanye need to get back on their meds.

by Anonymousreply 46July 15, 2020 6:04 AM

The black ghettos of 40-60 years ago were places that had been Jewish ghettos in the previous generation. The far upper east side, bordering Harlem, for instance, was a Jewish and Italian neighborhood until WWII. Many parts of Brooklyn that became black ghettos were previously Jewish areas, which the Jews deserted as they moved out to Long Island or Staten Island. (Bushwick, for instance). However, many of the neighborhood stores which remained in these neighborhoods were run by the children of the people who had previously lived in those neighborhoods. I can well imagine that black people, moving to these ghettos from the deep South, saw these store owners as oppressors. They were unlikely to know the history of the Jews in America and especially in the bigger cities, and could have no idea about the difficulties and terrible intolerance faced by the Jewish immigrants of the 1890s and early 1900s. I think many simply identified Jewish businesses as representatives of white oppression. That has probably made many of them easy targets for anti-Semitic propaganda.

Black fringe Christian sects have long tried to relate Biblical history to their own. The more sensible course would be to fully reject Christianity, which was no help to black people during slavery years. However, certain biblical themes appealed to slaves and made their lives more bearable, such as the story of the Jews being enslaved by Egyptians, and how they escaped that slavery and got to the promised land. Southern white Christian sects were also significantly anti-Semitic, and those were the folks giving slaves their religious training.

None of this is an excuse in 20 fucking 20 for Nick Cannon to display such appalling ignorance.

by Anonymousreply 47July 15, 2020 6:23 AM

R31 Oh dear. What an unfortunate picture of four unprepossessing old men.

by Anonymousreply 48July 15, 2020 6:58 AM

They are spreading this crap around in Facebook. People like Cannon and that dumb football player are too stupid to tell the difference between fake profiles full of propaganda and anything resembling historical fact.

These two need to go to college or get a tutor. That is no excuse for being that ignorant while being a millionaire.

by Anonymousreply 49July 15, 2020 7:02 AM

R33 and others... People such as Cannon profess Black Hebrew Israelite beliefs... something beyond garden variety antisemitism in my estimation. They attempt to tell a story that they (Africans) are the original Hebrew people, and Jews with white complexions cannot possibly be "real" Jews. Some give a pass to darker complected Sephardim, yet they perpetuate a fallacy that their identity and history has been robbed of them by the Ashkenazim... who they describe as "Turkic converts from the Caucasus... AKA Khazars".

When you come across people writing jibberish about "Khazarian Mafia", or "Khazarian Control"... or those "converted Turks", you immediately recognise it is someone trying to delegitimise Ashkenazi, or European Jews. Chances are, if they are not of African ancestry themselves, they believe this folklore from numerous sources.

The Hungarian Jewish writer and "historian" Arthur Koestler (who later became a naturalised British subject) made similar claims as to the origins of European Jewry in [italic] The Thirteenth Tribe [/italic], 1976. This work is oft quoted by Black Hebrew Israelites, their defenders, Anti-Israel Palestinians, as well as other assorted racists.

Koestler was tolerated by many scientists at the time, who probably wished to avoid any involvement with such arguments involving a history of Jewish descent in Europe. Koestler was also tolerated for believing in other pseudoscientific ideas at the time, such as mysticism being explainable through Theoretical Physics, as well as Lamarckian Inheritance. He and any Eighth Century Khazar rubbish has since been effectively debunked by modern DNA tests, and Genetics.

I wish YouTube as a platform would be more stringent in purging this nonsense, as the site is rife with it. Many uneducated African Americans sadly believe this, and these are the people who murdered Jews quite recently in Bayonne, Jersey City, South Williamsburg in Brooklyn, and the Rabbi in Monsey NY. Five others were stabbed at the Hanukkah celebration that night in the rabbi's home. These people are dangerous, and have been declared a hate group, or domestic terrorist group.

by Anonymousreply 50July 15, 2020 7:26 AM

These aren’t “beliefs”. You’re as stupid as they are.

They have no idea what they are regurgitating. They read this crap in memes on Facebook.

They have no idea what it means or where it comes from. It’s a bunch of gobbledygook.

by Anonymousreply 51July 15, 2020 7:58 AM

Not you r50.

You seem to get they are being fed this on YouTube.

This isn’t some organic belief. They are being spoon fed garbage and have no education to combat it.

by Anonymousreply 52July 15, 2020 7:59 AM

R52 With all due respect, (and thank you for leaving me out!) many do hear this in their churches, and Black Hebrew Israelite beliefs are exactly that, beliefs... It's a type of theology, coupled with racist propaganda. They've been around since the the Nineteenth Century. There are almost countless Black Hebrew Israelite congregations in the US.. Some are very Christian, whilst others are now completely Jewish, and there exist more than a few Black Hebrew Yeshivas now as well. These are not to be confused with Ethiopian Jews, mind you.

