I’m eager to see this, as I love Francois Ozon and I love French twinks.
I love Ozon. He's a fantastic filmmaker.

this looks awful

OK, nobody is wearing 85 fashions or hair in that pic. His pants would be above his navel and not rolled up. Her hair would be bug and her bikini would be french cut up to her waist (it’s a French movie for Chris sakes) and the kid would have flat or spiky hair.
Or is that picture from before the flashback???

R6, I graduated from high school in 1985. We did not wear pants above our navels then.

I loved "Summer of '42".

This is going to be another pathetic Millennial attempt to reproduce the 80s in which fashions and hairstyles are all horribly wrong. I don't understand what the problem is. It's not as if no one took photographs or made movies back then to refer to.
That pic does not look like the 80s to me. Although his pants might have been rolled up since he was at at the beach. But the print and cut of the bikini are all wrong and the hair doesn't evoke the 80s either.

I have to take back some of my post, as I viewed some images from this movie and the fashion does actually look pretty accurate. So maybe it won't be as bad as most of the other retro dreck we've been handed.

Francois Ozon is 52 and directed his first film in 1988.

I've been reading about this by critics who've been at the TIFF. Seems like it could be very good.

I saw it, it's very average. Blond dude isn't a good actor. It's only worth seeing if you like to watch two twinks kissing. And no, there's no full frontal.

I saw this the other day and I quite liked it, not his best but still good. I was surprised to learn that this was based on a book.
The 80s stylings (and setting) reminded me a lot of The Green Ray by Eric Rohmer, which came out in 1986.

The blond twink has a lovely butt.

Is it Philippe Besson?

Scathing review, it goes on about its death obsession, but doesn’t explain how long dead film reviewer Robert Ebert can possibly be reviewing it from the great beyond. I didn’t realize it’s based on Aidan Chambers’ YA heartbreaking novel Dance on My Grave, which makes me want to see it despite this review.

The girl was dreadful with her line readings. She was worse than Jane birkin in “the swimming pool”

At any rate, it's bound to be more accurate than your understanding of what a Millennial is.

Just saw it today. The trailer doesn’t do it justice. For the first 2/3 of the film it’s beautiful, sensual, and volatile film about first love. After that, it goes downhill. The two main actors are beautiful, and have chemistry, though the actor who plays David is far more skilled. I absolutely loved the scene on the dance floor, when they were sailing, and the motorcycle rides. Basically, when they were not talking, just acting with their bodies. The director is obviously in love with both of them. The fashion and soundtrack references to the 1980s did not descend into kitsch. I’m not into twinks r18, but the kissing turned me on.

Intellectually I know why, but I just don't understand why we cannot for once have a gay film where the protagonist are not in college or the summer before, but maybe mid 30-s questioning life and not because of an HIV diagnosis.
I'm going to make the next great American gay film!