They've even left America for Israel, and after much debate, legal proceedings, and strife are now allowed full permanent residency in Israel. (though none can prove descent from practising Jews) Though they have been legally entitled to work since 2003, many receive government benefits, and some collect from Israel and the US. The congregations which learn Hebrew, Yiddish, and study Torah and Talmud are not antisemitic, and they're the minority. It is sadly more than ignorance, or a rewriting of history for some; it's a deeply held belief that they are the original Hebrews.

by Anonymousreply 53July 15, 2020 8:37 AM

Always great that there are never any arguments against such theories, just insults, insults, insults, joblessness, et al. Never any arguments against such theories, which are of course so highly unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 56July 15, 2020 9:03 AM

R54 It's historically inaccurate, scientifically innaccurate, and that is FACT. The "theory" as you refer to the belief that Africans are the original and direct descendants of the Hebrew people (rather than the present day Middle-Eastern and European Jews), doesn't require a formal argument against such a rubbish, racist "theory". It's not only antisemitic, but also Black Supremacy.

If you believe it to be a legitimate theory worthy of debate, you're in desperate need of an education yourself.

by Anonymousreply 60July 15, 2020 9:20 AM

R60 Jews have never been terribly keen on Black Hebrews Israelites, or those who espouse those beliefs. Educated non-Jewish people, regardless of colour, also find the beliefs to be cringeworthy, guilty of historical revisionism, as well as Black Supremacist. Some of these same believers have been taught that Shakespeare, Mozart, Beethoven, and Moses were all African.

You're attempting to inject a false narrative here. This isn't the new or latest game plan cooked up by the Rethuglicunts.

As a Jew, I find the idea of it all a bit more than ironic that both the Egyptians and the Jews were the same Black people! Clearly disdain for Jews by some African-Americans has gone back a long way in time. It wasn't invented by the Right-Wing, or Nick Cannon. That's evidenced by many of the posts here on this thread as well.

by Anonymousreply 61July 15, 2020 9:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 67July 15, 2020 12:20 PM

I'm surprised no one has yet to take notice that even with rebuttals on behalf Cannon, saying he didn't mean any of it to sound hateful, it definitely qualifies as cultural appropriation, if anything really does.

To usurp the identity of Jews around the world, and claim to be the actual historical Israelites is very offensive.

by Anonymousreply 68July 15, 2020 12:51 PM

r65 Nick Cannon's talk show is over. They just haven't announced it yet. I have no inside information on this, just know what he said makes his employment with a major American entertainment company impossible in the near future. It's clear from the PR statement put out by Viacom that they tried to get him to walk it back and apologize and he refused. A talk show doesn't just depend on Lionsgate, it depends on local affiliates picking up the show. They won't.

I hadn't been aware there was a talk show launching in the fall, but it was, and as of today, it will be no more. Lionsgate wont even have to blame the pandemic. They'll drop him though. His agency may drop him as well.

Nick had a window to contain the fallout. He chose not to. He refused to play the game and he will experience consequences which were probably laid out for him in no uncertain terms when he decided not to get ahead of the fallout with an experienced PR team strategy.

by Anonymousreply 79July 15, 2020 8:47 PM

There is no argument against affirmative action while there may be very good arguments against quotas. Jewish and Asian applicants are usually very much opposed to quotas.

What affirmative action demands is that employers, schools, etc get off their asses and broaden their search for those applicants who may not have otherwise come into their sphere. Who could reasonably oppose that? Broadening the search, instead of relying on the good old ways that funneled opportunity to the same old pool of people, should bring in more women and minorities.

This Nick guy is a tool.

by Anonymousreply 80July 15, 2020 9:00 PM

He was talking with Professor Griff what would fucking you expect? Hello!

by Anonymousreply 81July 15, 2020 9:08 PM

Just really makes me sad and angry that these Black guys like Cannon, DeSean Jackson along with some other football players would pick this time to pull this bullshit.

We were finally making progress with BLM after George Floyd. White people were mobilized and marching with us, in some cases standing between us and the police so we would not be hurt. And these assholes just have to swing the attention away from a movement for justice and police accountability to this argument over Black people being true Hebrews.

What a fucking waste.

I get that what underlies this is the desire to feel like we are the chosen people after all the oppression and violence our community has suffered. I compare it how gangs manage to recruit people because they offer a feeling of belonging and power to those who join. So if we are the true chosen people that means instead of the Bible saying that we are animals, beasts as was told to us during the slave trade, the Bible actually anoints us as special. The Bible was used to prove our unworthiness during slavery, so some are trying to turn it back and give power and favor to the Black community. I fully understand the need to be able to show pride in our history but why are these guys not seeing that attacking anybody at this time hurts the progress we have made in the past months and that this direction they are taking us could bring more damage than it will bring anything else.

by Anonymousreply 86July 15, 2020 10:06 PM

R84 What does that have to do with anything?

R82 Thank you for your reason and insight. As a Jew, I can't even grasp this fixation some Black people have with the concept of "Chosen People". It's from a bible story. It's part of the lore, but it's not at all relevant in the day-to-day lives of average Jewish people dealing with the same problems and concerns as everyone else. So Nick Cannon can call himself Chosen if it makes him happy. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't change anything.

Sad as it was to come to this new understanding, I’m glad the issue has come to light. It’s never good to be unaware that your fellow citizens harbor Nazi-level hatred toward you and would, if they could, probably take matters to the same place the Nazis did. I still have the same empathy for Black people that I’ve always had. I foolishly thought of Blacks as a fellow minority and believed that view was reciprocal. Clearly nothing could be farther from reality. I’m going to be very cautious and vigilant going forward. I will emphasize from a distance.

So, you think white people should have to take a bullet for you to prove they're not racist? Are you fucking crazy?

by Anonymousreply 98July 15, 2020 11:14 PM

The strain of antisemitism in the black community has been there festering for decades.

The shit about Islam and the Chosen People can be heard on streetcorners in mid-town Manhattan around 8th Avenue and 42nd Street any day of the week.

I do love Cannon's "they began to deteriorate" as they became white as he stands amidst a culture supported by white inventions, including medicine and technology, none of which came from Africa.

The astrophysicists, the pioneer biologist, the vaccines, the combustion engine, electricity . . . Newton, Copernicus, Galileo, Einstein, Bohr, the Curies, Salk, the guy who pioneered heart surgery, all white Europeans or white Americans of European descent.

It's a cultural inferiority complex turned inside out. And of course the number of Jews in that pantheon must be infuriating as well. Fortunately, Jews are a mostly disliked minority, as well, so it's safe to use them as a whipping boy.

The ignorance is astounding and, it must be said, rather pathetic.

It's not a good look for the black community and I'm beginning to sense a rightwing white backlash forming.

I have Jewish friends. They are totally non-observant. But they took a look a the National of Islam providing "security" at George Floyd's memorial (not one peep out of the black community, but more distressing, not one peep out of the white liberal community) and one of them said bitterly to me, "Some things never change. Fuck them."

And you're talking about a lifelong Manhattan Jewish liberal.

by Anonymousreply 115July 16, 2020 1:32 AM

Yes, I agree with that assessment.

by Anonymousreply 116July 16, 2020 1:36 AM

R87 Thank you for your clarification on any notions of "chosen status" from another Jew here. This simply isn't taught in the Liberal-Progressive and Reform traditions. R82 Thank you for your sensitivity and observations as well.

We do stand with you, as many other Jews have during the civil rights movement. This is very unfortunate timing; I agree. As I had mentioned upthread, this is nothing new, or particular to Cannon, so I don't believe Jews in general would hold this against all African-Americans, or influence their decision to support BLM, and an end to the senseless killing of African-Americans by law enforcement.

It's really surprising he would fall prey to such folklore, and such teachings. I would be curious to learn where he picked up these beliefs. Was it a more recent thing, or rather something he was taught as a young boy.

by Anonymousreply 117July 16, 2020 1:43 AM

R88 True. Sweeping generalisations are never favourable, as they always stick the majority of any group with a bag of stinking excrement. Obviously not all African-Americans believe this nonsense. Many are probably even completely unaware of these groups, and what they stand for.

Though Southern Poverty Law Centre has identified 144 such Black Hebrew Israelite groups in U.S. as hate groups, some do not share the same ideaology, but rather believe something a bit more respectful to Jews, albeit misguided. The ADL makes such a distinction. Some do not express current living Jews have usurped them, but that they are either a "lost tribe" or that all Africans are the descendants of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Sadly Cannon doesn't believe as the less odious groups do.

by Anonymousreply 118July 16, 2020 2:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 120July 16, 2020 2:29 AM

this situation is a replay on many other celebrity scandals--celebrity mouths off by repeating incorrect historical information that comes from a negative source or community. To call him anti-semitic is silly, there are so many in the black community who believe and propogate these falsehoods. but when confronted, he chose to fall back on the bullshit instead of getting up to speed on why what he said is considered anti-semitic

by Anonymousreply 121July 16, 2020 2:30 AM

How many blacks have been evicted and put out of the streets by greedy landlords over the decades. One can do the math and see where some of the hatred comes from.

R121 His statements do come off as Anti-White, and Black Supremacist at the very least, if some of us are going to give him a pass that these beliefs are not inherently antisemitic. Perhaps it's best to say ithe discussion of his "class" smacks of anti-Jewishness, and was offensive to all white people.

That's the only other wording I can agree on. If he does wish for any sort of redemption, he ought to speak to how he was taught these beliefs, and by whom. Perhaps people may be more understanding of his limited formal education as regards Ancient, and World histories, Geography, and Genetics.

I'm going to read the apology before I opine further.

by Anonymousreply 124July 16, 2020 2:43 AM

It doesn't look good for him, as his apology takes no real responsibility for his speech. This may be apropos for a slip of the tongue, and when a bad pejorative slang word slips through the governor on one's lips, but not sufficient in this case.

He doesn't renounce the beliefs either, or claim to have been misled. It doesn't ring true to my ear. A publicist or an attorney forced his hand to make this statement. He ought to have taken more time with it, or saw a crisis specialist. That is if he's sincere. It's really hard to backpedal from such a diatribe.

by Anonymousreply 125July 16, 2020 2:59 AM

[quote]How many blacks have been evicted and put out of the streets by greedy landlords over the decades.

by Anonymousreply 126July 16, 2020 3:07 AM

R122 Are you implying that all landlords are Jewish? Why don't we hear about hatred of Christians due to greedy Christian landlords? I've had a few of those. And you know what I did? In fact, this will fuel their hatred even more because he's clearly succumbing to the pressure of financial considerations.

And now that the rug has been lifted, we are fully aware of how much they hate us.

by Anonymousreply 133July 16, 2020 3:40 AM

Farrakhan is the black David Duke, yet black celebrities flock to him, collaborate with him, and endlessly sing his praises, yet nobody ever calls them out on it. He continuously says the most hateful things about Jews imaginable, yet it's only ever reported in Jewish publications. And from the far left, who make it their mission to vilify people for 10-year-old tweets, and who hear "racist dog whistles" everywhere, never have ANYTHING to say about this piece of shit in a bad process and a bow tie.

Fuck Nick Cannon forever.

by Anonymousreply 134July 16, 2020 3:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 141July 16, 2020 6:23 AM

I believe the apology is sincere because it happened right after P Diddy offered him a job. This brought much more attention than Ice Cube or P Diddy's Twitter ramblings. I'd rather give the benefit of the doubt to someone who says they are willing to be educated rather than try to cancel them so that they become a martyr and idiots can say, "see, look what the Jews have done..."

by Anonymousreply 142July 16, 2020 6:50 AM

R142 yeah but then what he apologizes and the whole thing blows over? Look how many Black celebrities supported him. Ice Cube says the Jews bought of Kareem and THAT’s not an anti-Semitic remark? It keeps happening and it’s going to continue to keep happening. Or, if you want a real eye opener, peruse some of the comments from these dumb fucks on Diddy’s IG post.

We all know that if a white or Jewish person said something even half as bad about a Black person they would be cancelled forever. This wasn’t some joke (I’m all for jokes), or a slip of the tongue, or seeing something from 30 years ago thru 2020 eyes.

There was a Semitic people called the Hyksos who were expelled from Egypt around the time the Hebrews are supposed to have left Egypt. If there is a connection, then the original Hebrews were not African.

The origin of the ancient Israelites is shrouded in legend and likely forever a mystery, but scholars generally include in the mix a number of different people making up the Israelites. But none of these groups are African or sub-Saharan African (which is what is usually meant by "black").

Now the latest comments to come out this AM dig his grave a bit deeper: blaming Viacom and Sherry Redstone. Apparently he tried to arrange a conversation with her, and he's offended she refused his calls.

There's a two page incoherent rambling in DailyMail with odd claims many people and rabbis from the Jewish community have reached out to him, and shown him love. I did not see any names listed. Copy is in a very tiny font, even enlarging on ipad mini, hard for me to make out, so perhaps he does name some prominent members of the Jewish community.

He still blames Viacom for cancelling him, seems entitled, and tone deaf. Fox is to allegedly keep him on. He makes the claim he's working on a PhD in Divinity Studies. Wow, it seems as if he skipped something somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 158July 16, 2020 2:51 PM

R155 It's not scholarly to make such clumsy attempts to compare people of the Ancient World with terms such as "Caucasian". In very early texts, Hebrews and other people are often described as having complexions that were white, golden, and having blonde and red hair.

You cannot make a fair assertion they were not what most of us would consider white.

by Anonymousreply 159July 16, 2020 2:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 162July 16, 2020 3:08 PM

Jesus came along 15 to 18 centuries after the Hebrews left Egypt (if there is any history there), so don't make any connections between what those people looked like and Jesus. You would do better to see how Greek and Jewish historians more contemporary with Jesus described the people of the area.

by Anonymousreply 163July 16, 2020 3:11 PM

Ice Cube, Nick Cannon, Griff, Diddy, Dwayne Wade, DeSean Jackson, Stephen Jackson, and others subscribe to widely held beliefs among a large segment of black population. Beliefs that include black separatist/ supremacy, antisemitism, homophobia, and misogyny. They have been an accepted voice within black communities and they’re absolutely BSC with their conspiracy theories. That they criticize Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who is in a class by himself as an intellectual athlete fighting for human rights dating back to the ‘60s, should tell you something about BLM is shaping itself after the hard-left.

If you dare to call out wrongs or express opinions that deviate from the group’s ideology, then you will be shamed and denounced publicly. It doesn’t matter if you’re KAJ, someone who publicly supported Ali and was himself outspoken in the civil rights movement at a time when basketball players were paid shit and easily cut down for their beliefs compared to today. Yet he spoke out due to conviction only to now have a bigoted clown like Ice Cube call him a sellout to the jews for rightly calling out bigotry.

by Anonymousreply 165July 16, 2020 3:34 PM

Interesting how ViacomCBS would have kept him on if he had apologized earlier, and that Fox has kept him on precisely because he now has apologized.

If a white guy had said those things he would have been fired within 24 hours and no amount of apologies would have made a damn difference. Such a double standard. It's like they're saying "Oh, poor him. He's black, so it's not his own fault that he's ignorant".

by Anonymousreply 166July 16, 2020 3:41 PM

Surely there were people with a more brown, or reddish brown complexion in the area at the time as well... There were many Mediterranean type people in the region, as well as the Semites. The early descriptions of Phillistines, other Canaanites, and Phoenicians (present -day Lebanese and some present day Syrians) are all Mediterranean groups.

Where this fallacy that none were fair or light complected began escapes me.

by Anonymousreply 167July 16, 2020 3:41 PM

[quote]Interesting how ViacomCBS would have kept him on if he had apologized earlier, and that Fox has kept him on precisely because he now has apologized.

Its all about business. Nick's shows across their various platforms get ratings in key demos, and not to mention his upcoming talkshow. Nick has been an asset to Viacom. He been on their programming since he was a tween and really never stopped. IMO he is more difficult to replace than an older white man, who these type of comments usually come from. Thats the only reason they hesitated.

by Anonymousreply 170July 16, 2020 3:55 PM

Esau is ruddy, in fact.

All of this goes along with what serious scholars will tell you: There is no racial purity because race is an artificial concept. Within any groups you will find a wide variety of physical characteristics.

by Anonymousreply 171July 16, 2020 4:01 PM

R171 I'm a scholar, and former science writer so I can give a general accounting of what the field of Genetics supports on the matter. Genes which code for lighter complexions, or "less melanin" were in the Levant and Fertile Crescent before such presence in European populations.

Traits such as blue and green eyes, honey, or milky complexions, and lighter hair are all associated with the people of the area. These groups are essentially the ancestors of the ancient Israelites.

These lighter skin tones, and hair and eye colours are still to be found throughout the regions. As noted, especially in the Syrian and Lebanese populations without heavy Arab or Islamisation.

by Anonymousreply 172July 16, 2020 4:10 PM

I've been doing some research and have been recently learning about Brazilians within the USA. Although Brazilians only make up about 0.1% of the American population, they somehow represent over 75% of the media and elite corporate America, are the majority of bankers, own the most professional sports franchises, have majority control of America's public school system, and also have major influence within the US government.

In fact, a large portion of Government public servants actually have dual-citizenship to Brazil... That part kinda freaks me out not gonna lie... How can someone claim to have the USA's best interests in mind, while simultaneously being loyal to Brazil and Brazil's agenda? It seems like that could complicate things but IDK...

Anyways, I was just wondering, how did Brazilians come to gain such a disproportionate amount of power and influence over a nation while being such a tiny minority within it?

Saying that people shouldn't be cancelled is not the same as saying that we shouldn't challenge their views or encourage them, and by extension, others to learn and adapt.

by Anonymousreply 181July 16, 2020 6:26 PM

No, he and others with his beliefs should not be cancelled. Their voices should be amplified everywhere, so all white people can see what he and many other black people truly believe about them: “[bold]...the only way that they can act is evil. They have to rob, steal, rape, kill in order to survive[/bold]. So then, these people that didn’t have what we have — and when I say we, I speak of the melanated people — they had to be savages … They’re acting as animals so they’re the ones that are actually closer to animals. [bold]They’re the ones that are actually the true savages[/bold].”

Long may he and his friends keep propagating this idea that some races are inherently evil, dirty, dangerous and inferior by birth. Say it loud and say it proud. It always ends well.

Me, I'll be waiting from the outcry from those who throw around the term "Nazi" at every opportunity, now that they are confronted by real, blatant pseudoscientific race-hatred that would have embarrassed Josef Goebbels with its virulence.

Most people who live on the shores of the Mediterranean have similar coloring and features. Most have dark curly hair, rather generous noses with a bit of a pronounced ridge, sometimes described as aquiline or "Roman", olive complexions, brown eyes, generous eyebrows. and often body hair is rather curly as well. It is clear that over the millenia that the Mediterranean, with the northern part being ringed by mountains and hostile to land travel, has been traversed by traders traveling along the shores in boats, and thus the genes of the seagoing peoples were widely shared. This is the basic genotype from Spain to Israel and all points in between. There have been frequent invasions by other groups, so, yes, there are many people with blond hair and blue eyes in these lands, and also some with darker eyes, skin, and kinkier hair, indicating more southerly ancestors, but the vast majority of people living around the Mediterranean fit the description above. There is no reason to assume that the Jews of ancient times were any different. The ancient Jews would not have appeared as "black" to us, but they also wouldn't look like northern Europeans.

In the linked picture, it's easy to see how very similar all these women's features are. Most are Mediterranean, some are Eastern European.

R105 Your remark overlooks the fact that over 99% of Jews have nothing to do with Hollywood. But in your mind it’s OK to hate all Jews because a small subset are guilty of the crime of being successful in that realm. But I guess any excuse to hate will do for a racist.

Fired Over Anti-Semitic Comments, Nick Cannon Wants 'Wild 'N Out' Ownership

The whole anti-smitisim movement is so odd as it pertains to the black community. As Jews, social justice (not the IG version) is built into our fabric. I'm a Jew who reads the Jewish Journal in LA, which I find to be the most balanced source of news on daily events. The editor was saying in his podcast that there is a huge anti-America sentiment and when the country as a whole gets anti-American, it gets anti-Jew, which has been see throughout history. During the protests, there were swastikas on Rodeo, kill the Jews written on the Lily Pond, and a lot of Jewish pharmacies and businesses were looted. The Jewish community very aware of anything anti-semitic and is always on high alert for it at all times.

I've had debates with people who align themselves with the far Left Socialist crowd and the crap that they spew about Israel is something else. Shockingly, many Jews on the far Left actually agree with this rubbish. The fact that they spend so much time on this one foreign country while there are tons of others doing worse things on a daily basis is very telling. They blame all those other countries' issues on white colonization. Somehow white Europeans and Jews are always the problem.

by Anonymousreply 208July 17, 2020 6:08 AM

by Anonymousreply 209July 17, 2020 6:09 AM

A black person once told me that (I guess some of) the resentment the black community feels towards Jews comes from the fact that historically blacks have lived in areas where their landlords were Jewish and are basically slumlords. I dunno. Minorities hating minorities is as old as the hills. No one bats an eye when a WASP does well, but a minority group - they must have gotten to where they are via nefarious means.

by Anonymousreply 210July 17, 2020 6:11 AM

People who don't like to think will easily use scapegoats to explain away their problems. Gays, Jews, Muslims, blacks, Latinos, etc. It's just easier to blame a tiny group of people who don't have the numbers to fight back.

About this Nick Cannon thing, I just saw people claiming the whole myth of the Black Hebrew Israelites and how he's totally correct, and what's the problem? I think the black community still has identity issues. Historical revisionism makes them feel good (ie Cleopatra was black).

No - you don't say! Neither would the ancient (or current day) Chinese, Japanese, Mongolians, or for that matter, Picts.

Yes, generally speaking, the Mediterranean area shows more olive complexions, large noses, brown eyes, and dark hair than you'll find in, say, Iceland.

And in China, Vietnam, and Japan, you'll find overwhelmingly Asian peoples with straight black hair, brown eyes with epicanthic folds, and of relatively short stature by Western standards.

What's your real point?

by Anonymousreply 214July 17, 2020 12:37 PM

Nick and Charlemagne are ding dongs, just ignorant entitled black men who think they are better then all women and white men. They feel they are superior to all forms of life.

by Anonymousreply 215July 17, 2020 12:40 PM

R211 - "It's just easier to blame a tiny group of people who don't have the numbers to fight back."

Fair point, but the fact is, Muslims number more than one billion on the planet right now, and Islam is the fastest growing religion in the West as Christianity collapses under its own identity crisis, especially here in Old Blight where the CoE has one foot out the door and the other on a banana peel.

As for Latinos - they already outnumber blacks in America. They aren't a tiny minority: they are already about 17% of America's population, while blacks represent about 13% - and that figure, due to rising rates of intermarriage, is not only unlikely to increase, but according to Pew is likely to decrease if immigration levels remain unchanged.

The most quickly rising rate of immigration into America is . . . Asians.

R186 Though I agree with much of your post, I don't believe you're completely right in your suggestion that people of the Levant, or Middle East cannot apoear as a Northern European.

Haplogroup R1b-173 is considered indigenous to the region, it spread during the Neolithic period from the Middle East to Central and North Asia, and therefore is considered to be pre-Indo-European. It happens to be the LARGEST haplogroup in Western Europe, reaching over 80% of the population of Ireland and the Scottish Highlands, Western Wales, and other places, including Northern Europe.

R1b generally, is commonly the Haplogroup of Levite (original members of the tribe of Levi) males, as in my Jewish family. We appear virtually indistinguishable from other Europeans. Our complexions range from the palest blue-white, to pink, to olive. I have green eyes, and was blond as a child. My skin tone is pink, yet I tan quite easily. My father has a medium complexion (white) black hair, and pale blue eyes.

R1b-V88 is associated with the domestication of cattle in Mesopotamia. R1v-V88 migrated south to Egypt and and the Levant over 10,500 years ago, or 8,500 BCE.

by Anonymousreply 224July 17, 2020 3:08 PM

Nick's allegiance to Farrakhan is shady. In the NOI, you have to hate devilish white people and jews. They believe that the white race was created by Yakub, a black scientist, and that Allah had allowed this devilish race to hold power for 6,000 years. Their time was up in 1914, and the 20th century was to be the time for black people to assert themselves. Sounds like Scientology..

There are definitely better role models other than Farrakhan out there. Like Congressman John Lewis who walked the walk with the Freedom Riders back in the 60s. He spoke out about his white allies and how the white kids got beat worse because they were seen as race traitors. He talks about the "Mississippi Murders" of Goodman and Schwermer, two young jewish civil rights workers, who were killed along with James Chane, by the Klan back in 1964. The problem with Lewis is he doesn't talk in corny poetic stanzas or rail from the pulpit nonstop about black victimhood.

I really wish somebody would have the guts to do a "Going Clear"-style expose of the Nation of Islam.

It's an equally crazy cult, started by a grifter/con man who wasn't even black himself (he was half white, half Polynesian).

They wield tremendous influence in the black community, yet mainstream America knows very little about them.

Somehow, they're able to escape any widespread scrutiny of their beliefs and practices.

There have been a couple of books written about them over the years, but nothing particularly overtly critical.

They are classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group, yet it does little to harm their reputation.

It seems like people are afraid to speak out against them.

by Anonymousreply 233July 18, 2020 2:38 PM

Can you imagine how much it must suck to be a black world history teacher with a classroom full of black students? How the hell do you put any kind of positive spin on it? It's just as legitimate as this Black Egyptians crap.

by Anonymousreply 234July 18, 2020 3:11 PM

R234 Sadly there ARE people other than African-Americans who buy into some of this however... I was just countering a poster on a related thread who believes Jews, Mozart, Beethoven, Shakespeare, and Moses cannot be white. When pressed, he explained though they may not be West African, he said they cannot be white either. He claimed they're "something else".

He equates North Africans, to Hebrews, Egyptians, and other Middle Easterners. It's an American problem I believe. I think any antisemite or anti-Jewish person clings to such rubbish statements really.

by Anonymousreply 235July 18, 2020 4:01 PM

r214. Those photographs were COMPOSITES. They are not actual people - thousands of pictures of females from those countries are overlaid to achieve a look that is representative of the women in that country. I'm quite certain that they didn't leave out pictures of blond and redhaired people when they were creating the composites.. But those other looks are so much the exception that they didn't affect the final composite images. That's my point. If you looked at a picture of 100 Jewish women, maybe 10 would be blond haired and blue eyed. But the other 90 would be dark haired and brown eyed. On the other hand, if you took a picture of 100 women from Iceland, maybe 90 would be blond or light brown and green or blue eyed, 5 would have some darker shade of brown, and fewer than five would have black hair and dark eyes. So the composite is not going to look like pictures of Mediterranean people.

My other point is to r223 - I didn't suggest that people from the Levant could not have appeared to look like northern Europeans in ancient times. First of all, the human race NEVER STAYS PUT. People are always and have always been on the move, looking for a better spot. And every human being on the planet is capable of mating with a person of the opposite sex, no matter what color hair or skin, and having viable offspring, and soldiers, sailors, herders, and other traveling people have always spread their genes everywhere they went. We are all one species. But the widespread prevalence of blond hair and blue eyes in far northern Europe is thought to be because that those features might have been a protective advantage for people living with low levels of sunlight and thus those mutations were preserved there. There would be ZERO advantage for someone with pale skin that sunburns easily living in a desert/semi-arid country. There might be SEXUAL advantage (a person would stand out and thus might be selected for sexual reasons), but the children might die of skin cancer before reproducing, so in the long term, not an advantage. Also, we can't take modern Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews, of being representative of the gene pool of people living in the Levant 2000 years ago, because there has been much mixing with non-Jewish populations in the intervening centuries - particularly before 1000 AD (CE) - sometimes on purpose (with people on the Italian peninsula in the Roman era), and sometimes as the result of rapes . Sephardic Jews tend to look much more Mediterranean in features and skin color.

by Anonymousreply 236July 18, 2020 4:58 PM

R236 You can believe as you like, and I'll believe the genetics. It's also one mutation which accounts or codes for blue eyes... all blue-eyed people thus share a common ancestor. Whatever makes sense to you, or had made sense to archeologists and anthropologists is trumped by genetics. As Instated before, the genes for reduced melanin, white skin, and blue eyes originated in the Fertile Crescent and the Levant, before spreading to Europe.

You also keep repeating so much admixture, which teally does not show up on the radar, as Ashkenazi ate still a very pure Middle-Eastern people... the way we clade with other haplogroups proves this.... We only ate linked to other JEWISH populations, NONE of the host host countries we have lived in.

The only two "Events" of European admixture which show up, are Southern Italian as you mention, yet they ate limited to two introgressions: Neolithic admixture on the Mitochondrial DNA from wives who converted, and a smaller portion of Ancient Italian admixture during the Roman Empire.

Laws and conditions were such that all this "mixing" as you imagine to be so very prolific, was next to impossible, and there is no evidence for it. The admixture is but small blips on the radar. Not enough for you to make definitive judgements on the phenotypes of Early Hebrews. You had referred to this in your earlier post as "genotype", but rather it is phenotype how genetic traits or characteristics express themselves, and [italic] appear [/italic]

The male lines (X chromosome) are all Middle -Eastern.... Only in certain incidences of false paternity (also rare) are non-typical haplogroups to be found.

If you travel, and spend time with Israelis, Syrians, or Christian Lebanese, you meet families who never left the region, and have not married out, and they often look very similar to phenotypes of Ashkenazi.

The "CMH" or Cohen-Modal-Haplotype is common in most Kohanim.... Priestly class.... to this day, they have an extremely high coincidence of red hair and freckles. My current rabbi is a freckled ginger as well. These are phenotypes which have had continuity throughout the ages. The Levite and Kohanim are two notable lines which have remained remarkably constant since the ancient era. You would need to have an understanding of these two within the temple, and the Jewish community to understand fully how this has come to pass, but one could almost consider the constrictions on these two statuses as caste like in their parameters.

by Anonymousreply 239July 18, 2020 6:18 PM

R237 I’m Ashkenazi and a Levite. My DNA shows Eastern European a acestry. I don’t recall anything about middle eastern.

by Anonymousreply 240July 18, 2020 6:25 PM

R240 I cannot speak for your family, what type ofvtest you had, or your genealogy. If you're from a line of Jews, and you canntrace your family back, the test should state AJ population, or Ashkenazi.

My mum's side are almost all German Jews, one possibly Hungarian Jewish, and my dad's side are from Poland, with one female being Lithuanian-Jewish. My test says nothing Eastern-European, or German, or Hungarian. My results are only AJ and Middle-East. I can trace my father's line to the 700s. There is one convert (female) in that time that was found. Some claim an ability to trace back and link to King David, or the "Davidic" line. The coupling of genealogy and DNA is most helpful. In my case, famous rabbis throughout time, and a few Cantors have made the tracing easy in many regards.

You can upload results to databases for clarification, and Ged-Match is a trusted resource for matching other databases, and JewishGen is specialised in Jewish genealogy.

Older tests apparently were not as specific according to what Inhave read. Best Wishes finding out, or discovering you have European ancestors. Perhaps someone had adopted, or there could have been a false paternity event in your male line. Your X chromosome is literally a copy of your father's DNA, and his father's etc.... There is no recombinant DNA on tbe X chromosome.

Some individuals report testing with six different firms, and receiving six different reports which do not match. Therein lies the advantage of Trees, and database searches and matches.

by Anonymousreply 241July 18, 2020 7:03 PM

R240 I'm sorry, I had meant to say your Y chromosome remains unchanged throughout time, as that is our male, sex chromosome. It is always much easier to follow the male line, and in Ashkenazim, it is more purely Jewish, as opposed to the female line.

by Anonymousreply 242July 18, 2020 7:15 PM

Lol, R219. Keep reachin’.

by Anonymousreply 243July 18, 2020 7:21 PM

R243 - I believe the poster means "Levite" in the sense of belonging to the Levy tribe (not a Levant). Levi ( לוי Lêwî).

There isn't a reason in the world that Jews named Levy-Levi wouldn't be found all over Eastern Europe - or Jews named Reuben, Asher, Benjamin, or Joseph, or Ephraim.

The poster isn't "reaching".

by Anonymousreply 244July 18, 2020 7:38 PM

R244 Thank you, but I believe R243 was directing to R219.... I did mean Tribe of Levi, yet throughout time, some people other than the original tribe were allowed the roles of Levites in the temple. I have to apologise for my memory not serving correct on those details, however I do plan to look it up.

Descendants of certain tribes, will and often have different surnames however, as all Kohanim who have the "Cohen" gene are not all named Cohen, or Kohen. Interestingly enough, some of the popular surnames of Levites who still have Levite status presently have surnames completely unrelated to Levy, and Levi... Popular ones are Katz, Katzenbaum, Horowitz, and others.
